Overview

Multi-source image fusion studies how to combine images of the same scene captured by different sensors, at different exposures or focus settings, or at different resolutions. Methods range from multiscale and frequency-based processing to CNNs, transformers, diffusion models, and self-supervised or unpaired learning; registration and degradation-aware processing help when inputs are misaligned or noisy. Applications include infrared-visible perception, multi-focus and HDR imaging, and hyperspectral or pansharpened remote sensing, with evaluation spanning image-quality metrics and downstream tasks such as detection, segmentation, and localization. A central challenge is balancing detail and spectral fidelity with semantic usefulness and robustness, especially when modalities disagree, data are scarce, or benchmark scores do not match human preferences.

Towards Comprehensive Real-Time Scene Understanding in Ophthalmic Surgery through Multimodal Image Fusion

Purpose: The integration of multimodal imaging into operating rooms paves the way for comprehensive surgical scene understanding. In ophthalmic surgery, by now, two complementary imaging modalities are available: operating microscope (OPMI) imaging and real-time intraoperative optical coherence tomography (iOCT). This first work toward temporal OPMI and iOCT feature fusion demonstrates the potential of multimodal image processing for multi-head prediction through the example of precise instrument tracking in vitreoretinal surgery. Methods: We propose a multimodal, temporal, real-time capable network architecture to perform joint instrument detection, keypoint localization, and tool-tissue distance estimation. Our network design integrates a cross-attention fusion module to merge OPMI and iOCT image features, which are efficiently extracted via a YoloNAS and a CNN encoder, respectively. Furthermore, a region-based recurrent module leverages temporal coherence. Results: Our experiments demonstrate reliable instrument localization and keypoint detection (95.79% mAP50) and show that the incorporation of iOCT significantly improves tool-tissue distance estimation, while achieving real-time processing rates of 22.5 ms per frame. Especially for close distances to the retina (below 1 mm), the distance estimation accuracy improved from 284 μmμm (OPMI only) to 33 μmμm (multimodal). Conclusion: Feature fusion of multimodal imaging can enhance multi-task prediction accuracy compared to single-modality processing and real-time processing performance can be achieved through tailored network design. While our results demonstrate the potential of multi-modal processing for image-guided vitreoretinal surgery, they also underline key challenges that motivate future research toward more reliable, consistent, and comprehensive surgical scene understanding.

Multi-Modal Image Fusion via Intervention-Stable Feature Learning

Multi-modal image fusion integrates complementary information from different modalities into a unified representation. Current methods predominantly optimize statistical correlations between modalities, often capturing dataset-induced spurious associations that degrade under distribution shifts. In this paper, we propose an intervention-based framework inspired by causal principles to identify robust cross-modal dependencies. Drawing insights from Pearl's causal hierarchy, we design three principled intervention strategies to probe different aspects of modal relationships: i) complementary masking with spatially disjoint perturbations tests whether modalities can genuinely compensate for each other's missing information, ii) random masking of identical regions identifies feature subsets that remain informative under partial observability, and iii) modality dropout evaluates the irreplaceable contribution of each modality. Based on these interventions, we introduce a Causal Feature Integrator (CFI) that learns to identify and prioritize intervention-stable features maintaining importance across different perturbation patterns through adaptive invariance gating, thereby capturing robust modal dependencies rather than spurious correlations. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves SOTA performance on both public benchmarks and downstream high-level vision tasks.

Beyond Strict Pairing: Arbitrarily Paired Training for High-Performance Infrared and Visible Image Fusion

Infrared and visible image fusion(IVIF) combines complementary modalities while preserving natural textures and salient thermal signatures. Existing solutions predominantly rely on extensive sets of rigidly aligned image pairs for training. However, acquiring such data is often impractical due to the costly and labour-intensive alignment process. Besides, maintaining a rigid pairing setting during training restricts the volume of cross-modal relationships, thereby limiting generalisation performance. To this end, this work challenges the necessity of Strictly Paired Training Paradigm (SPTP) by systematically investigating UnPaired and Arbitrarily Paired Training Paradigms (UPTP and APTP) for high-performance IVIF. We establish a theoretical objective of APTP, reflecting the complementary nature between UPTP and SPTP. More importantly, we develop a practical framework capable of significantly enriching cross-modal relationships even with severely limited and unaligned training data. To validate our propositions, three end-to-end lightweight baselines, alongside a set of innovative loss functions, are designed to cover three classic frameworks (CNN, Transformer, GAN). Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed APTP and UPTP are feasible and capable of training models on a severely limited and content-inconsistent infrared and visible dataset, achieving performance comparable to that of a dataset 100×\times larger in SPTP. This finding fundamentally alleviates the cost and difficulty of data collection while enhancing model robustness from the data perspective, delivering a feasible solution for IVIF studies. Unregistered Spectral Image Fusion: Unmixing, Adversarial Learning, and Recoverability

