EEG Seizure Detection
EEG: Electroencephalography
Overview
EEG seizure detection studies how to recognize seizure activity, mark its onset and offset, and sometimes predict seizures before they begin from scalp or intracranial recordings. Methods range from handcrafted time- and frequency-domain features with classical classifiers to CNNs, recurrent networks, transformers, and graph models that capture relationships across channels; self-supervised pretraining and EEG-video or EEG-text fusion are also used. The goal is to detect events reliably despite noisy signals and severe class imbalance, while limiting false alarms and enabling practical, interpretable monitoring. A central challenge is generalizing across patients, hospitals, and recording setups: patient-specific adaptation can help, but performance under independent evaluation and real-world distribution shifts remains difficult to establish.
