Undulatory Swimming

Undulatory swimming, the wave-like locomotion of limbless aquatic creatures, is a focus of bio-inspired robotics research aiming to create agile and efficient underwater robots. Current research emphasizes developing control algorithms, such as deep reinforcement learning and central pattern generators, to achieve complex maneuvers and efficient energy use in diverse aquatic environments, often incorporating biomimetic designs and materials. This work has implications for applications like search and rescue, deep-sea exploration, and sports analytics, as improved robotic designs and data analysis techniques enhance our understanding of aquatic locomotion and enable new technological capabilities.
