Abstract

Point-cloud streams are central to autonomous driving and robotics, yet existing segmentation networks process every frame from scratch, although consecutive frames largely overlap. We observe that the intermediate features of point-cloud transformers remain semantically consistent across frames for the same spatial region, especially in deep stages. Building on this, we present SpaceCache, a training-free feature cache that reuses these features across frames. Tokens of previously observed regions skip a sequence of transformer blocks and take their cached features, only the remaining tokens are computed, and the full token layout is restored for dense prediction. Lightweight cache management keeps reused features reliable by limiting each entry's age and evicting low-confidence entries. Unlike token merging, SpaceCache selects tokens at negligible cost and runs its cache operations once per encoder stage. On both outdoor and indoor benchmarks, such as nuScenes, Waymo, and ScanNet, with two transformer backbones of Utonia and LitePT-B, SpaceCache achieves up to 1.65x speedup with less than 1-point mIoU drop and consistently outperforms token-merging methods.

VaViT: Vanilla ViT for Automotive Point Cloud Semantic Segmentation

Plain Transformers have become the de-facto architecture for processing text, audio, image, and video, offering a unified backbone for multimodal learning. However, state-of-the-art architectures for point cloud semantic segmentation remain dominated by U-Nets architectures where convolutions are interleaved with local or windowed attentions. In this work, we show how to effectively leverage vanilla, non-hierarchical ViTs for the segmentation of large-scale automotive lidar scenes. We bridge the performance gap thanks to a carefully designed tokenizer, a lightweight decoder segmentation head, and tailored data augmentations. Our approach, VaViT, for Vanilla ViT, matches or exceeds the performance of state-of-the-art methods while maintaining the simplicity of ViT architecture. We provide extensive evaluations on nuScenes, SemanticKITTI, and Waymo Open Dataset to validate the efficiency of our method. Code and pre-trained models are available at https://github.com/valeoai/VaViT.

StreamCacheVGGT: Streaming Visual Geometry Transformers with Robust Scoring and Hybrid Cache Compression

Reconstructing dense 3D geometry from continuous video streams requires stable inference under a constant memory budget. Existing O(1)O(1) frameworks primarily rely on a ``pure eviction'' paradigm, which suffers from significant information destruction due to binary token deletion and evaluation noise from localized, single-layer scoring. To address these bottlenecks, we propose StreamCacheVGGT, a training-free framework that reimagines cache management through two synergistic modules: Cross-Layer Consistency-Enhanced Scoring (CLCES) and Hybrid Cache Compression (HCC). CLCES mitigates activation noise by tracking token importance trajectories across the Transformer hierarchy, employing order-statistical analysis to identify sustained geometric salience. Leveraging these robust scores, HCC transcends simple eviction by introducing a three-tier triage strategy that merges moderately important tokens into retained anchors via nearest-neighbor assignment on the key-vector manifold. This approach preserves essential geometric context that would otherwise be lost. Extensive evaluations on five benchmarks (7-Scenes, NRGBD, ETH3D, Bonn, and KITTI) demonstrate that StreamCacheVGGT sets a new state-of-the-art, delivering superior reconstruction accuracy and long-term stability while strictly adhering to constant-cost constraints.

SCMerge: Spatial-Consistency-Aware Token Pair Merging for Efficient Semantic Segmentation

Vision Transformer architectures have showcased impressive performance on semantic segmentation, yet their quadratic attention complexity hinders practical applications. Recent works have focused on merging tokens to reduce sequence length and thus improve transformer efficiency. However, existing token merging methods primarily rely on feature similarity to identify similar tokens, overlooking spatial consistency, which may introduce segmentation errors in semantic segmentation. In this work, we propose SCMerge, a training-free token merging method that jointly considers feature similarity and spatial consistency in pairing similar tokens. The pairwise tokens are then merged within the encoder, and the resulting token sequences are reconstructed onto the original patch grid after decoding. The proposed method is flexible and can be plugged into existing vision Transformer-based semantic segmentation pipelines. Extensive experiments on the benchmark datasets ADE20K, Pascal Context, and Cityscapes show that SCMerge consistently achieves a better trade-off between segmentation accuracy and efficiency than baseline methods.
