Abstract

We introduce C-GenReg, a training-free framework for 3D point cloud registration that leverages the complementary strengths of world-scale generative priors and registration-oriented Vision Foundation Models (VFMs). Current learning-based 3D point cloud registration methods struggle to generalize across sensing modalities, sampling differences, and environments. Hence, C-GenReg augments the geometric point cloud registration branch by transferring the matching problem into an auxiliary image domain, where VFMs excel, using a World Foundation Model to synthesize multi-view-consistent RGB representations from the input geometry. This generative transfer, preserves spatial coherence across source and target views without any fine-tuning. From these generated views, a VFM pretrained for finding dense correspondences extracts matches. The resulting pixel correspondences are lifted back to 3D via the original depth maps. To further enhance robustness, we introduce a "Match-then-Fuse" probabilistic cold-fusion scheme that combines two independent correspondence posteriors, that of the generated-RGB branch with that of the raw geometric branch. This principled fusion preserves each modality inductive bias and provides calibrated confidence without any additional learning. C-GenReg is zero-shot and plug-and-play: all modules are pretrained and operate without fine-tuning. Extensive experiments on indoor (3DMatch, ScanNet) and outdoor (Waymo) benchmarks demonstrate strong zero-shot performance and superior cross-domain generalization. For the first time, we demonstrate a generative registration framework that operates successfully on real outdoor LiDAR data, where no imagery data is available.

UniCorrn: Unified Correspondence Transformer Across 2D and 3D

Visual correspondence across image-to-image (2D-2D), image-to-point cloud (2D-3D), and point cloud-to-point cloud (3D-3D) geometric matching forms the foundation for numerous 3D vision tasks. Despite sharing a similar problem structure, current methods use task-specific designs with separate models for each modality combination. We present UniCorrn, the first correspondence model with shared weights that unifies geometric matching across all three tasks. Our key insight is that Transformer attention naturally captures cross-modal feature similarity. We propose a dual-stream decoder that maintains separate appearance and positional feature streams. This design enables end-to-end learning through stack-able layers while supporting flexible query-based correspondence estimation across heterogeneous modalities. Our architecture employs modality-specific backbones followed by shared encoder and decoder components, trained jointly on diverse data combining pseudo point clouds from depth maps with real 3D correspondence annotations. UniCorrn achieves competitive performance on 2D-2D matching and surpasses prior state-of-the-art by 8% on 7Scenes (2D-3D) and 10% on 3DLoMatch (3D-3D) in registration recall. Mask 2D-3D: Adaptive Dual-Masked Autoencoder Network for Image-to-Point Cloud Registration

Detection-free methods for image-to-point cloud registration are prone to erroneous correspondences caused by domain and modality discrepancies, limited sensitivity of feature extractors, and the presence of non-overlapping regions. The Masked Autoencoder (MAE) has shown strong performance in visual representation for images and point clouds. It may be helpful to apply this approach to image-to-point cloud registration, a task that requires unified feature extraction and accurate cross-modal correspondences. Standard MAE's random masking may overlook key regions due to limited camera views, reducing registration effectiveness. To address this, we propose the Intermodal Dual-MAE Framework (ID-MAE) with a Similarity-based RL Masking Strategy (SRLM), which adaptively masks informative positions by leveraging cross-modal similarity and reinforcement learning, thus narrowing the modality gap. Our method enhances cross-modal representation learning by enforcing representation consistency during feature extraction, thereby enabling more reliable 2D-3D correspondence estimation. Experiments on RGB-D Scenes v2 and 7-Scenes benchmarks show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in image-to-point cloud registration.

Ordered Diffusion for 3D Human Registration

3D human registration has historically been treated as a regression task, assuming a unique ground-truth alignment exists between the template and an input point cloud. In reality, acquisition noise, occlusions, and unknown soft tissue dynamics introduce inherent ambiguity into human scans. Regression-based methods consequently converge to an average prediction, often failing to represent a plausible geometry. In our work, we embrace such uncertainty by modeling the registration as a distribution of alignments. We propose ODin, which formulates registration as a 3D diffusion process that generates a point cloud aligned with the target geometry while preserving template semantics through consistent point ordering. To achieve this, ODin relies on global, local, and positional conditioning, guiding each point to its correct location. Our experiments demonstrate that such a generative formulation not only outperforms its regression-based baseline, but also establishes a new state of the art, surpassing highly engineered methods while reducing the registration time by two-thirds.
