Abstract

Industrial robotic manipulation demands reliable long-horizon execution across embodiments, tasks, and changing object distributions. While Vision-Language-Action models have demonstrated strong generalization, they remain fundamentally reactive. By optimizing the next action given the current observation without evaluating potential futures, they are brittle to the compounding failure modes of long-horizon tasks. Cortex 2.0 shifts from reactive control to plan-and-act by generating candidate future trajectories in visual latent space, scoring them for expected success and efficiency, then committing only to the highest-scoring candidate. We evaluate Cortex 2.0 on a single-arm and dual-arm manipulation platform across four tasks of increasing complexity: pick and place, item and trash sorting, screw sorting, and shoebox unpacking. Cortex 2.0 consistently outperforms state-of-the-art Vision-Language-Action baselines, achieving the best results across all tasks. The system remains reliable in unstructured environments characterized by heavy clutter, frequent occlusions, and contact-rich manipulation, where reactive policies fail. These results demonstrate that world-model-based planning can operate reliably in complex industrial environments.

Cortex: A Bidirectionally Aligned Embodied Agent Framework for Long-horizon Manipulation

While recent Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models show promise toward generalist manipulation policies, they struggle with long-horizon tasks due to their Markovian nature-relying solely on current observations. Hierarchical dual-system methods address this but suffer from a gap between high-level planning semantics and low-level execution kinematics. We introduce Cortex, a bidirectionally aligned embodied agent framework with a customized planning interface that conveys executable and tractable subtask plans from high-level VLM to low-level VLA. Specifically, we standardize manipulation subtasks into 32 canonical skill primitives and inject tractability principles, such as representative object attributes and improved trajectory reachability, into the data generation pipeline. This enables automatic annotation of over 4k hours of open-source video data and generation of 30 hours of simulation data. We further devise an event-balanced sampling strategy to construct training data for fine-tuning the framework to better handle planning ambiguity during subtask transitions, enhanced by carefully designed harness engineering from task contexts to skill constraints during inference. Both open-loop VLM and closed-loop system evaluations demonstrate Cortex's efficacy, e.g., it outperforms monolithic baselines by 3.1% on Libero-long and 4.1% on RoboTwin. Notably, Cortex's generalist VLM enables zero-shot completion of unseen real-world long-horizon tasks, such as multi-stage chemistry experiments, by simply combining with a fine-tuned VLA-a capability infeasible through VLA fine-tuning alone.

World Action Planner: Generalizable Decision-Making with Action-Conditioned World Models

Building generalizable agents for diverse applications remains a fundamental challenge. While imitation learning-based policies succeed in specific training environments, they often fail to generalize to novel scenes and tasks. In this work, we propose World Action Planner, a robot planning system that leverages the reasoning capabilities of Vision-Language Models (VLMs) and the physical grounding of a multi-task pose-image conditioned world model. Our system enables an agent to propose initial action plans and iteratively refine them via optimization and search, reasoning over imagined world model rollouts. We demonstrate that our approach achieves superior performance across compositional tasks, new layouts, and zero-shot generalization scenarios, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art end-to-end policy models such as VLAs and WAMs. Project website at worldactionplanner.github.io

STARRY: Spatial-Temporal Action-Centric World Modeling for Robotic Manipulation

Robotic manipulation requires reasoning about future spatial-temporal interactions and geometric constraints, yet existing Vision-Language-Action (VLA) policies often leave predictive representation weakly coupled with action execution, causing failures in tasks requiring precise spatial-temporal coordination. We propose STARRY, a world-model-enhanced action-generation policy that aligns spatial-temporal prediction and action generation by jointly denoising future spatial-temporal latents and actions through a unified diffusion process. To bridge 2D visual tokens and 3D metric control, STARRY introduces Geometry-Aware Selective Attention Modulation (GASAM), which converts predicted depth and end-effector geometry into token-aligned weights for selective action-attention modulation. On RoboTwin 2.0, STARRY achieves 93.82% / 93.30% average success under Clean and Randomized settings across 50 bimanual tasks. Real-world experiments show that STARRY improves average success from 42.5% to 70.8% compared with π0.5π_{0.5}. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of action-centric spatial-temporal world modeling for spatially and temporally demanding robotic manipulation.