This paper addresses the fusion of a pair of spatially unregistered hyperspectral image (HSI) and multispectral image (MSI) covering roughly overlapping regions. HSIs offer high spectral but low spatial resolution, while MSIs provide the opposite. The goal is to integrate their complementary information to enhance both HSI spatial resolution and MSI spectral resolution. While hyperspectral-multispectral fusion (HMF) has been widely studied, the unregistered setting remains challenging. Many existing methods focus solely on MSI super-resolution, leaving HSI unchanged. Supervised deep learning approaches were proposed for HSI super-resolution, but rely on accurate training data, which is often unavailable. Moreover, theoretical analyses largely address the co-registered case, leaving unregistered HMF poorly understood. In this work, an unsupervised framework is proposed to simultaneously super-resolve both MSI and HSI. The method integrates coupled spectral unmixing for MSI super-resolution with latent-space adversarial learning for HSI super-resolution. Theoretical guarantees on the recoverability of the super-resolution MSI and HSI are established under reasonable generative models -- providing, to our best knowledge, the first such insights for unregistered HMF. The approach is validated on semi-real and real HSI-MSI pairs across diverse conditions.

ReDiffuse: Rotation Equivariant Diffusion Model for Multi-focus Image Fusion

Diffusion models have achieved impressive performance on multi-focus image fusion (MFIF). However, a key challenge in applying diffusion models to the ill-posed MFIF problem is that defocus blur can make common symmetric geometric structures (e.g., textures and edges) appear warped and deformed, often leading to unexpected artifacts in the fused images. Therefore, embedding rotation equivariance into diffusion networks is essential, as it enables the fusion results to faithfully preserve the original orientation and structural consistency of geometric patterns underlying the input images. Motivated by this, we propose ReDiffuse, a rotation-equivariant diffusion model for MFIF. Specifically, we carefully construct the basic diffusion architectures to achieve end-to-end rotation equivariance. We also provide a rigorous theoretical analysis to evaluate its intrinsic equivariance error, demonstrating the validity of embedding equivariance structures. ReDiffuse is comprehensively evaluated against various MFIF methods across four datasets (Lytro, MFFW, MFI-WHU, and Road-MF). Results demonstrate that ReDiffuse achieves competitive performance, with improvements of 0.28-6.64% across six evaluation metrics. The code is available at https://github.com/MorvanLi/ReDiffuse.

Lean Learning Beyond Clouds: Efficient Discrepancy-Conditioned Optical-SAR Fusion for Semantic Segmentation

Cloud occlusion severely degrades the semantic integrity of optical remote sensing imagery. While incorporating Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) provides complementary observations, achieving efficient global modeling and reliable cross-modal fusion under cloud interference remains challenging. Existing methods rely on dense global attention to capture long-range dependencies, yet such aggregation indiscriminately propagates cloud-induced noise. Improving robustness typically entails enlarging model capacity, which further increases computational overhead. Given the large-scale and high-resolution nature of remote sensing applications, such computational demands hinder practical deployment, leading to an efficiency-reliability trade-off. To address this dilemma, we propose EDC, an efficiency-oriented and discrepancy-conditioned optical-SAR semantic segmentation framework. A tri-stream encoder with Carrier Tokens enables compact global context modeling with reduced complexity. To prevent noise contamination, we introduce a Discrepancy-Conditioned Hybrid Fusion (DCHF) mechanism that selectively suppresses unreliable regions during global aggregation. In addition, an auxiliary cloud removal branch with teacher-guided distillation enhances semantic consistency under occlusion. Extensive experiments demonstrate that EDC achieves superior accuracy and efficiency, improving mIoU by 0.56% and 0.88% on M3M-CR and WHU-OPT-SAR, respectively, while reducing the number of parameters by 46.7% and accelerating inference by 1.98×\times. Our implementation is available at https://github.com/mengcx0209/EDC.

