Abstract

Mobile manipulators must adapt not only to objects, but also to the spatial context in which they appear: where to position the base, how to manipulate, and where to look while navigating surrounding scene geometry. To address this, we present COWBOY, a scalable sim-to-real framework for learning such contextual whole-body manipulation. On whole-body dexterous grasping, COWBOY transfers zero-shot to hundreds of objects and diverse in-the-wild scenes, spanning cluttered tabletops, shelves, drawers, and other unstructured settings. Rather than learning scene adaptation directly with RL in simulation, a vectorized environment-aware whole-body controller (WBC) handles reaching in thousands of scenes by coordinating base-arm motion, collision avoidance, and active vision. Then, local RL experts are trained in local scenes for object interaction and can be reused across thousands of full-scene layouts. We distill these composed WBC-RL teachers into a single vision policy that controls the mobile base, arm, dexterous hand, and actuated camera from point-cloud observations. The resulting policy exhibits contextual whole-body behavior, automatically adapting base placement, camera viewpoint, arm trajectory, and grasp strategy to observed scene and object geometry. Whole-Body Dexterity

Current humanoid dexterous manipulation remains largely confined to end-effectors and simple grasps, falling short of humans' ability to engage the entire body by bracing and sliding bulky objects against the arms and torso. We introduce Whole-Body Dexterity (WBD), a general framework that uses the robot's body and appendages as contact surfaces to grasp and manipulate objects. Our sim-to-real pipeline first generates a dataset of feasible whole-body grasps, then trains reinforcement-learning experts on a general any-to-any repositioning objective by sampling initial and goal grasps from the dataset, and distills these experts into a single policy that uses proprioception and object geometry. We show that the distilled policy transfers zero-shot to a real Unitree G1, where it repositions a basketball and a cardboard box to regions around the torso and completes a long-horizon task that stows a box under one arm, carries it from a shelf to a table, and places it. The controller operates interactively, steered by coarse motion references from a human teleoperator. Across real-world whole-body manipulation tasks, the distilled controller completes 90% of trials, compared with 18% for direct retargeting and 4% for a generalist whole-body controller.

FastGrasp: Learning-based Whole-Body Control Method for Fast Dexterous Grasping with Mobile Manipulators

Fast dexterous grasping while a mobile base remains in motion requires coordinated whole-body control and rapid adaptation to physical contact. We propose FastGrasp, a two-stage learning framework that integrates grasp guidance, whole-body control, and tactile feedback. First, a pretrained conditional variational autoencoder generates diverse grasp candidates from object point clouds. Candidates are filtered by approach direction and supporting-surface constraints, then ranked using an envelopment-based criterion combining grasp width and depth coverage measures. Second, a reinforcement learning policy jointly controls the mobile base, arm, and dexterous hand, using the selected grasp as guidance and tactile observations for online grasp adjustment. The policy is trained with domain randomization and deployed with command filtering and tactile-triggered grasp tightening. Simulation experiments show higher grasp success rates than the evaluated baselines under full and partial point-cloud observations, while real-world experiments demonstrate sim-to-real transfer across diverse object geometries.

Co2{}^{2}Skill: Whole-Body Control via Skill Composition for Long-Horizon Human-Environment Interaction

Achieving human-level dexterity in complex, unstructured environments requires the seamless integration of whole-body scene interaction and dexterous object manipulation skills. While existing physics-based controllers generate physically plausible behaviors in each domain, they largely address these two capabilities independently. In this paper, we present Co2{}^{2}Skill that integrates scene interaction and dexterous manipulation through a unified policy formulation. Built on a pretrained motion prior, the policy uses task and phase dependent observation masks to select information relevant to the current interaction goals. We introduce a goal-conditioned loco-manipulation curriculum that combines partial reference guidance for precision with exploration from varied initial states while allowing goal-directed execution beyond the demonstrated trajectories. We further introduce a cross-task curriculum that jointly trains individual skills and selected task sequences, preserving physical states across task boundaries and maintaining grasps during subsequent scene interactions. Together, these support sequential task execution and simultaneous scene interaction with object manipulation. We evaluate sitting, standing, climbing, stair traversal, and goal-directed manipulation, together with sequential execution and with random different conditions. Additionally, we demonstrate skill compositions in indoor environments, illustrating their integration within the same control formulation.
