Abstract

Zero-shot Object Navigation (ZSON) has shown promise for open-vocabulary target search in unseen environments, yet most existing systems remain tied to planar representations and single-floor assumptions. These assumptions become inadequate in real buildings, where navigation involves floors, stairs, landings, and vertically overlapping spaces. This article presents TravExplorer, a cross-floor embodied exploration framework that couples zero-shot semantic guidance with traversability-aware 3-D planning. TravExplorer maintains a unified volumetric map that distinguishes occupied structures from robot-reachable support surfaces and extracts traversable frontiers from connected support surfaces, including floors, stairs, and landings. A FOV-aware active perception strategy further resolves incomplete observations during cross-floor traversal. To reduce semantic-reasoning latency, a lightweight guidance module aligns a probabilistic instance map from online open-vocabulary segmentation with a spatial value map from fast image-to-text matching. Based on these geometric and semantic memories, a hierarchical planner performs target-aware frontier touring over object hypotheses, traversable frontiers, and stair landmarks, and generates executable cross-floor motions through foothold-guided 3-D search and vertically constrained local trajectory optimization. Experiments over 4,195 simulated episodes on HM3D and MP3D demonstrate consistent advantages over representative ObjectNav baselines. Fifty real-world trials on a Unitree Go2 further validate open-vocabulary target search across single-floor and cross-floor indoor environments without prior maps or human intervention. The code will be released at https://github.com/wuyi2121/TravExplorer.

ZONDA: Zero-shot Object Navigation with Dynamic Avoidance in Multi-floor Environments

In Object Goal Navigation task, existing methods are typically restricted to static and single-floor environments, ignoring cross-floor topologies and dynamic pedestrian, which limits their real-world deployment. To address these limitations, we propose ZONDA, a zero-shot object navigation with dynamic avoidance framework. In particular, ZONDA integrates three core components: (i) Heuristic multi-floor planning: from height-difference traversable maps, enables stair traversal and cross-floor exploration without a platform-specific learned controller; (ii) Multi-view target verification: cross-checks multi-scale observations with a vision-language model, significantly reducing false positives; and (iii) Dynamic pedestrian avoidance: explicitly tracks and predicts moving pedestrians to generate anticipatory behaviors. Evaluated on a real Direct Drive Tech TITA biped robot and extensive simulations on HM3D and MP3D, ZONDA achieves significantly improved results. Moreover, ZONDA can maintain robust navigation on the dynamic benchmark HM3D-DYNA compared to the existing baseline.

LifelongCrossNav: Persistent 3D Semantic Memory for Cross-Floor Multi-Object Navigation

Object-goal navigation has made substantial progress in semantic perception and exploration, yet persistent memory for multi-object navigation and cross-floor navigation are still commonly addressed separately. We present LifelongCrossNav, a framework for sequential multi-object ObjectNav in unknown multi-floor indoor environments. Within each episode, the agent receives an ordered sequence of object-goal queries while continuously maintaining a shared sparse 3D semantic voxel memory. This memory incrementally accumulates geometric structure, traversability states, and vision-language features, allowing subsequent object-goal queries to retrieve previously acquired scene information without rebuilding the map. To support persistent search across floors, LifelongCrossNav combines support-aware 3D traversability mapping, stair-specific perception, and direction-aware stair traversal. A unified navigation policy coordinates same-floor frontier exploration, live and historical point-of-interest retrieval, stair navigation, and target-object search and approach. We further introduce HM3D-MFMON, a benchmark for sequential Multi-Floor Multi-Object Navigation built on HM3D scenes, including a dedicated subset in which completing the full sequence of object-goal subtasks requires at least one floor transition. Experimental results show that LifelongCrossNav consistently outperforms a representative planar persistent semantic-map baseline on HM3D-MFMON, demonstrating that persistent 3D semantic memory and cross-floor traversability modeling effectively support sequential multi-object navigation in multi-floor environments. FloVerse: Floor Plan-Guided Multi-Modal Navigation

Floor plans encapsulate compact spatial priors, enabling agents to navigate unseen scenes more efficiently. While prior work has explored floor plan-guided navigation, it has focused mainly on PointNav and a limited set of environments. To bridge this gap, we introduce FloVerse, a new task for floor plan-guided embodied navigation that unifies PointNav, ObjectNav, and ImageNav. To support FloVerse, we assemble FloVerse-1.6K, a large-scale dataset of 1.6K scenes from HM3D and Gibson 4+, paired with corresponding floor plans, comprising 240K expert trajectories and 12M RGBD frames. We further propose ThreeDiff, a two-stage imitation learning policy comprising a planner, a diffusion-based multimodal goal-reasoning module trained via masked-modality modeling, and a refiner, a depth-based trajectory-refinement module for safe execution. Extensive experiments demonstrate that (1) floor-plan priors improve navigation performance across all goal modalities, and (2) ThreeDiff implicitly captures spatial information from floor plans. These results underscore the effectiveness of spatial priors and validate our proposed unified approach for floor plan-guided embodied navigation.