MM-OVSeg:Multimodal Optical-SAR Fusion for Open-Vocabulary Segmentation in Remote Sensing

Open-vocabulary segmentation enables pixel-level recognition from an open set of textual categories, allowing generalization beyond fixed classes. Despite great potential in remote sensing, progress in this area remains largely limited to clear-sky optical data and struggles under cloudy or haze-contaminated conditions. We present MM-OVSeg, a multimodal Optical-SAR fusion framework for resilient open-vocabulary segmentation under adverse weather conditions. MM-OVSeg leverages the complementary strengths of the two modalities--optical imagery provides rich spectral semantics, while synthetic aperture radar (SAR) offers cloud-penetrating structural cues. To address the cross-modal domain gap and the limited dense prediction capability of current vision-language models, we propose two key designs: a cross-modal unification process for multi-sensor representation alignment, and a dual-encoder fusion module that integrates hierarchical features from multiple vision foundation models for text-aligned multimodal segmentation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MM-OVSeg achieves superior robustness and generalization across diverse cloud conditions. The source dataset and code are available at https://github.com/Jimmyxichen/MM-OVSeg.

EPOFusion: Exposure aware Progressive Optimization Method for Infrared and Visible Image Fusion

Overexposure caused by strong daylight and oncoming headlights frequently overwhelms visible sensors, resulting in critical information loss in visual perception. Infrared and visible image fusion can compensate for such degradation via multimodal complementarity. However, most fusion methods lack region-aware optimization for overexposed areas and cannot effectively exploit infrared cues in saturated regions, resulting in insufficient infrared detail preservation or redundant information in the fused results. To address this, we propose EPOFusion, an exposure-aware fusion framework. It employs a spatial guidance module to identify regions requiring infrared compensation, together with a region-aware fusion loss to strengthen informative infrared structures. In addition, an iterative feature refinement head equipped with a multiscale context fusion module progressively refines fused representations, enabling effective integration of complementary infrared information while maintaining visual consistency in normally exposed regions. The infrared and visible overexposure (IVOE) dataset consists of a synthetic training subset providing infrared-compensation supervision and a real-world subset for fusion and downstream perception evaluation under authentic overexposure. EPOFusion demonstrates superior VIF and QAB/FQ^{AB/F} performance with favorable visual quality, improving QAB/FQ^{AB/F} by 10.7% over the existing overexposure-oriented fusion baseline, while further improving downstream mIoU and mAP50 by 5.6% and 6.5%, respectively. Code, results, and the IVOE dataset will be made available at https://warren-wzw.github.io/EPOFusion/.

PAKAN: Pixel Adaptive Kolmogorov-Arnold Network Modules for Pansharpening

Pansharpening aims to fuse high-resolution spatial details from panchromatic images with the rich spectral information of multispectral images. Existing deep neural networks for this task typically rely on static activation functions, which limit their ability to dynamically model the complex, non-linear mappings required for optimal spatial-spectral fusion. While the recently introduced Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (KAN) utilizes learnable activation functions, traditional KANs lack dynamic adaptability during inference. To address this limitation, we propose a Pixel Adaptive Kolmogorov-Arnold Network framework. Starting from KAN, we design two adaptive variants: a 2D Adaptive KAN that generates spline summation weights across spatial dimensions and a 1D Adaptive KAN that generates them across spectral channels. These two components are then assembled into PAKAN 2to1 for feature fusion and PAKAN 1to1 for feature refinement. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed modules significantly enhance network performance, proving the effectiveness and superiority of pixel-adaptive activation in pansharpening tasks.

Pansharpening for Thin-Cloud Contaminated Remote Sensing Images: A Unified Framework and Benchmark Dataset

Pansharpening under thin cloudy conditions is a practically significant yet rarely addressed task, challenged by simultaneous spatial resolution degradation and cloud-induced spectral distortions. Existing methods often address cloud removal and pansharpening sequentially, leading to cumulative errors and suboptimal performance due to the lack of joint degradation modeling. To address these challenges, we propose a Unified Pansharpening Model with Thin Cloud Removal (Pan-TCR), an end-to-end framework that integrates physical priors. Motivated by theoretical analysis in the frequency domain, we design a frequency-decoupled restoration (FDR) block that disentangles the restoration of multispectral image (MSI) features into amplitude and phase components, each guided by complementary degradation-robust prompts: the near-infrared (NIR) band amplitude for cloud-resilient restoration, and the panchromatic (PAN) phase for high-resolution structural enhancement. To ensure coherence between the two components, we further introduce an interactive inter-frequency consistency (IFC) module, enabling cross-modal refinement that enforces consistency and robustness across frequency cues. Furthermore, we introduce the first real-world thin-cloud contaminated pansharpening dataset (PanTCR-GF2), comprising paired clean and cloudy PAN-MSI images, to enable robust benchmarking under realistic conditions. Extensive experiments on real-world and synthetic datasets demonstrate the superiority and robustness of Pan-TCR, establishing a new benchmark for pansharpening under realistic atmospheric degradations.

