Abstract

Single-view 3D shape retrieval is a fundamental yet challenging task that is increasingly important with the growth of available 3D data. Existing approaches largely fall into two categories: those using contrastive learning to map point cloud features into existing vision-language spaces and those that learn a common embedding space for 2D images and 3D shapes. However, these feed-forward, holistic alignments are often difficult to interpret, which in turn limits their robustness and generalization to real-world applications. To address this problem, we propose Pose-Aware 3D Shape Retrieval (PASR), a framework that formulates retrieval as a feature-level analysis-by-synthesis problem by distilling knowledge from a 2D foundation model (DINOv3) into a 3D encoder. By aligning pose-conditioned 3D projections with 2D feature maps, our method bridges the gap between real-world images and synthetic meshes. During inference, PASR performs a test-time optimization via analysis-by-synthesis, jointly searching for the shape and pose that best reconstruct the patch-level feature map of the input image. This synthesis-based optimization is inherently robust to partial occlusion and sensitive to fine-grained geometric details. PASR substantially outperforms existing methods on both clean and occluded 3D shape retrieval datasets by a wide margin. Additionally, PASR demonstrates strong multi-task capabilities, achieving robust shape retrieval, competitive pose estimation, and accurate category classification within a single framework.

Axolotl3D: a Unified Framework for Faithful 3D Shape Completion

Recent 3D generative models produce high-quality geometry from a single image using large-scale priors and diffusion architectures. However, they assume complete visibility and single-view inputs, limiting applicability in multi-view, occluded, or editing scenarios. Although prior works address these challenges individually, they lack a unified framework for controllable 3D completion under diverse conditioning signals. We present Axolotl3D, a multi-modal and occlusion-aware 3D generation model that jointly conditions on images, visibility masks, camera parameters, and a partial point cloud. The point cloud serves as a geometric anchor promoting faithful shape completion, while camera parameters ensure consistent multi-view alignment in a shared 3D coordinate system. A unified training strategy synthesizes diverse conditioning regimes from large-scale 3D data, enabling robust cross-modal reasoning. Experiments on Toys4K and OmniObject3D demonstrate state-of-the-art performance under both clean and occluded settings, as well as strong results in real-world reconstruction and geometry-consistent editing.

Reconstruction by Generation: 3D Multi-Object Scene Reconstruction from Sparse Observations

Accurately reconstructing complex full multi-object scenes from sparse observations remains a core challenge in computer vision and a key step toward scalable and reliable simulation for robotics. In this work, we introduce RecGen, a generative framework for probabilistic joint estimation of object and part shapes, as well as their pose under occlusion and partial visibility from one or multiple RGB-D images. By leveraging compositional synthetic scene generation and strong 3D shape priors, RecGen generalizes across diverse object types and real-world environments. RecGen achieves state-of-the-art performance on complex, heavily occluded datasets, robustly handling severe occlusions, symmetric objects, object parts, and intricate geometry and texture. Despite using nearly 80% fewer training meshes than the previous state of the art SAM3D, RecGen outperforms it by 30.1% in geometric shape quality, 9.1% in texture reconstruction, and 33.9% in pose estimation.

OCH3R: Object-Centric Holistic 3D Reconstruction

Object-centric scene understanding is a fundamental challenge in computer vision. Existing approaches often rely on multi-stage pipelines that first apply pre-trained segmentors to extract individual objects, followed by per-object 3D reconstruction. Such methods are computationally expensive, fragile to segmentation errors, and scale poorly with scene complexity. We introduce OCH3R, a unified framework for Object-Centric Holistic 3D Reconstruction from a single RGB image. OCH3R performs one forward pass to simultaneously predict all object instances with their 6D poses and detailed 3D reconstructions. The key idea is a transformer architecture that predicts per-pixel attributes, including CLIP-based category embeddings, metric depth, normalized object coordinates (NOCS), and a fixed number of 3D Gaussians representing each object. To supervise these Gaussian reconstructions, we transform them into canonical space using the predicted 6D poses and align them with pre-rendered canonical ground truth, avoiding costly per-image Gaussian label generation. On standard indoor benchmarks, OCH3R achieves state-of-the-art performance across monocular depth estimation, open-vocabulary semantic segmentation, and RGB-only category-level 6D pose estimation, while producing high-fidelity, editable per-object reconstructions. Crucially, inference is fully feed-forward and scales independently of the number of objects, offering orders-of-magnitude speedups over conventional multi-stage pipelines in cluttered scenes.
