Abstract

End-to-end vision-language navigation (VLN) with causal vision-language models maps instructions and egocentric observations directly to actions, but standard behavior cloning supervises only the next action and does not explicitly encourage the policy state to be predictive of future visual outcomes, limiting long-horizon decision making. A privileged-input diagnostic shows that access to an expert-trajectory future image can substantially improve navigation, indicating that future observations contain rich, actionable cues, though such inputs are unavailable at deployment. Motivated by this signal, we propose Future-State-Conditioned VLN (FSC-VLN), a deployable model that augments a causal policy with a future-query token and uses training-only future-state supervision to distill information from future observations into the policy state. Concretely, during training we align the future-query representation to a frozen visual embedding ΔΔ steps ahead, while inference requires only past and current observations. This design preserves the baseline inference pattern and adds only two learned prefix tokens, implying minimal overhead. On R2R val-unseen, FSC-VLN improves SR/OSR/SPL over a StreamVLN-style baseline under two training-data regimes, with larger gains on long-horizon episodes; ablations further support the dual-query design that separates future and action queries.

FutureNav: Unified World-Action Modeling for Vision-and-Language Navigation

Vision-and-language navigation (VLN) in continuous environments requires an agent to ground instructions in egocentric observations while maintaining spatial understanding across long action sequences. Recent navigation foundation models have shown strong progress by scaling vision-language models, but they often learn navigation primarily as direct action generation, without explicitly modeling world states or predicting their future evolution. We introduce FutureNav, a VLM-based unified world-action modeling framework for vision-and-language navigation. Specifically, FutureNav jointly encodes text, visual, and spatial features and feeds them into the LLM, and optimizes four objectives for simultaneous world and action modeling: an action policy objective for navigation action prediction, inverse and forward dynamics objectives for modeling state transitions, and a future generation objective for predicting future spatial states. This unified architecture strengthens action prediction while explicitly modeling the world, without sacrificing inference speed. Extensive experiments show that, with only a 4B-scale backbone, FutureNav achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple VLN benchmarks and substantially outperforms prior VLN methods, paving the way toward future world-action models for VLN. We will release the code and models to support future research.

AwareVLN: Reasoning with Self-awareness for Vision-Language Navigation

Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) requires an agent to ground language instructions to its own movement within a visual environment. While state-of-the-art methods leverage the reasoning capabilities of Vision-Language Models (VLMs) for end-to-end action prediction, they often lack an explicit and explainable understanding of the relationships between the agent, the instruction, and the scene. Conversely, explicitly building a scene map for heuristic planning is intuitively appealing but relies on additional 3D sensors and hinders large-scale vision-language pre-training. To bridge this gap, we propose AwareVLN, a novel framework that equips the navigation model with a self-aware reasoning mechanism, enabling it to understand the agent's state and task progress in a fully end-to-end and data-driven manner. Our approach features two key innovations: (1) a structural reasoning module that fosters spatial and task-oriented self-awareness, and (2) an automatic data engine with progress division for effective training. Extensive experiments on various datasets in Habitat simulator show our AwareVLN significantly outperforms previous state-of-the-art vision-language navigation methods. FoMoVLA: Bridging Visual Foresight and Motion Guidance for Vision-Language-Action Models

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have achieved impressive results in visuomotor policy learning, yet remain fundamentally reactive, mapping current observations and language to actions without explicit forward prediction of world dynamics. Existing visual foresight methods predict future visual states but lack explicit motion guidance: they show where to go but not how to get there. We argue that future feature prediction and sparse point tracking are naturally complementary: the former provides the goal state, while the latter captures the continuous motion path toward it. We propose FoMoVLA, a framework that augments VLA representations with explicit spatio-temporal supervision by jointly learning future feature foresight and sparse 2D point tracking, enhancing the continuous action policy. FoMoVLA introduces compact foresight tokens to decode future feature states, decodes sparse temporal 2D point trajectories to model compact geometric motion, and couples both through a lightweight future-conditioned cross-attention module that enables consistent reasoning between anticipated states and point dynamics. Extensive experiments on LIBERO, RoboCasa GR-1 Tabletop, and LIBERO-Plus demonstrate state-of-the-art performance and strong zero-shot generalization.
