Quantum Circuit Compilation
Overview
Quantum circuit compilation turns an abstract quantum algorithm into operations that a particular device can execute, making efficient compilation important for limiting errors and scarce gate use. It includes gate synthesis and simplification, qubit mapping and routing, and hardware-specific scheduling such as ion shuttling. Approaches range from algebraic search and compiler-pass tuning to reinforcement learning, supervised models, and generative methods, evaluated on tasks such as Clifford synthesis, Hamiltonian simulation, and MQTBench or QUEKO routing circuits. A central challenge is balancing gate count and circuit depth against device-dependent fidelity, while ensuring methods scale and generalize across circuits and hardware.
