Abstract

Nowadays, an increasing number of works fuse LiDAR and RGB data in the bird's-eye view (BEV) space for 3D object detection in autonomous driving systems. However, existing methods suffer from over-reliance on the LiDAR branch, with insufficient exploration of RGB information. To tackle this issue, we propose Fusion4CA, which is built upon the classic BEVFusion framework and dedicated to fully exploiting visual input with plug-and-play components. Specifically, a contrastive alignment module is designed to calibrate image features with 3D geometry, and a camera auxiliary branch is introduced to mine RGB information sufficiently during training. For further performance enhancement, we leverage an off-the-shelf cognitive adapter to make the most of pretrained image weights, and integrate a standard coordinate attention module into the fusion stage as a supplementary boost. Experiments on the nuScenes dataset demonstrate that our method achieves 69.7% mAP with only 6 training epochs and a mere 3.48% increase in inference parameters, yielding a 1.2% improvement over the baseline which is fully trained for 20 epochs. Extensive experiments in a simulated lunar environment further validate the effectiveness and generalization of our method. Our code will be released through Fusion4CA.

R4Det: 4D Radar-Camera Fusion for High-Performance 3D Object Detection

4D radar-camera sensing configuration has gained increasing importance in autonomous driving. However, existing 3D object detection methods that fuse 4D Radar and camera data confront several challenges. First, their absolute depth estimation module is not robust and accurate enough, leading to inaccurate 3D localization. Second, the performance of their temporal fusion module will degrade dramatically or even fail when the ego vehicle's pose is missing or inaccurate. Third, for some small objects, the sparse radar point clouds may completely fail to reflect from their surfaces. In such cases, detection must rely solely on visual unimodal priors. To address these limitations, we propose R4Det, which enhances depth estimation quality via the Panoramic Depth Fusion module, enabling mutual reinforcement between absolute and relative depth. For temporal fusion, we design a Deformable Gated Temporal Fusion module that does not rely on the ego vehicle's pose. In addition, we built an Instance-Guided Dynamic Refinement module that extracts semantic prototypes from 2D instance guidance. Experiments show that R4Det achieves state-of-the-art 3D object detection results on the TJ4DRadSet and VoD datasets. The source code and models will be released at https://github.com/VDIGPKU/R4Det.

SARFusion: Scene-Aware Routing Fusion for Robust Camera-LiDAR 3D Object Detection

Camera-LiDAR fusion has become a prevailing paradigm for 3D object detection in autonomous driving. However, existing fusion detectors often establish strong inter-modality dependencies by decoding object queries from tightly coupled multimodal representations. Under corrupted driving conditions, such dependencies make the detector vulnerable to unreliable modalities, where degraded observations may interfere with reliable modality-specific evidence and lead to suboptimal predictions. Moreover, modality reliability can vary across both global driving scenes and individual object queries, requiring adaptive fusion decisions at a finer granularity. To bridge this gap, we reformulate robust camera-LiDAR fusion as a scene-aware branch routing problem and propose SARFusion, a robust 3D object detector. Instead of producing detections from a single fused representation, SARFusion decouples object-query decoding into three parallel reasoning branches: a camera branch, a LiDAR branch, and a camera-LiDAR fusion branch. Guided by a Scene Reliability Prior estimated from the global driving context, SARFusion further incorporates object-level evidence to route each query to the most suitable branch. This query-wise routing strategy alleviates harmful cross-modal interference while preserving the benefits of multimodal fusion when complementary cues are trustworthy. On the nuScenes test set, SARFusion achieves strong performance with 72.5 mAP and 74.4 NDS. Extensive analyses demonstrate its robustness under challenging conditions, including sensor corruptions and environmental changes.

Co-Fusion4D: Spatio-temporal Collaborative Fusion for Robust 3D Object Detection

In autonomous driving, 3D object detection is essential for accurate perception and reliable decision-making. However, object motion and ego-motion often induce cross-frame spatiotemporal inconsistencies in BEV-based detectors, leading to temporal BEV feature misalignment and degraded spatiotemporal consistency. To address these challenges, we propose Co-Fusion4D, a unified framework that explicitly preserves cross-frame spatiotemporal consistency and suppresses temporal feature drift. Co-Fusion4D adopts a current-frame-centric strategy, treating the current frame as the primary source of information while selectively incorporating historical frames after spatiotemporal filtering and alignment. This dominant-complementary mechanism effectively mitigates cumulative alignment errors, suppresses noisy feature propagation, and exploits reliable temporal cues for a more consistent BEV representation. In addition, Co-Fusion4D integrates a Dual Attention Fusion (DAF) module to further enhance spatiotemporal feature interaction. DAF jointly leverages intra-frame spatial attention and inter-frame temporal attention to adaptively align and fuse multi-frame features, emphasizing motion-consistent regions while suppressing spurious correlations. By departing from conventional uniform fusion paradigms, this design substantially improves the temporal stability and discriminative capability of BEV representations. Extensive experiments on the nuScenes benchmark demonstrate that Co-Fusion4D achieves state-of-the-art performance, with 74.9% mAP and 75.6% NDS, without relying on test-time augmentation or external data.
