WHU-Infra3D: A Full-stack Multi-modal Dataset and Benchmark for 3D Roadside Infrastructure Inventory

Authors: Chong LiuLuxuan FuXuyu FengZhen DongBisheng Yang

Abstract

The paradigm of digital twin cities is shifting from coarse visual mapping toward more precise and actionable digitization of urban assets. However, existing datasets predominantly focus on coarse visual perception, lacking the strict multi-modal alignment and attribute and status diagnosis required for automated infrastructure maintenance. To bridge this gap, we introduce WHU-Infra3D, a large-scale, multi-modal benchmark dataset dedicated to roadside infrastructure inventory. Covering 53.8 km across three cities, WHU-Infra3D uniquely integrates panoramic imagery and LiDAR point clouds with rigorous 2D-3D instance association and cross-frame tracking. Comprising over 175k multi-view 2D bounding boxes alongside thousands of 3D infrastructure instances, the dataset provides over 181k detailed attribute and status annotations (e.g., rust, occlusion) to empower operational health assessment. We establish comprehensive baselines across five core tasks: 2D detection, 2D cross-view matching, 3D geo-identification, 3D point cloud segmentation, and attribute recognition. Extensive evaluations expose significant cross-city domain gaps and inherent vulnerabilities of current models on long-tailed defective statuses, establishing WHU-Infra3D as an essential testbed for advancing scalable, AI-driven urban infrastructure inventory and lifecycle management. UnderOneFacade: Worldwide Facade Semantic Segmentation Benchmark Dataset

Globally consistent semantic digital twins require centimeter-accurate and geographically transferable 3D facade segmentation. However, progress in facade parsing is limited by the lack of large-scale, standardized benchmarks for evaluating cross-domain generalization. Existing datasets are geographically narrow, semantically inconsistent, or insufficiently precise. We introduce UnderOneFacade, the largest cross-country and cross-continent 3D facade benchmark to date, comprising centimeter-accurate point clouds with hierarchical, harmonized, and architecturally grounded semantic labels totaling 2.7 billion annotated points. Through a systematic evaluation of representative point-, graph- and transformer-based architectures, we show that current methods struggle to recognize fine-grained architectural elements and degrade significantly across geographic domains, with the best models achieving only up to 33 IoU on the fine-grained LoFG3 benchmark. By combining geometric precision with standardized semantics at unprecedented scale, UnderOneFacade establishes a rigorous benchmark for developing robust and transferable 3D segmentation models. The dataset, evaluation scripts, and pretrained models will be released upon publication.

CARD: A Multi-Modal Automotive Dataset for Dense 3D Reconstruction in Challenging Road Topography

Autonomous driving must operate across diverse surfaces to enable safe mobility. However, most driving datasets are captured on well-paved flat roads. Moreover, recent driving datasets primarily provide sparse LiDAR ground truth for images, which is insufficient for assessing fine-grained geometry in depth estimation and completion. To address these gaps, we introduce CARD, a multi-modal driving dataset that delivers quasi-dense 3D ground truth across continuous sequences rich in speed bumps, potholes, irregular surfaces and off-road segments. Our sensor suite includes synchronized global-shutter stereo cameras, front and rear LiDARs, 6-DoF poses from LiDAR-inertial odometry, per-wheel motion traces, and full calibration. Notably, our multi-LiDAR fusion yields ~500K valid depth pixels per frame, about 6.5x more than KITTI Depth Completion and 10x more on average than other public driving datasets. The dataset spans ~110 km and 4.7 hours across Germany and Italy. In addition, CARD provides 2D bounding boxes targeting road-topography irregularities, enabling accurate benchmarking for both geometry and perception tasks. Furthermore, we establish a standardized evaluation protocol for road surface irregularities on CARD and benchmark state-of-the-art depth estimation models to provide strong baselines. The CARD dataset is hosted on https://huggingface.co/CARD-Data.

Rethinking Infrastructure Inspection as Image Difference Classification: A Traffic Sign Case Study

Digital twins (DTs) allow the digitalization of road infrastructure inspection, though this is hindered by limited annotated data. This work exploits the relational nature of continuous asset condition monitoring to reformulate image-based defect detection as image difference classification (IDC) to reduce data reliance. This was evaluated in a case study on low-resource traffic sign inspection with different IDC classifiers using a newly-curated, high quality dataset. Results indicate that the instruction-based classifier outperforms encoder-based ones and gains from comparison with reference images. This shows that IDC can be an effective task modeling for tackling data constraints in infrastructure inspection and DT asset condition updating.
