Natural Language to SPARQL
Overview
Natural language to SPARQL studies how to turn questions into queries that retrieve answers from structured knowledge graphs. Systems use language models with schema and ontology context, entity and relation grounding, question decomposition, and retrieved examples; some also refine queries using execution feedback or graph constraints. Methods are evaluated on benchmarks involving Wikidata, Freebase, DBpedia, and domain-specific graphs, with growing attention to execution accuracy, runtime, and cost. A central challenge is grounding ambiguous questions in unfamiliar or changing schemas, while exact query matching can fail to reflect whether a system returns the right answer.
