SNOMED CT is a comprehensive clinical terminology system used to standardize and structure medical information, primarily aiming to improve interoperability and data analysis in healthcare. Current research focuses on automating the coding of unstructured clinical text (like doctor's notes) into SNOMED CT codes using natural language processing (NLP) techniques, often employing transformer models like BERT and large language models (LLMs) for improved accuracy and explainability. This work is crucial for advancing clinical research, improving patient care through more efficient data analysis, and facilitating the development of AI-driven diagnostic and treatment tools.
