Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly employed in urban inspection tasks, where reliable communication is critical but challenging due to the severe spatial channel heterogeneity. To address the issue, in this paper, we focus on the communication-aware path planning for multi-UAV tasks, and propose a channel knowledge map (CKM)-driven trajectory planning framework which integrates the channel modeling and trajectory decision-making. Specifically, we apply the diffusion model to construct a time-accumulated CKM and achieve the accurate perception with low flight overhead, which leverages the sparse observation data to reconstruct the high-fidelity global channel quality distribution. Based on the CKM, we propose a global-to-local graph attention network soft actor-critic algorithm. The graph attention network optimizes the complex combinatorial node ordering problem, generating an optimal and communication-aware sequence for the inspection targets. Subsequently, the soft actor-critic algorithm performs continuous action control to ensure the smoothness of the flight path and dynamically avoid communication attenuation areas. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively guides UAVs through high-quality channel regions without dependence on real-time channel feedback, significantly improving both the trajectory efficiency and communication reliability.

Geometry-Aware Cross-Height Channel Knowledge Map Prediction for UAV-Assisted Communications With Uncertainty-Guided 3D Sensing

Low-altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) often need to infer channel knowledge across a range of heights from only sparse observations collected at a few altitude layers. To address this challenge, this paper studies height-conditioned cross-height channel knowledge map (CKM) prediction for UAV-assisted communications in geometry-rich urban environments. We develop a geometry-aware conditional prediction framework that combines urban scene priors, sparse multi-altitude observations, and target-height descriptors to reconstruct dense CKMs at unobserved target heights. An uncertainty head is further introduced to characterize prediction confidence and to support cost-aware online UAV sensing under motion and safety constraints. Experiments on a layered aerial CKM benchmark show that the proposed Feature Pyramid Network (FPN)-Transformer achieves the best overall performance under both unseen-scene zero-shot and legacy patch-random protocols, reducing the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) to 5.347dB and 1.111dB, respectively, compared with 6.937dB and 1.221dB for the strongest baseline 3D-RadioDiff. Moreover, after applying our unseen-scene few-shot adaptation, the RMSE further decreases from 5.347dB in zero-shot prediction to 3.518dB with 10-shot two-height support, while the uncertainty-guided cost-aware sensing policy improves active reconstruction from 6.94dB at initialization to 4.79dB at sensing budget 40, outperforming uncertainty-only sensing at 5.08dB and random aerial sampling at 5.84dB.

Co-planning of Flight Corridors and Communication Infrastructure for Urban Drone Logistics Networks

Reliable wireless connectivity is essential for urban air mobility (UAM) networks in dense urban environments. It is therefore imperative to carefully plan the supporting communication infrastructure for UAM flight corridors. Most existing works optimize communication infrastructure and UAV flight paths independently, often leading to unnecessary base station (BS) deployment or excessive flight detours. This paper studies the joint optimization of BS deployment and UAV flight corridors in complex urban environments, aiming to minimize both infrastructure investment and flight distance while satisfying communication quality constraints. We propose CR-CMAB, a channel reciprocity-guided combinatorial multi-armed bandit framework. The framework constructs high-fidelity radio maps using 3D ray tracing, selects BS combinations via coverage-aware CMAB search, and dynamically expands the search space by identifying promising BS locations through channel reciprocity. Experimental results from a detailed case study demonstrate that CR-CMAB outperforms baseline methods with moderate computational time, yielding more strategically positioned BSs and shorter flight corridors. This study offers a practical planning perspective for cost-effective and communication-reliable UAM deployment in future smart cities.

Low-Altitude Channel Multipath Prediction via Panoramic Perception and Vision-Language Model

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication is expected to support a wide range of low-altitude applications in 6G mobile networks. However, traditional statistical channel models provide limited accuracy in specific environments, while deterministic methods such as ray tracing usually rely on accurate three-dimensional environment models and involve high computational complexity. Existing multimodal channel prediction approaches mainly focus on large-scale metrics such as path loss, and remain insufficient for modeling small-scale parameters. To address these limitations, this paper proposes PanoLAMP, a Panoramic perception and vision-language model-based Low-Altitude Multipath Prediction framework. It adopts a pretrained vision-language model as the backbone and captures the propagation environment features through panoramic RGB-D observations collected at both the transmitter and receiver to predict the delay, power, azimuth angle, and zenith angle offset relative to the line-of-sight path. Experiments are conducted on a synthetic dataset containing 18,949 UAV-vehicle links across seven UAV altitudes. Experimental results show that the proposed method consistently outperforms representative baselines in both multipath parameters and statistical metrics, and demonstrates stronger generalization across different flight heights.
