Etruscan Mirror
Etruscan mirrors, characterized by intricate engravings on their backs, are the subject of ongoing research focused on automating their analysis and documentation. Current efforts leverage deep learning models, particularly segmentation networks and neural radiance fields (NeRFs), to digitally reconstruct the mirror images, often incorporating techniques like photometric stereo and novel view synthesis algorithms to overcome challenges posed by damage and reflection. This research streamlines the laborious process of manually tracing the engravings, improving both the speed and objectivity of analysis, and has broader implications for the study of other historical artifacts and complex imagery.
