Abstract

Recent layout-to-image models have achieved remarkable progress in spatial controllability. However, they still struggle with inter-object occlusion. When bounding boxes overlap, most existing methods lack explicit occlusion information, which makes the generation in intersection regions inherently ambiguous and hinders the determination of complex occlusion relationships. As a result, they often produce entangled textures or physically inconsistent layering in the overlapped areas. To address this issue, we first construct SA-Z, a large-scale dataset enriched with explicit occlusion ordering and pixel-level annotations. Building upon our proposed dataset, we introduce OcclusionFormer, a novel occlusion-aware Diffusion Transformer framework that explicitly models Z-order priority by decoupling instances and compositing them via volume rendering. Furthermore, to ensure fine-grained spatial precision, we introduce a queried alignment loss that explicitly supervises individual instances and enhances semantic consistency. The proposed method effectively reduces ambiguity in overlapping regions, enforces correct occlusion dependencies, and preserves structural integrity, leading to substantial accuracy gains across diverse scenes.

Learning to Generate Multiple Objects from Dense and Occluded Layouts

Text-to-image diffusion models fail to generate correct object counts in dense scenes, where overlapping instances collapse into indistinguishable structures despite appearing visually plausible. We identify this as instance ownership collapse: tokens from overlapping objects interact freely through attention, while heavily occluded instances receive weak supervision due to their small visible areas. We address this through layout-aware attention biases that softly bias token interactions toward region-consistent grouping and suppress cross-instance leakage, paired with an amodal-balanced loss that amplifies gradients for occluded objects based on their occlusion level. To enable systematic evaluation, we introduce OverlapDepth-45K, a benchmark of densely overlapping scenes with amodal supervision. Our approach substantially improves count accuracy and prevents instance merging while preserving image quality. Project page: https://bachngoh.github.io/AIBL

CasLayout: Cascaded 3D Layout Diffusion for Indoor Scene Synthesis with Implicit Relation Modeling

Synthesizing realistic 3D indoor scenes remains challenging due to data scarcity and the difficulty of simultaneously enforcing global architectural constraints and local semantic consistency. Existing approaches often overlook structural boundaries or rely on fully connected relation graphs that introduce redundant generation errors. Inspired by human design cognition, we present CasLayout, a cascaded diffusion framework that decomposes the joint scene generation task into four conditional sub-stages with explicit physical and semantic roles: (1) predicting furniture quantity and categories, (2) refining object sizes and feature embeddings, (3) modeling spatial relationships in a latent space, and (4) generating Oriented Bounding Boxes (OBBs). This decoupled architecture reduces data requirements and enables flexible integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Vision Language Models (VLMs) for zero-shot tasks such as image-to-scene generation. To maintain physical validity within complex floor plans, we explicitly model building elements (e.g., walls, doors, and windows) as conditional constraints. Furthermore, to address the high entropy of dense relation graphs, we introduce a sparse relation graph formulation aligned with human spatial descriptions. By encoding these sparse graphs into a compact latent space using a bidirectional Variational Autoencoder (VAE), the proposed framework provides enhanced relational controllability, allowing generated layouts to better respect functional organization. Experiments demonstrate that CasLayout achieves state-of-the-art performance in fidelity and diversity while enabling improved controllability in practical applications.

Training-Free Occluded Text Rendering via Glyph Priors and Attention-Guided Semantic Blending

We present a training-free framework for occluded text rendering with a pretrained FLUX.1-dev backbone. The task requires a model to render recognizable typography and place an occluding object over the intended text region. This setting remains difficult for existing text-to-image generators: the occluder often drifts away from the text, while the text may be distorted or appear to float on top of the occluding object. To address this problem, we propose a restarted dual-stream inference framework that decouples text-layout preservation from occluder insertion. A Base Stream provides a clean typographic reference and same-step key/value (K/V) features, while the Edit Stream is conditioned on the occlusion prompt. We further adopt the spectral glyph-prior idea from FreeText and adapt it to stabilize the target text structure during early-to-mid denoising. In the reasoning pass, our method localizes the target text, estimates a text-band region from token-conditioned attention and glyph support, and derives an anchor-aware hard fusion mask for the occluder. In the final edit pass, generation restarts from the same initial noise and applies hard mask-guided image-token K/V replacement at selected attention sites, preserving the Base layout outside the mask while injecting the occluder appearance from the Edit Stream inside the mask. Experiments on representative occluded text scenarios demonstrate substantially improved text readability and competitive occlusion alignment, yielding more stable object-on-text compositions without any model fine-tuning.