UniFusion: A Unified Image Fusion Framework with Robust Representation and Source-Aware Preservation

Image fusion aims to integrate complementary information from multiple source images to produce a more informative and visually consistent representation, benefiting both human perception and downstream vision tasks. Despite recent progress, most existing fusion methods are designed for specific tasks (i.e., multi-modal, multi-exposure, or multi-focus fusion) and struggle to effectively preserve source information during the fusion process. This limitation primarily arises from task-specific architectures and the degradation of source information caused by deep-layer propagation. To overcome these issues, we propose UniFusion, a unified image fusion framework designed to achieve cross-task generalization. First, leveraging DINOv3 for modality-consistent feature extraction, UniFusion establishes a shared semantic space for diverse inputs. Second, to preserve the understanding of each source image, we introduce a reconstruction-alignment loss to maintain consistency between fused outputs and inputs. Finally, we employ a bilevel optimization strategy to decouple and jointly optimize reconstruction and fusion objectives, effectively balancing their coupling relationship and ensuring smooth convergence. Extensive experiments across multiple fusion tasks demonstrate UniFusion's superior visual quality, generalization ability, and adaptability to real-world scenarios. Missing No More: Dictionary-Guided Cross-Modal Image Fusion under Missing Infrared

Infrared-visible (IR-VIS) image fusion is vital for perception and security, yet most methods rely on the availability of both modalities during training and inference. When the infrared modality is absent, pixel-space generative substitutes become hard to control and inherently lack interpretability. We address missing-IR fusion by proposing a dictionary-guided, coefficient-domain framework built upon a shared convolutional dictionary. The pipeline comprises three key components: (1) Joint Shared-dictionary Representation Learning (JSRL) learns a unified and interpretable atom space shared by both IR and VIS modalities; (2) VIS-Guided IR Inference (VGII) transfers VIS coefficients to pseudo-IR coefficients in the coefficient domain and performs a one-step closed-loop refinement guided by a frozen large language model as a weak semantic prior; and (3) Adaptive Fusion via Representation Inference (AFRI) merges VIS structures and inferred IR cues at the atom level through window attention and convolutional mixing, followed by reconstruction with the shared dictionary. This encode-transfer-fuse-reconstruct pipeline avoids uncontrolled pixel-space generation while ensuring prior preservation within interpretable dictionary-coefficient representation. Experiments under missing-IR settings demonstrate consistent improvements in perceptual quality and downstream detection performance. To our knowledge, this represents the first framework that jointly learns a shared dictionary and performs coefficient-domain inference-fusion to tackle missing-IR fusion. Enhancing Unregistered Hyperspectral Image Super-Resolution via Unmixing-based Abundance Fusion Learning

Unregistered hyperspectral image (HSI) super-resolution (SR) typically aims to enhance a low-resolution HSI using an unregistered high-resolution reference image. In this paper, we propose an unmixing-based fusion framework that decouples spatial-spectral information to simultaneously mitigate the impact of unregistered fusion and enhance the learnability of SR models. Specifically, we first utilize singular value decomposition for initial spectral unmixing, preserving the original endmembers while dedicating the subsequent network to enhancing the initial abundance map. To leverage the spatial texture of the unregistered reference, we introduce a coarse-to-fine deformable aggregation module, which first estimates a pixel-level flow and a similarity map using a coarse pyramid predictor. It further performs fine sub-pixel refinement to achieve deformable aggregation of the reference features. The aggregative features are then refined via a series of spatial-channel abundance cross-attention blocks. Furthermore, a spatial-channel modulated fusion module is presented to merge encoder-decoder features using dynamic gating weights, yielding a high-quality, high-resolution HSI. Experimental results on simulated and real datasets confirm that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art super-resolution performance. The code will be available at https://github.com/yingkai-zhang/UAFL.

