Abstract

Multi-modal image matching is essential for visual localization and multi-sensor fusion, but it is hindered by the scarcity of large-scale training data with precise geometric annotations. Existing real-world datasets suffer from prohibitive costs, limited scene diversity, and errors in SfM-MVS pipelines, while synthetic methods struggle to maintain 3D geometric consistency or achieve photorealistic appearance. To address this, we propose AnyMatch, a novel framework that leverages abundant, easily accessible single-view images at minimal cost to generate rich multi-modal training data. AnyMatch integrates monocular depth estimation, 3D reprojection, diffusion-based inpainting, and crossmodal image translation to synthesize multi-view, multi-modal image pairs with 3D geometric fidelity. Crucially, our method provides annotations that strictly adhere to 3D geometric consistency through explicit 3D reprojection, avoiding SfM-MVS error accumulation. Furthermore, AnyMatch offers strong scalability, enabling controllable scene diversity and annotation difficulty via adjustable input and camera parameters. We construct Any-syn, a large-scale synthetic multi-modal dataset using AnyMatch. Experimental results show that matching networks (e.g., LoFTR, EDM, RoMa) fine-tuned on Any-syn achieve substantial performance gains on multi-modal benchmarks, exhibiting superior generalization and robustness compared to models trained on existing data.

Unlocking Zero-shot Potential of Semi-dense Image Matching via Gaussian Splatting

Learning-based image matching critically depends on large-scale, diverse, and geometrically accurate training data. 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables photorealistic novel-view synthesis and thus is attractive for data generation. However, its geometric inaccuracies and biased depth rendering currently prevent robust correspondence labeling. To address this, we introduce MatchGS, the first framework designed to systematically correct and leverage 3DGS for robust, zero-shot image matching. Our approach is twofold: (1) a geometrically-faithful data generation pipeline that refines 3DGS geometry to produce highly precise correspondence labels, enabling the synthesis of a vast and diverse range of viewpoints without compromising rendering fidelity; and (2) a 2D-3D representation alignment strategy that infuses 3DGS' explicit 3D knowledge into the 2D matcher, guiding 2D semi-dense matchers to learn viewpoint-invariant 3D representations. Our generated ground-truth correspondences reduce the epipolar error by up to 40 times compared to existing datasets, enable supervision under extreme viewpoint changes, and provide self-supervisory signals through Gaussian attributes. Consequently, state-of-the-art matchers trained solely on our data achieve significant zero-shot performance gains on public benchmarks, with improvements of up to 17.7%. Our work demonstrates that with proper geometric refinement, 3DGS can serve as a scalable, high-fidelity, and structurally-rich data source, paving the way for a new generation of robust zero-shot image matchers.

SAMatcher: Co-Visibility Modeling with Segment Anything for Robust Feature Matching

Reliable correspondence estimation is a fundamental problem in image processing, underpinning applications such as Structure from Motion, visual localization, and image registration. Existing learning-based methods have significantly improved local feature representations, yet most still operate at the pixel or patch level and lack explicit modeling of regions that are jointly visible across views. We propose SAMatcher, a feature matching framework that formulates correspondence estimation through co-visibility modeling. Instead of directly matching local features, SAMatcher first predicts co-visible region masks and bounding boxes as structured priors for correspondence estimation. Built upon the Segment Anything Model (SAM), it introduces a symmetric cross-view interaction mechanism that enables bidirectional feature exchange and cross-view semantic alignment. We further develop a unified supervision scheme that jointly optimizes mask prediction and box localization through mask learning, box regression, and mask-box consistency constraints. Extensive experiments on challenging benchmarks demonstrate substantial improvements over existing matching pipelines, particularly under large viewpoint and scale variations. Our results show that foundation models originally designed for monocular segmentation can be effectively extended to multi-view correspondence reasoning through explicit co-visibility modeling, offering a new perspective on structured representation learning for image matching. UniCorrn: Unified Correspondence Transformer Across 2D and 3D

Visual correspondence across image-to-image (2D-2D), image-to-point cloud (2D-3D), and point cloud-to-point cloud (3D-3D) geometric matching forms the foundation for numerous 3D vision tasks. Despite sharing a similar problem structure, current methods use task-specific designs with separate models for each modality combination. We present UniCorrn, the first correspondence model with shared weights that unifies geometric matching across all three tasks. Our key insight is that Transformer attention naturally captures cross-modal feature similarity. We propose a dual-stream decoder that maintains separate appearance and positional feature streams. This design enables end-to-end learning through stack-able layers while supporting flexible query-based correspondence estimation across heterogeneous modalities. Our architecture employs modality-specific backbones followed by shared encoder and decoder components, trained jointly on diverse data combining pseudo point clouds from depth maps with real 3D correspondence annotations. UniCorrn achieves competitive performance on 2D-2D matching and surpasses prior state-of-the-art by 8% on 7Scenes (2D-3D) and 10% on 3DLoMatch (3D-3D) in registration recall.
