SalientGS: Unified SfM-to-3DGS with Importance-Guided MCMC Gaussian Allocation

Authors: Tianyu XiongRui LiSuning GeJiaqi Yang

Abstract

Reconstructing 3D scenes from unordered images remains bottlenecked by expensive Structure-from-Motion (SfM) preprocessing and frozen pose interfaces. We present SalientGS, a unified SfM-to-3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) pipeline. Its central contribution is importance-guided Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) Gaussian allocation, which aggregates multi-view residuals into per-Gaussian underfit and redundancy signals. These signals define a smooth importance-weighted sampling distribution that biases both birth and relocation toward underfit regions. This reallocates capacity from well-fit areas without altering the underlying stochastic gradient Langevin dynamics (SGLD). SalientGS achieves end-to-end reconstruction in 15 minutes with state-of-the-art perceptual quality. The supplementary material provides dedicated sections for Per-Scene Qualitative Comparisons and Per-Image Learned Perceptual Image Patch Similarity (LPIPS) Analysis, including failure cases. Fast 3D Foundation Model Initialized Gaussian Splatting

This paper introduces a fast method for high-quality 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) reconstruction without traditional Structure-from-Motion (SfM). The proposed approach leverages 3D Foundation Models (3DFMs) for camera pose and point-cloud initialization, then jointly optimizes both camera poses and Gaussian primitives using a depth-guided loss function. This enables fast convergence even from rough initialization with as few as 50-60 input views. To further improve reconstruction quality in sparse-view scenarios, an MLP-based pose refinement module is introduced alongside depth-guided supervision from the foundation model. Extensive experiments on Mip-NeRF 360, Tanks and Temples, and RobustNeRF demonstrate that the proposed method achieves competitive reconstruction quality (23.61 dB PSNR, 0.19 LPIPS) while reducing training time to approximately three minutes per scene. The proposed method produces ready-to-use 3DGS models at a fraction of the time required by existing pipelines, making it suitable for near real-time applications in robotics, VR, and autonomous navigation.

StructSplat: Generalizable 3D Gaussian Splatting from Uncalibrated Sparse Views

We present StructSplat, a feed-forward and generalizable 3D Gaussian reconstruction framework that operates directly on uncalibrated images without requiring camera parameters. Existing methods either rely on per-scene optimization or assume known camera poses, and often entangle geometry and appearance within a unified backbone, limiting reconstruction fidelity and generalization. Our key idea is to adopt a structured representation that organizes geometry, semantic, and texture cues with explicit roles in the reconstruction process. Specifically, we introduce a pixel-aligned feature injection mechanism to enable accurate texture modeling from 2D observations, incorporate semantic-aware priors to improve global consistency, and design a camera alignment strategy to prevent information leakage and improve generalization. Experiments show that our method significantly outperforms prior approaches on challenging benchmarks. On DL3DV, our method achieves 28.045 PSNR, surpassing AnySplat (22.377) by +5.67 dB. In cross-dataset evaluation, our method achieves +1.94 dB over AnySplat on ACID and +1.72 dB on RealEstate10K. Efficient Dense Matching for Enhanced Gaussian Splatting Using AV1 Motion Vectors

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged as a prominent framework for real-time, photorealistic scene reconstruction, offering significant speed-ups over Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF). However, the fidelity of 3DGS representations remains heavily dependent on the quality of the initial point cloud. While standard Structure-from-Motion (SfM) pipelines using COLMAP provide adequate initialisation, they often suffer from high computational costs and sparsity in textureless regions, which degrades subsequent reconstruction accuracy and convergence speed. In this work, we introduce an AV1-based feature detection and matching pipeline that significantly reduces SfM processing overhead. By leveraging motion vectors inherent to the AV1 video codec, we bypass computationally expensive exhaustive matching while maintaining geometric robustness. Our pipeline produces substantially denser point clouds, with up to eight times as many points as classical SfM. We demonstrate that this enhanced initialisation directly improves 3DGS performance, yielding an 9-point increase in VMAF and a 63% average reduction in training time required to reach baseline quality.
