Abstract

Situated 3D Question Answering requires models to interpret a 3D scene relative to an agent's pose. Existing methods commonly convey that pose through a natural-language situation description, which may be unavailable or costly to obtain in real-world deployments. While some methods additionally incorporate numerical pose, we find that randomly shuffling the agent pose causes little performance degradation, indicating limited functional dependence on the numerical pose. To address this gap, we introduce EgoAlign, a simple 3D language model that represents a scene in an agent-centric coordinate frame, together with a dedicated egocentric alignment stage comprising four complementary tasks: object category recognition, egocentric direction prediction, metric distance estimation, and spatial relation prediction. This stage teaches the model to consistently interpret scene geometry relative to the agent's pose before task-specific fine-tuning. EgoAlign achieves the strongest performance on SQA3D, Real-3DQA, and MSQA among compared methods while remaining highly efficient. More importantly, removing textual situation descriptions yields comparable or better downstream performance, whereas shuffling EgoAlign's numerical pose causes substantial degradation. These results show that EgoAlign establishes agent-centric spatial context directly from numerical pose without requiring textual situation descriptions.

Skill-3D: Evolving Scene-Aware Skills for Agentic 3D Spatial Reasoning

This paper explores agentic 3D spatial understanding, i.e., MLLM agents performing 3D reasoning through tool use. Existing methods often misuse tools and exhibit biased tool preferences under 3D scenarios, leaving the agentic paradigm with only marginal gains over non-agentic strategies. We reveal that 3D spatial reasoning tasks are heterogeneous across scenes, while these agents apply a uniform tool-use strategy to all scenes rather than selecting tools according to the specific scene and task. To address this, we propose Skill-3D, a framework that learns self-evolving scene-aware skills. Specifically, Skill-3D identifies the task scene and records the agent's tool-use trajectory into a Scene Memory, where successful trajectories from similar scenes are aggregated and distilled into a reusable scene-aware skill, with failed ones attached to the skill as lessons. During training, once a similar scene recurs, the corresponding skill is injected to guide the agent, producing new trajectories whose successes and failures further refine the skill, forming a loop in which the memory and the skill library co-evolve. Experiments show that Skill-3D substantially improves tool utilization in 3D spatial reasoning (from 39% to 78% on VSI-Bench), driving the agent toward correct and sufficient tool use. For instance, it improves Gemini-3-Flash by 67% on MMSI-Bench. Furthermore, we conduct agentic post-training over skill-guided trajectories, which boosts Qwen3-VL-8B by 60% on VSI-Bench.

ViewMind3D: Modular View-Aware Inference for Training-Free 3D-QA

Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) and vision-language models (VLMs) have enabled new possibilities for 3D question answering (3D-QA), a key capability for embodied AI and robotic perception. However, most existing methods rely on 3D-specific training or fine-tuning with costly annotations, limiting their scalability and real-world applicability. We present ViewMind3D, a fully training-free and modular framework for 3D spatial reasoning over multi-view observations of a scene without requiring complete 3D reconstruction. The framework decomposes the 3D-QA task into four interpretable components: (1) question-driven multi-view selection, (2) guided visual grounding with language-conditioned object cues, (3) spatial context encoding via a bird's-eye-view (BEV) viewpoint indicator, and (4) structured answer generation through role-based reasoning. This design enables structured, robust, and interpretable reasoning without requiring model tuning. Experimental results on ScanQA and SQA3D show that ViewMind3D achieves competitive performance compared to prior training-free and fine-tuned 3D-LLMs. In particular, our method improves performance on spatially grounded question types, such as ``What'' questions in SQA3D, while maintaining strong overall accuracy (50.8%) and achieving 73.4 CIDEr on ScanQA. These results demonstrate that effective 3D reasoning can be achieved through modular orchestration of general-purpose LLMs and VLMs for robotic perception in real-world environments.

R3D: Quantitative 3D Spatial Reasoning for Egocentric Wearables

Quantitative 3D spatial reasoning from egocentric RGB-D video is a critical capability for next-generation wearable assistants. Yet existing benchmarks do not reflect the challenges of handling (1) natural egocentric video, (2) posed RGB-D video inputs, and (3) challenging quantitative 3D spatial reasoning Q&A. To fill this gap, we introduce R3D-Bench (Reasoning in 3D), a benchmark of 3,033 quantitative spatial reasoning questions across 15 types -- spanning multiple-choice, distance-based, and volumetric reasoning questions -- built on top of 57 egocentric video sequences from Aria Digital Twin. To set a strong baseline on this dataset, we introduce R3D, a model-agnostic spatial tool-calling framework. In contrast to existing approaches that directly embed 3D information into the model's input representation, R3D constructs a 3D scene from video using segmentation and depth-lifted object representations. It provides this information to an LLM through eight composable spatial tools. On R3D-Bench, R3D with Qwen3-VL 235B achieves 73.5% mean relative accuracy, substantially outperforming the best depth-enabled baseline (CuTR+Tools, 61.9%) and the best RGB-only baseline (Gemini 3 Flash, 46.5%).