Fusion Complexity Is Not Fusion Quality: Backbone, Cross View Fusion and Metadata as Separate Factors in Pasture Biomass Regression

Estimating pasture biomass from field images can support grazing decisions without repeated destructive sampling. The task remains difficult because available datasets are small, biomass components are imbalanced and a single photograph contains two spatially distinct views of the sampled quadrat. This work evaluates vision foundation models for five target pasture biomass regression on the 357 image CSIRO dataset. Across 25 model configurations, the analysis covers convolutional and self supervised transformer backbones, seven cross view fusion configurations, models with and without 23 metadata features, classical regressors and frozen foundation features. All comparisons use one locked five fold split and raw scale weighted R^2. DINOv3 Large with cross view gated attention gives the strongest verified single model result, 0.8338 +/- 0.0503 across folds. Under a matched gated depthwise convolution head, replacing DINOv2 Large with DINOv3 Large improves R^2 by 0.0372. Fusion results are not ordered by module complexity. Cross view gated attention is best, while a full Mamba fusion block reaches only 0.7930. Across four matched DINOv3 pathways, metadata narrows the score range from 0.0157 to 0.0013 while changing the mean by only +0.0034. It improves three weaker pathways but lowers the strongest attention model by 0.0061. Classical metadata models are strong, frozen DINOv3 features are linearly useful and Dry Dead biomass remains the hardest target. These results show that backbone choice, cross view interaction and metadata must be tested as separate factors on small agricultural datasets.

Inter-Image Pixel Shuffling for Multi-focus Image Fusion

Multi-focus image fusion aims to combine multiple partially focused images into a single all-in-focus image. Although deep learning has shown promise in this task, its effectiveness is often limited by the scarcity of suitable training data. This paper introduces Inter-image Pixel Shuffling (IPS), a novel method that allows neural networks to learn multi-focus image fusion without requiring actual multi-focus images. IPS reformulates the task as a pixel-wise classification problem, where the goal is to identify the focused pixel from a pixel group at each spatial position. In this method, pixels from a clear optical image are treated as focused, while pixels from a low-pass filtered version of the same image are considered defocused. By randomly shuffling the focused and defocused pixels at identical spatial positions in the original and filtered images, IPS generates training data that preserves spatial structure while mixing focus-defocus information. The model is trained to select the focused pixel from each spatially aligned pixel group, thus learning to reconstruct an all-in-focus image by aggregating sharp content from the input. To further enhance fusion quality, IPS adopts a cross-image fusion network that integrates the localized representation power of convolutional neural networks with the long-range modeling capabilities of state space models. This design effectively leverages both spatial detail and contextual information to produce high-quality fused results. Experimental results indicate that IPS significantly outperforms existing multi-focus image fusion methods, even without training on multi-focus images.

Bridging Human Evaluation to Infrared and Visible Image Fusion

Infrared and visible image fusion (IVIF) integrates complementary modalities to enhance scene perception. Current methods predominantly focus on optimizing handcrafted losses and objective metrics, often resulting in fusion outcomes that do not align with human visual preferences. This challenge is further exacerbated by the ill-posed nature of IVIF, which severely limits its effectiveness in human perceptual environments such as security surveillance and driver assistance systems. To address these limitations, we propose a feedback reinforcement framework that bridges human evaluation to infrared and visible image fusion. To address the lack of human-centric evaluation metrics and data, we introduce the first large-scale human feedback dataset for IVIF, containing multidimensional subjective scores and artifact annotations, and enriched by a fine-tuned large language model with expert review. Based on this dataset, we design a domain-specific reward function and train a reward model to quantify perceptual quality. Guided by this reward, we fine-tune the fusion network through Group Relative Policy Optimization, achieving state-of-the-art performance that better aligns fused images with human aesthetics. Universal Pansharpening Model

