Abstract

While large vision-language models (VLMs) are increasingly adopted as the perceptual backbone for embodied agents, existing benchmarks often rely on question-answering or multiple-choice formats. These protocols allow models to exploit linguistic priors rather than demonstrating genuine visual grounding. To address this, we present EPIC-Bench, Embodied PerceptIon BenChmark, a fine-grained grounding benchmark designed to systematically evaluate the visual perceptual capabilities of VLMs in real-world embodied environments. Comprising 6.6k meticulously annotated tuples (Image, Text, Mask), EPIC-Bench spans 23 fine-grained tasks across three core stages of the embodied interaction pipeline: Target Localization, Navigation, and Manipulation. Extensive evaluations of over 89 leading VLMs reveal that while advanced reasoning models show promise, current VLMs universally struggle with complex visual-text alignment for physical interactions. Specifically, models exhibit critical bottlenecks in multi-target counting, part-whole relationship understanding, and affordance region detection. EPIC-Bench provides a robust foundation and actionable insights for advancing the next generation of vision-driven embodied models.

Embodied3DBench: Benchmarking Low-Level Embodied Spatial Intelligence of Vision Language Models

Are current Vision Language Models (VLMs) ready to comprehend and reason about complex embodied interactions in 3D environments? We introduce Embodied3DBench, a robot-centric benchmark targeting low-level spatial intelligence in embodied 3D environments. To systematically evaluate these foundational perceptual capabilities, the benchmark includes 6 task categories divided into two core groups: Spatial Structural Understanding (Grounding, Spatial Relation Prediction, and Multi-view Correspondence) and Interaction-Oriented Perception (Affordance Prediction, Grasp Point Prediction, and Trajectory Prediction). The benchmark spans 12 subcategories and contains over 21k high-quality question-answer pairs. We evaluate 13 state-of-the-art models, and the results show that while current models exhibit relatively strong high-level spatial reasoning, such as understanding object-to-object positional relations, they remain fragile in interaction-oriented perception, highlighting a significant lack of robust 3D-aware interaction priors. To actively bridge this capability gap revealed by our benchmark, we further synthesize a large-scale training dataset comprising 1.3M QA pairs. Notably, fine-tuning on this dataset yields significant improvements in low-level spatial intelligence. Ultimately, Embodied3DBench fills a critical gap by providing both a systematic evaluation framework and a scalable data solution, setting a clear target for the development of interaction-aware multimodal systems.

Towards Generalizable Visually Grounded Exploration of Household Devices

Recent advancements in Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities in static visual recognition and high-level semantic reasoning. However, current embodied exploration paradigms still heavily rely on imitation learning from human-annotated trajectories, which severely limits agents' generalization ability. The key bottleneck of realizing general autonomous embodied agents lies in Generalizable Visually Grounded Exploration: the ability to operate novel devices without manuals or specific training by actively grounding abstract world knowledge into fine-grained visual affordances. Yet, existing benchmarks fail to evaluate this capability: they generally rely on explicit documents and annotated trajectories, neglecting the dynamic Hypothesis-Interaction-Refinement process essential for functional device operation. To bridge this gap, we introduce VGEBench, a comprehensive benchmark designed to evaluate the generalizable visually grounded exploration capabilities of VLMs. Unlike static datasets, we construct a Logic-Driven State Machine framework. This framework simulates multi-turn interaction loops, compelling agents to achieve goals by active visual perception and feedback-driven correction. Experimental results demonstrate that existing VLMs face significant challenges in translating semantic knowledge into physical execution and maintaining long-horizon state tracking.

EmbodimentSemantic: A Spatial Scene-Graph Dataset and Benchmark for Vision-Language Models on Embodied Manipulation Trajectories

Spatial grounding remains a key limitation of vision-language-action (VLA) systems for robotic manipulation. While current models can recognize objects and follow language instructions, they often lack an explicit representation of how objects are arranged in space, including support, containment, ordering, occlusion, and depth-sensitive relations. We introduce EmbodimentSemantic, a spatial scene-graph dataset and benchmark for evaluating relational grounding in embodied manipulation. EmbodimentSemantic represents scenes as directed object-relation-object triplets, where each triplet specifies a spatial relation between an ordered pair of objects using a fixed set of relations. This representation enables direct evaluation of object binding, relation prediction, and spatial consistency. The dataset includes real-world manipulation observations collected with the low-cost SO101 robot arm, together with generated scene graphs for studying spatial grounding in practical robotic settings. To provide controlled validation, we also introduce a simulator-grounded LIBERO benchmark with over 60K manipulation frames and more than 120K camera-specific scene graphs across paired third-person and wrist views, where ground-truth relations are derived automatically from MuJoCo geometry, world coordinates, camera projections, and visibility constraints. We further test whether scene graphs improve downstream control by injecting them into existing VLA policy prompts. Experiments across open-source and commercial VLMs show that current models often predict plausible relations but struggle with exact depth-aware and viewpoint-dependent spatial structure. EmbodimentSemantic provides a unified framework for diagnosing spatial grounding in VLM perception and testing its utility for VLA manipulation.
