Local Culture
Local culture is a multifaceted concept increasingly investigated through the lens of artificial intelligence, aiming to understand how cultural nuances are represented and handled by large language models (LLMs) and other AI systems. Current research focuses on developing culturally sensitive evaluation benchmarks and adapting model architectures, such as LLMs and vision-language models (VLMs), to better reflect diverse cultural values and expressions using techniques like fine-tuning and data augmentation. This work is crucial for mitigating biases in AI systems and ensuring equitable access to technology across diverse populations, impacting both the development of more inclusive AI and the advancement of cross-cultural understanding.
