Abstract

Multi-Camera People Tracking (MCPT) traditionally relies on precise intrinsic and extrinsic camera calibration to project 2D detections into a unified 3D world coordinate system. However, manual calibration constitutes a major bottleneck in large-scale dataset generation from unconstrained video archives. This work proposes a unified calibration-free 3D MCPT framework that infers geometric structure directly from visual data using deep foundation models. The system integrates anchor-free detection (YOLOX), robust tracking (BoT-SORT), omni-scale appearance embedding (OsNet), pose estimation (HRNet via MMPose), and transformer-based geometric reconstruction using the Visual Geometry Grounded Transformer (VGGT). A pose-guided 3D lifting strategy projects head keypoints onto a reconstructed manifold, eliminating dependence on ground-plane homography. Global identity association is formulated as hierarchical agglomerative clustering under a joint appearance-geometry cost with strict velocity gating. Evaluation on the AI City Challenge 2024 demonstrates a HOTA score of 53.13% without access to ground-truth calibration matrices, establishing a strong baseline for purely vision-based 3D tracking.

Fully Distributed Multi-View 3D Tracking in Real-Time

Multi-camera tracking with overlapping fields of view typically relies on centralized fusion, which creates computational bottlenecks that prevent deployment at scale. We present MV3DT, a fully distributed framework for real-time multi-view 3D tracking that achieves accurate identity propagation and occlusion recovery through peer-to-peer coordination, eliminating the need for central aggregation. Each camera node executes a lightweight modular pipeline comprising monocular 3D perception, distributed multi-view association, and collaborative fusion via lightweight messaging. MV3DT achieves 96.5% IDF1, 93.1% MOTA, and 94.6% MOTP on WILDTRACK, competitive with state-of-the-art centralized methods, and unprecedented 41.7% IDF1 and 50.9% MOTA on SCOUT while demonstrating superior scalability: sustaining 30 FPS on 100 cameras with <10ms inter-camera latency and only 2.2% communication overhead. MV3DT operates in a zero-shot regime given camera calibrations, requiring no scene-specific learning and making it directly deployable in new environments. These results establish MV3DT as a practical solution for real-time multi-view tracking in large-scale overlapping camera networks.

On-the-Fly Homographies Calibration for Multi-Camera Tracking

Precise multi-camera tracking traditionally relies on rigorous 3D site calibration, yet this requirement is often operationally impossible in large-scale deployments. Privacy regulations frequently prohibit recording video for offline calibration; limited bandwidth precludes synchronizing high-resolution streams from hundreds of cameras; and covering immense physical sites with calibration targets is logistically infeasible. We present a multi-camera homography calibration system designed to overcome these barriers through "on-the-fly" geometric refinement. Starting from coarse manual homographies, we introduce a centroid-based projection optimization (PO) that continuously aligns the ground-plane geometry using live detection streams. Because PO operates asynchronously on already-transmitted, lightweight metadata, it adds zero computational latency to the real-time tracker. This allows the system to adapt automatically to camera movements or environmental changes without human intervention. This optimized geometry feeds a multi-camera bird's-eye-view (BEV) tracker that fuses detections and unifies trajectories across zones. Crucially, by operating strictly on live anonymous metadata, our solution ensures a privacy-safe, zero-overhead, and resilient tracking pipeline that maintains global consistency in dynamic environments where static, recorded-video calibration is impossible.

CalibFree: Self-Supervised View Feature Separation for Calibration-Free Multi-Camera Multi-Object Tracking

Multi-camera multi-object tracking (MCMOT) faces significant challenges in maintaining consistent object identities across varying camera perspectives, particularly when precise calibration and extensive annotations are required. In this paper, we present CalibFree, a self-supervised representation learning framework that does not need any calibration or manual labeling for the MCMOT task. By promoting feature separation between view-agnostic and view-specific representations through single-view distillation and cross-view reconstruction, our method adapts to complex, dynamic scenarios with minimal overhead. Experiments on the MMP-MvMHAT dataset show a 3% improvement in overall accuracy and a 7.5% increase in the average F1 score over state-of-the-art approaches, confirming the effectiveness of our calibration-free design. Moreover, on the more diverse MvMHAT dataset, our approach demonstrates superior over-time tracking and strong cross-view performance, highlighting its adaptability to a wide range of camera configurations. Code will be publicly available upon acceptance.