Pansharpening generates the high-resolution multi-spectral (MS) image by integrating spatial details from a texture-rich panchromatic (PAN) image and spectral attributes from a low-resolution MS image. Existing methods are predominantly satellite-specific and scene-dependent, which severely limits their generalization across heterogeneous sensors and varied scenes, thereby reducing their real-world practicality. To address these challenges, we present UniPS, a universal pansharpening model for satellite-agnostic and scene-robust fusion. Specifically, we introduce a modality-interleaved transformer that learns band-wise modal specializations to form reversible spectral affine bases, mapping arbitrary-band MS into a unified latent space via tensor multiplication. Building upon this, we construct a latent diffusion bridge model to progressively evolve latent representations, and incorporate bridge posterior sampling to couple latent diffusion with pixel-space observations, enabling stable and controllable fusion. Furthermore, we devise infinite-dimensional pixel-to-latent interaction mechanisms to comprehensively capture the cross-domain dependencies between PAN observations and MS representations, thereby facilitating complementary information fusion. In addition, to support large-scale training and evaluation, we construct a comprehensive pansharpening benchmark, termed PSBench, consisting of worldwide MS and PAN image pairs from multiple satellites across diverse scenes. Extensive experiments verify that UniPS consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods, exhibiting superior generalization and robustness across a wide range of tasks.

Cross-Scale Pansharpening via ScaleFormer and the PanScale Benchmark

Pansharpening aims to generate high-resolution multi-spectral images by fusing the spatial detail of panchromatic images with the spectral richness of low-resolution MS data. However, most existing methods are evaluated under limited, low-resolution settings, limiting their generalization to real-world, high-resolution scenarios. To bridge this gap, we systematically investigate the data, algorithmic, and computational challenges of cross-scale pansharpening. We first introduce PanScale, the first large-scale, cross-scale pansharpening dataset, accompanied by PanScale-Bench, a comprehensive benchmark for evaluating generalization across varying resolutions and scales. To realize scale generalization, we propose ScaleFormer, a novel architecture designed for multi-scale pansharpening. ScaleFormer reframes generalization across image resolutions as generalization across sequence lengths: it tokenizes images into patch sequences of the same resolution but variable length proportional to image scale. A Scale-Aware Patchify module enables training for such variations from fixed-size crops. ScaleFormer then decouples intra-patch spatial feature learning from inter-patch sequential dependency modeling, incorporating Rotary Positional Encoding to enhance extrapolation to unseen scales. Extensive experiments show that our approach outperforms SOTA methods in fusion quality and cross-scale generalization. The datasets and source code are available at https://github.com/caoke-963/ScaleFormer.

High Dynamic Range Imaging Based on an Asymmetric Event-SVE Camera System

High dynamic range (HDR) imaging under extreme illumination remains challenging for conventional cameras due to overexposure. Event cameras provide microsecond temporal resolution and high dynamic range, while spatially varying exposure (SVE) sensors offer single-shot radiometric diversity. We present a hardware--algorithm co-designed HDR imaging system that tightly integrates an SVE micro-attenuation camera with an event sensor in an asymmetric dual-modality configuration. To handle non-coaxial geometry and heterogeneous optics, we develop a two-stage cross-modal alignment framework that combines feature-guided coarse homography estimation with a multi-scale refinement module based on spatial pooling and frequency-domain filtering. On top of aligned representations, we develop a cross-modal HDR reconstruction network with convolutional fusion, mutual-information regularization, and a learnable fusion loss that adaptively balances intensity cues and event-derived structural constraints. Comprehensive experiments on both synthetic benchmarks and real captures demonstrate that the proposed system consistently improves highlight recovery, edge fidelity, and robustness compared with frame-only or event-only HDR pipelines. The results indicate that jointly optimizing optical design, cross-modal alignment, and computational fusion provides an effective foundation for reliable HDR perception in highly dynamic and radiometrically challenging environments.

Hybrid Fusion: One-Minute Efficient Training for Zero-Shot Cross-Domain Image Fusion

Image fusion seeks to integrate complementary information from multiple sources into a single, superior image. While traditional methods are fast, they lack adaptability and performance. Conversely, deep learning approaches achieve state-of-the-art (SOTA) results but suffer from critical inefficiencies: their reliance on slow, resource-intensive, patch-based training introduces a significant gap with full-resolution inference. We propose a novel hybrid framework that resolves this trade-off. Our method utilizes a learnable U-Net to generate a dynamic guidance map that directs a classic, fixed Laplacian pyramid fusion kernel. This decoupling of policy learning from pixel synthesis enables remarkably efficient full-resolution training, eliminating the train-inference gap. Consequently, our model achieves SOTA-comparable performance in about one minute on a RTX 4090 or two minutes on a consumer laptop GPU from scratch without any external model and demonstrates powerful zero-shot generalization across diverse tasks, from infrared-visible to medical imaging. By design, the fused output is linearly constructed solely from source information, ensuring high faithfulness for critical applications. The codes are available at https://github.com/Zirconium233/HybridFusion
