Abstract

We introduce VGGT-SLAM++, a complete visual SLAM system that leverages the geometry-rich outputs of the Visual Geometry Grounded Transformer (VGGT). The system comprises a visual odometry (front-end) fusing the VGGT feed-forward transformer and a Sim(3) solution, a Digital Elevation Map (DEM)-based graph construction module, and a back-end that jointly enable accurate large-scale mapping with bounded memory. While prior transformer-based SLAM pipelines such as VGGT-SLAM rely primarily on sparse loop closures or global Sim(3) manifold constraints - allowing short-horizon pose drift - VGGT-SLAM++ restores high-cadence local bundle adjustment (LBA) through a spatially corrective back-end. For each VGGT submap, we construct a dense planar-canonical DEM, partition it into patches, and compute their DINOv2 embeddings to integrate the submap into a covisibility graph. Spatial neighbors are retrieved using a Visual Place Recognition (VPR) module within the covisibility window, triggering frequent local optimization that stabilizes trajectories. Across standard SLAM benchmarks, VGGT-SLAM++ achieves state-of-the-art accuracy, substantially reducing short-term drift, accelerating graph convergence, and maintaining global consistency with compact DEM tiles and sublinear retrieval.

SLAMFormer-∞\infty: Infinite SLAM Transformer for Unbounded Frontend and Backend Processing

We introduce the Infinite SLAM Transformer (SLAMFormer-∞\infty), the first geometric transformer capable of supporting both long-range frontend and backend processing without an explicit distance bound. Instead of relying on a first-frame-anchored formulation, SLAMFormer-∞\infty employs memory conditions to define flexible coordinate systems and scales for input frames, enabling more expressive structural conditioning. Built upon this formulation, the frontend preserves efficient local computation, while the backend jointly optimizes long-range trajectories and scene geometry in a globally consistent manner. Experimental results demonstrate that SLAMFormer-∞\infty achieves superior or highly competitive performance in both trajectory estimation and scene reconstruction across large-scale datasets. Notably, SLAMFormer-∞\infty generalizes to extremely long trajectories, successfully operating on sequences exceeding 17km17\mathrm{km}.

MMD-SLAM: Structure-Enhanced Multi-Meta Gaussian Distribution-Guided Visual SLAM

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has significantly boosted novel view synthesis and high-fidelity scene reconstruction, expanding the potential of 3DGS-based Visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) methods. However, most existing systems fail to fully exploit the underlying structural information, which limits rendering quality and often leads to inconsistent maps. To address these limitations, we propose MMD-SLAM, a structure-enhanced Visual SLAM framework that leverages the Atlanta World (AW) assumption to guide a Multi-Meta Gaussian representation for photorealistic mapping. First, we introduce a point-line fusion strategy for pose optimization, where 3D line segments are incorporated to improve tracking robustness and provide additional constraints for mapping. Second, we design a Multi-Meta Gaussian representation with dominant directions, explicitly encoding structural priors from the AW hypothesis. Finally, we propose a Gaussian evolution strategy that adapts to scene geometry and incorporates structural cues into global optimization. Extensive experiments demonstrate that these innovations enable MMD-SLAM to achieve state-of-the-art performance in both tracking accuracy and mapping quality. e.g., our method achieves a 48.56% reduction in ATE RMSE on ScanNet and a 5.71% improvement in PSNR on Replica, compared with MonoGS.

Desc++: Efficient Descriptor Enhancement for Data Association in Existing Visual SLAM Systems

Reliable visual data association is fundamental to visual SLAM (V-SLAM), as it directly determines the quality of the camera pose estimation and map consistency. However, the handcrafted descriptors used by most mature real-time systems degrade under illumination and viewpoint changes, while learning-based front-ends that address this weakness typically require replacing the extraction-and-matching pipeline and introduce substantial computational overhead. Descriptor enhancement offers a compromise by refining existing descriptors within their original format, yet current methods rely on simplified attention mechanisms whose limited contextual modeling constrains the achievable matching quality. To resolve this trade-off between contextual expressiveness and efficiency, we propose Desc++, a lightweight enhancement module that jointly encodes descriptor representations and keypoint geometry and aggregates spatial context through a hybrid architecture that combines order-agnostic global attention with geometry-aware sequential modeling in linear time. The enhanced descriptors retain their original dimensionality and matching interface, enabling integration into deployed V-SLAM systems without modifying the pipeline. Experiments across descriptor matching, correspondence analysis, and system-level benchmarks with four different V-SLAM systems demonstrate that Desc++ improves matching accuracy over the state-of-the-art enhancement method, translates these gains into more accurate and stable trajectory estimation, and achieves a favorable balance between accuracy and efficiency for practical integration into existing real-time V-SLAM pipelines.
