Abstract

Characterizing Multi-Energy X-ray Transmission (XRT) hyperspectral images presents significant challenges for traditional classification frameworks due to high-dimensional redundancy and non-linear spectral overlaps. Although manifold learning techniques such as UMAP enhance spectral representation by preserving non-linear correlations, they do not explicitly utilize the geometric structure of the embedded manifold for segmentation. This study introduces a hybrid architecture that integrates topological features derived from persistent homology with convolutional and graph neural networks. The approach computes Vietoris-Rips persistent homology on UMAP-projected superpixel point clouds to capture H 1 cyclic structures that encode spectral heterogeneity. These topological descriptors are combined with pixel-level CNN features through a broadcasting mechanism that propagates superpixel-level graph representations to full spatial resolution. Experimental results on XRT multi-energy imagery demonstrate that the proposed hybrid model significantly outperforms both CNN-only and superpixel-pooling fusion baselines, suggesting that topological features provide complementary discriminative information to local spectralspatial descriptors.

MSCM-net: A hyperspectral image classiffcation method based on multi-scale convolution and Mamba

Hyperspectral imaging is widely used in remote sensing and engineering. Therefore, research on its classification methods is crucial. While CNN and Transformer-based methods have advanced, they still face locality constraints and high computational complexity. To address these issues, we propose an innovative hyperspectral image classification model, MSCM-net. Specifically, first of all, a model architecture combining multi-scale CNN and Mamba is proposed. It consists of a multi-scale feature extraction module (MCSE) and multiple stacked Mamba blocks, which integrates the local feature extraction capability of multi-scale CNN and the long sequence modeling advantage of Mamba. Secondly, the proposed MCSE module consists of multi-scale convolution and SENet. Convolution kernels of different scales extract local information with different receptive fields, enhancing the fusion of spatial and spectral information. Meanwhile, the SENet enables the model to automatically learn the importance of each channel in the multi-scale features. Furthermore, we also propose a dual-branch feature aggregation module, which further effectively extracts and integrates the spectral information contained in the central pixel and the spatial information in the surrounding pixels. Our model has undergone numerous experiments on three widely used benchmark datasets. The experimental results show that MSCM-net can achieve advanced classification performance while reducing computational complexity.

A Synergistic CNN-Transformer Network with Pooling Attention Fusion for Hyperspectral Image Classification

In the hyperspectral image (HSI) classification task, each pixel is categorized into a specific land-cover category or material. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and transformers have been widely used to extract local and non-local features in HSI classification. Recent works have utilized a multi-scale vision transformer (ViT) to enhance spectral feature capture and yield promising results. However, most existing methods still face challenges in the effective joint use of spatial-spectral information and in preserving information across layers during the propagation process. To address these issues, we propose a synergistic CNN-Transformer network with pooling attention fusion for HSI classification, which collaboratively utilizes CNNs and ViT to process spatial and spectral features separately. Specifically, we propose a Twin-Branch Feature Extraction (TBFE) module, which employs 3D and 2D convolution in parallel to comprehensively extract spectral and spatial features from HSI. A hybrid pooling attention (HPA) module is designed to aggregate spatial attention. Moreover, a cascade transformer encoder is employed for global spectral feature extraction, and a simple yet efficient cross-layer feature fusion (CFF) module is designed to reduce the loss of crucial information in the previous network layers. Extensive experiments are conducted on several representative datasets to demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed method compared to the state-of-the-art works. Token Clustering and Semantic Sequence Mamba for Hyperspectral Image Classification

Although hyperspectral images (HSIs) provide rich spectral-spatial information, accurate pixel-level classification remains challenging because of spectral-spatial heterogeneity and complex spatial structures. Existing vision state space models (Mamba) typically construct sequences according to predefined spatial neighborhoods, without explicitly accounting for semantic similarity or spatial non-stationarity. To address this limitation, we propose Token Clustering and Semantic Sequence Mamba (STMamba), which organizes sparse tokens into semantically coherent sequences for hyperspectral image classification with the following features. First, at the macro level, a hierarchical encoder decoder progressively selects semantic tokens with the Token Clustering Module (TCM) and restores dense features using a parameter-free Cross-scale Neighborhood Attention (CNA) Upsampler. Second, at the micro level, TCM first identifies representative cluster centers through density-aware clustering and estimates soft memberships based on feature similarity. A quadtree-based dynamic selection strategy then retains sparse and spatially distributed tokens from each semantic cluster, forming coherent semantic-token sequences while reducing redundant pixel-wise representations. Third, parallel Spatial and Spectral Semantic-wise Sequencing Mamba (SWSM) modules capture complementary long-range spatial and spectral dependencies within homogeneous semantic token sequences while suppressing irrelevant interactions across heterogeneous regions. Experimental results on three large-scale benchmark datasets demonstrate that STMamba outperforms the SOTA methods with respect to quantitative and qualitative results.
