Task Oriented Dialog

Task-oriented dialog (TOD) research focuses on building conversational agents that can effectively assist users in completing specific tasks, such as making reservations or searching for information. Current research emphasizes improving the robustness and efficiency of these systems, addressing challenges like catastrophic forgetting in continual learning, and exploring more efficient exploration strategies in reinforcement learning, often employing model-based RL approaches and incorporating curiosity-driven mechanisms. This field is significant due to its potential to enhance human-computer interaction across various applications, driving improvements in virtual assistants, customer service systems, and other interactive technologies, and necessitating the development of more realistic and diverse datasets for training and evaluation.
