Facial Deformation

Facial deformation research focuses on accurately modeling and manipulating facial expressions and movements in 3D, primarily for applications in realistic avatar creation and animation. Current efforts leverage neural radiance fields (NeRFs) and other implicit representations, often incorporating techniques like dynamic meshes and physics-based models to improve realism and control over facial features, including subtle expressions and interactions with other objects like hands. These advancements are driving progress in fields such as virtual and augmented reality, digital human modeling, and visually-assisted speech processing, where accurate facial animation enhances user experience and improves the performance of assistive technologies.
