Psycholinguistic Research

Psycholinguistics investigates the cognitive processes underlying language comprehension and production, aiming to understand how humans process language at various levels, from sounds and words to sentences and discourse. Current research heavily utilizes large language models (LLMs), such as transformers, to model human language processing, focusing on areas like surprisal prediction of reading times, the neural correlates of language comprehension, and the analysis of multi-word expressions. These studies leverage LLMs to generate quantitative predictions about human behavior, providing a powerful tool for testing psycholinguistic theories and advancing our understanding of the human language faculty.
