PanoLess: Environment Reconstruction from Partial Reflective Views

Authors: Ahitagni DasAshok VeeraraghavanVivek Boominathan

Abstract

Reflections from shiny objects and glass facades naturally extend the field of view of a camera, capturing the surrounding environment without the need to pan the camera or acquire a full panorama. We propose PanoLess, a Gaussian-splat-based framework that reconstructs the surrounding environment as a distant illumination map from images captured on only one side of a reflective surface. PanoLess leverages surface-aligned 2D Gaussian splats with deferred shading to recover accurate per-pixel normals and reflection cues, which are fused into a neural cubemap representation of the environment. In addition, PanoLess produces a visibility map that explicitly denotes which regions of the environment are supported by the partial reflective observations. Unlike existing inverse-rendering and reflection-aware Gaussian-splatting approaches, which typically require full 360-degree coverage and struggle under incomplete views, PanoLess enables consistent, physically grounded illumination estimation from partial-view input. We show that PanoLess achieves high-fidelity and geometrically consistent environment reconstruction, outperforming reflection-aware baselines on a new custom synthetic benchmark and publicly available datasets, and demonstrating generalization to real-world reflective captures.

PanoPlane: Plane-Aware Panoramic Completion for Sparse-View Indoor 3D Gaussian Splatting

We present PanoPlane, an approach for high-fidelity sparse-view indoor novel view synthesis that reconstructs closed room geometry via panoramic scene completion. Unlike perspective-based methods that generate training views from limited fields of view, PanoPlane leverages 360360^{\circ} panoramic completion to condition the generative process on the full spatial layout. We propose Layout Anchored Attention Steering, a training-free mechanism that steers attention within the diffusion model's internal representation toward scene's detected planar surfaces at inference time. By directing each unobserved region's attention toward geometrically consistent observed content, our method replaces unconstrained hallucination with grounded surface extrapolation. The resulting panoramic completions provide supervision for 3D Gaussian Splatting, enabling accurate novel-view synthesis across unobserved regions from as few as three input views. Experiments on Replica, ScanNet++, and Matterport3D demonstrate state-of-the-art novel view synthesis quality across 3, 6, and 9 input views, achieving up to +17.8%+17.8\% improvement in PSNR over the current state-of-the-art baseline without any training or fine-tuning of the diffusion model.

Geometry and Gradient-based Partitioning for Panoramic Outdoor Reconstruction

Scaling 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) to large outdoor scenes is costly in both data acquisition and computation. Adopting panoramic images with equirectangular projection (ERP) can reduce capture effort via their full 360360^{\circ} field of view, yet the resulting omnipresent visibility invalidates existing partitioning strategies that rely on local camera frustums, causing block-wise optimization to degenerate into global training. Thus, we propose PanoLOG, a two-stage coarse-to-fine framework equipped with a Geometry and Gradient-based Partitioning Strategy tailored for large-scale panoramic 3DGS reconstruction. In the global coarse stage, PanoLOG leverages sky-sphere modeling and panoramic monocular depth supervision for reliable geometry, while in the refinement stage, G2^2PS builds adaptive bounding volumes via parallax-driven uncertainty and assigns cameras via gradient-based importance scoring. Furthermore, we construct Pano360, the first benchmark on large-scale panoramic dataset for outdoor scene reconstruction. Extensive experiments demonstrate that G2^2PS achieves state-of-the-art rendering quality while maintaining scalable, block-parallel training. Our models, training code, and dataset are publicly available.

PanoImager: Geometry-Guided Novel View Synthesis and Reconstruction from Sparse Panoramic Views

Panoramic sensing offers wide field-of-view coverage, yet 3D reconstruction from sparse panoramas remains challenging under rotation-dominant, weak-parallax motion. In such regimes, SfM/SLAM initialization is often ill-conditioned and unreliable. We present PanoImager, an SfM-free framework that combines feed-forward pose/depth priors, geometry-conditioned diffusion view completion, and depth-guided 3DGS optimization. Given only a few panoramic images, PanoImager decomposes them into local perspective views, synthesizes auxiliary observations to enrich sparse evidence, and stabilizes Gaussian optimization for improved cross-view consistency. Experiments on multiple benchmarks show improved stability under extreme sparsity, suggesting PanoImager as an offline/background component for map refinement when SfM/SLAM fails to initialize.
