Abstract

Recent advances in video generative models enable the synthesis of realistic human-object interaction videos across a wide range of scenarios and object categories, including complex dexterous manipulations that are difficult to capture with motion capture systems. While the rich interaction knowledge embedded in these synthetic videos holds strong potential for motion planning in dexterous robotic manipulation, their limited physical fidelity and purely 2D nature make them difficult to use directly as imitation targets in physics-based character control. We present DeVI (Dexterous Video Imitation), a novel framework that leverages text-conditioned synthetic videos to enable physically plausible dexterous agent control for interacting with unseen target objects. To overcome the imprecision of generative 2D cues, we introduce a hybrid tracking reward that integrates 3D human tracking with robust 2D object tracking. Unlike methods relying on high-quality 3D kinematic demonstrations, DeVI requires only the generated video, enabling zero-shot generalization across diverse objects and interaction types. Extensive experiments demonstrate that DeVI outperforms existing approaches that imitate 3D human-object interaction demonstrations, particularly in modeling dexterous hand-object interactions. We further validate the effectiveness of DeVI in multi-object scenes and text-driven action diversity, showcasing the advantage of using video as an HOI-aware motion planner.

Grounding Generated Video Plans in Simulation Towards Versatile Dexterous Controllers

Generated hand-object interaction (HOI) videos provide a controllable way to propose manipulation motions. Simulation-based HOI tracking can translate such kinematic references into feasible low-level control, but its scalability is limited by the lack of reliable reference motions. We therefore combine generated videos with simulation-based HOI grounding: during training, generated videos provide diverse motion references for learning a multi-object, multi-trajectory HOI tracker, and at deployment, the video model produces motion plans that are executed by the learned tracker. In particular, we propose a method that enables scalable reference generation by HOI reconstruction with minimal manual intervention and successfully grounds more than 1,500 generated videos in simulation, achieving success rates over 25 percentage points higher than those of baselines during simulation-based training. In real-world closed-loop experiments, it achieves diverse grasps, including functional grasps, non-prehensile manipulation, and post-grasp object-pose tracking. DexSIM: Real-time Dexterous Simulation with Unified Causal Video Diffusion

Recent progress of video diffusion models have enabled extensive simulation of the physical world. While simulation with hand object interaction has been less explored. We propose DexSIM, a dexterous simulation framework for simulating dexterous manipulation in real-time. While previous works utilizing video diffusion and 3D reconstruction focus on navigation, dexterous manipulation has been limited while it has extensive applications for creating interactive experiences with the simulated world and for generating synthetic data for robotics. Existing methods lack real-time interactivity and long-term spatial consistency and memory. We propose a 2-stage training framework for DexSIM. First we train a bi-directional video diffusion model by jointly embedding the hand action trajectory and video in a unified feature space. We utilize gaussian heatmap hand encoding for more accurate hand representation. Then we conduct a roll-out based autoregressive training with updated spatial cache as attention sink for spatial memory, which improves long-term consistency and 3D aware dexterous manipulation simulation. DexSIM outperforms the baseline on pixel and semantic similarity, motion fidelity, and hand projection accuracy. It also allows new applications such as hand motion transfer and runs at 15.24 FPS real-time interactivity.

Dex2HOI: Dexterous Bimanual Two-Object Interaction Generation

Recent advances in 4D Human-Object Interaction (HOI) generation have enabled increasingly realistic motion synthesis, particularly for single-object manipulation. Yet current research overlooks an inherent property of human behavior: people naturally coordinate both hands and manipulate multiple objects simultaneously. To address this gap, we present Dex2HOI, a unified diffusion model for single- and two-object HOI synthesis from text. At its core, Dex2HOI employs a Dual-Stream Diffusion approach, where each object is processed in a dedicated interaction stream and coordinated through bidirectional cross-attention. To synthesize the final motion, we introduce a Motion Fusion Network integrated with novel hand-relative object representations and contact-aware conditioning applied across the whole sequence. By sampling the diffusion process autoregressively over prefix-conditioned windows, Dex2HOI generates arbitrarily long sequences at real-time speed omitting redundant test-time optimization, achieving up to x540 inference speed-up over prior state-of-the-art methods. Extensive evaluation on both single- and two-object benchmarks demonstrates state-of-the-art quantitative results, marking a step beyond conventional single-object HOI generation and toward expressive multi-object manipulation. Code and models will be released upon acceptance.
