Abstract

Multi-object tracking (MOT) involves maintaining consistent target identities as objects dynamically enter and leave a scene. Deterministic approaches, such as tracking-by-detection with data association, produce reproducible results and are computationally efficient, but they rely heavily on motion models and are sensitive to noisy detections that can lead to association errors. In contrast, stochastic methods explicitly model uncertainty and can better handle complex non-linear dynamics, albeit at the cost of increased computational complexity and variability arising from random sampling. This paper presents an online MOT framework that integrates deterministic and stochastic principles to achieve robust tracking under uncertainty. Furthermore, a novel track-to-detection matching approach is introduced to enhance scalability with increasing target numbers while supporting group tracking. The tracking inference mechanism employs a tracklet that includes identifiers, states, velocities, track penalties and track ages of targets, supporting a systematic tracking pipeline. Each target is associated with a stochastic particle set to compute the matching cost to detections. SAMOFT: Robust Multi-Object Tracking via Region and Flow

Multi-object tracking (MOT) is a fundamental task in computer vision that requires continuously tracking multiple targets while maintaining consistent identities across frames. However, most existing approaches primarily rely on instance-level object features for trajectory association, which often leads to degraded performance under challenging conditions such as object deformation, nonlinear motion, and occlusion. In this work, we propose SAMOFT, a robust tracker that leverages pixel-level cues to improve robustness under complex motion scenarios. Specifically, we introduce a Pixel Motion Matching (PMM) module that integrates the Segment Anything Model (SAM) with dense optical flow to refine Kalman filter-based motion prediction using instantaneous foreground pixel motion. To further enhance robustness under unreliable detections, we design a Centroid Distance Matching (CDM) module that performs flexible mask-based centroid matching for low-confidence or partially occluded observations. Moreover, a Distribution-Based Correction (DBC) module models long-tailed motion patterns in a training-free manner using historical optical flow statistics and dynamically corrects trajectory states online. We also incorporate a Cluster-Aware ReID (CA-ReID) strategy to improve the stability and discriminative power of trajectory appearance features. Extensive experiments on the DanceTrack and MOTChallenge benchmarks demonstrate that SAMOFT consistently improves baseline trackers and achieves competitive performance compared with recent state-of-the-art methods, validating the effectiveness of leveraging pixel-level cues for robust multi-object tracking.

COVTrack++: Learning Open-Vocabulary Multi-Object Tracking from Continuous Videos via a Synergistic Paradigm

Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) has traditionally focused on a few specific categories, restricting its applicability to real-world scenarios involving diverse objects. Open-Vocabulary Multi-Object Tracking (OVMOT) addresses this by enabling tracking of arbitrary categories, including novel objects unseen during training. However, current progress is constrained by two challenges: the lack of continuously annotated video data for training, and the lack of a customized OVMOT framework to synergistically handle detection and association. We address the data bottleneck by constructing C-TAO, the first continuously annotated training set for OVMOT, which increases annotation density by 26x over the original TAO and captures smooth motion dynamics and intermediate object states. For the framework bottleneck, we propose COVTrack++, a synergistic framework that achieves a bidirectional reciprocal mechanism between detection and association through three modules: (1) Multi-Cue Adaptive Fusion (MCF) dynamically balances appearance, motion, and semantic cues for association feature learning; (2) Multi-Granularity Hierarchical Aggregation (MGA) exploits hierarchical spatial relationships in dense detections, where visible child nodes (e.g., object parts) assist occluded parent objects (e.g., whole body) for association feature enhancement; (3) Temporal Confidence Propagation (TCP) recovers flickering detections through high-confidence tracked objects boosting low-confidence candidates across frames, stabilizing trajectories. Extensive experiments on TAO demonstrate state-of-the-art performance, with novel TETA reaching 35.4% and 30.5% on validation and test sets, improving novel AssocA by 4.8% and novel LocA by 5.8% over previous methods, and show strong zero-shot generalization on BDD100K.

Seg2Track++: Probabilistic Track Validation and Data Association for Multi-Object Tracking and Segmentation

Autonomous systems require robust Multi-Object Tracking and Segmentation (MOTS) to operate reliably in dynamic environments, ensuring consistent object identities and precise mask-level delineation. Foundation models such as SAM2 have shown strong zero-shot generalization for segmentation, but their direct application to MOTS is limited by unreliable track association and false-positive propagation. This work introduces Seg2Track++, a framework that integrates instance segmentation with SAM2 and a novel track management module to perform zero-shot MOTS with enhanced temporal consistency. Tracks are associated using Mask Centroid Distance (MCD) and Confidence-Aware Cost Modulation (CCM), while Probabilistic Track Validation (PTV) employs a Bernoulli filter to validate track existence and suppress ghost tracks. Experimental results on KITTI MOTS demonstrate improved identity preservation, reduced false-positive propagation, and robust track management without fine-tuning.
