Open-Vocabulary 3D Segmentation

Overview

The field studies how to identify and segment objects, parts, and regions in 3D scenes using free-form language rather than a fixed set of labels, enabling applications such as robotic navigation and object interaction. Common approaches lift features from pretrained 2D vision-language and segmentation models into point clouds, voxel maps, NeRFs, or 3D Gaussian splats, then fuse evidence across views; other methods learn feed-forward 3D representations or use geometric and relational reasoning. Systems are evaluated on indoor benchmarks such as ScanNet, Replica, and LERF-OVS, as well as outdoor LiDAR datasets such as nuScenes and SemanticKITTI. A central tension is making predictions spatially and temporally consistent despite noisy 2D cues and incomplete views, while keeping maps compact and inference fast enough for real-time use and generalizing beyond familiar scenes.

InstanceSplat: Instance-Aware Feed-Forward 3D Gaussian Splatting for Scene Understanding

Feed-forward 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) enables efficient and generalizable 3D reconstruction, but current feed-forward 3DGS methods for scene understanding remain largely category-oriented. In contrast, instance-aware 3DGS methods typically rely on per-scene optimization and often decouple reconstruction from instance and semantic learning, limiting reciprocal interactions among them. We present InstanceSplat, a unified feed-forward 3DGS framework for generalizable 3D reconstruction and instance-aware scene understanding from pose-free multi-view images. In a single forward pass, InstanceSplat constructs an instance-aware Gaussian representation that jointly encodes appearance, geometry, instance identity, and language-aligned semantics. Shared 3D Gaussians ground instance identities across views, producing renderable and cross-view-consistent instance features. To allow reconstruction and scene understanding to benefit from each other, we further design an instance-centric learning strategy that connects reconstruction, instance learning, and semantic learning through shared instance structure. Specifically, instance cues guide reconstruction, language-aligned semantics strengthen the discrimination of confusing same-category instances, and instance regions aggregate semantic evidence into coherent object-level predictions. Experiments on novel-view synthesis, instance segmentation, and open-vocabulary semantic understanding under varying input-view settings and on an unseen dataset demonstrate state-of-the-art performance, practical efficiency, and strong generalization.

Prior-SG: Task and Prior Driven Region Segmentation for Scene Graphs in Arbitrarily-Structured Environments

Hierarchical 3D scene graphs are a promising representation for high-level spatial reasoning in autonomous mobile platforms. However, existing extraction frameworks typically rely on purely local visual clustering or strict geometric heuristics, such as wall-separated rooms, which fail in open-plan or arbitrarily-structured environments. We propose Prior-SG, a task- and prior-driven framework that casts scene graph generation fundamentally as a probabilistic alignment problem. As the robot explores, it continuously aggregates an incoming RGB-D sensor stream into a physically grounded Instance Graph utilizing a multi-scale, open-vocabulary feature fusion strategy. The system then infers the high-level functional semantics of this map through a Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) estimate, guided by a Prior Graph-a logical expectation of the environment's structure and task-relevant vocabulary synthesized dynamically by a Large Language Model. By optimizing a Markov Random Field that fuses heterogeneous experts (visual, geometric, and discrete objects) with these topological priors, the system resolves local perceptual ambiguities. We validate this approach across diverse simulated residential datasets and large, open-plan real-world environments. Prior-SG achieves state-of-the-art semantic region segmentation accuracy compared to recent baselines, robustly delineates distant functional boundaries in the absence of physical walls, and uniquely provides zero-shot ontological flexibility, enabling the robot to entirely restructure its spatial partitioning based on a given high-level task.

OutLangSplat: 3D Language Gaussian Splatting for UAV Outdoor Scenes

3D Language Gaussian Splatting embeds open-vocabulary language features into 3D Gaussian Splatting, providing an efficient explicit representation for text-driven 3D scene understanding. However, existing methods are limited to indoor or small-scale scenes, and tend to fail in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) outdoor scenes, where severe occlusions and long distance viewpoints often lead to incorrect semantic activations and missing target responses. In this paper, we present OutLangSplat which adapts language Gaussian representations to UAV outdoor scenes by improving feature representation and aggregation reliability. For the feature representation, a 2D-3D dual-branch representation with region-based alignment and fusion is designed to improve spatial consistency, reducing incomplete target responses and background misactivations. For the feature aggregation, we introduce a training-free contribution and consistency-aware Gaussian feature aggregation strategy that leverages pixel contribution reliability and cross-view semantic consistency to suppress unreliable responses from noisy viewpoints. A new dataset is provided by manually annotating various objects on four real-world public UAV outdoor scene datasets. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first accessible dataset of open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding for UAV outdoor scenes. Quantitative evaluations and ablation studies demonstrate that OutLangSplat outperforms SOTA methods on both open-vocabulary semantic segmentation and instance localization tasks. The datasets and codes will be open-sourced.

MonoVoc: Decoupling Geometry and Semantics for Lightweight Monocular Open-Vocabulary 3D Gaussians

Open vocabulary 3D scene understanding is essential for next-generation interactive systems, empowering users to intuitively query and navigate reconstructed environments using natural language. However, current 3D Gaussian frameworks are often bottlenecked by restrictive multiview capture requirements, costly scene-specific optimization, and the massive memory overhead of storing dense language features. We present a novel, training-free pipeline that fundamentally reimagines this paradigm by explicitly decoupling 3D geometric reconstruction from semantic integration. Given a standard monocular video sequence as input, our method efficiently outputs a compact, highly interpretable, and fully searchable object-level semantic Gaussian map. Rather than entangling heavy language embeddings within the mapping loop, we extract geometry independently and ground semantics through a lightweight, modular post-processing framework. Extensive evaluations on the Replica dataset demonstrate that this decoupled architecture preserves strong rendering fidelity and competitive segmentation accuracy. Crucially, by replacing dense per-Gaussian storage with modular, object-level semantic embeddings, our approach delivers an order-of-magnitude reduction in memory usage compared to SOTA baselines. This provides a highly efficient, scalable, and practical solution for open-vocabulary 3D retrieval and question answering directly from everyday monocular video.

ZeroSplat: Generalized Referring Segmentation in 3D Gaussian Splatting

Recent advancements in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) have enabled language-guided scene understanding. However, existing Referring 3D Gaussian Splatting (R3DGS) methods are fundamentally restricted to single-target queries. To reflect the ambiguity of real-world instructions, we introduce the Generalized Referring 3D Gaussian Splatting Segmentation (GR3DGS) task, which requires dynamically segmenting an arbitrary number of targets (0, 1, or NN). To facilitate comprehensive evaluation of this new task, we construct two new benchmarks: GR-LERF and GR-ScanNet. Crucially, existing R3DGS paradigms exhibit fundamental technical bottlenecks that severely limit their performance on the GR3DGS task: they lack intrinsic 3D point-level understanding by operating merely on 2D rendered pixels, and they incur prohibitive computational overhead by requiring per-scene optimization to embed heavy semantic features. To dismantle these bottlenecks, we propose ZeroSplat, a novel training-free and zero-feature framework. ZeroSplat lifts 2D Vision-Language Model (VLM) priors into 3D space through robust multi-view geometric constraints. This strategy enables intrinsic point-level understanding without incurring any additional feature storage. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ZeroSplat significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods across generalized and single-target scenarios while maintaining exceptional efficiency. Beyond Isolated Objects: Relationship-aware Open Vocabulary Scene Understanding via 3D Scene Graph Analysis

Open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding aims to segment 3D scenes beyond predefined categories by transferring semantic knowledge from vision-language models. Existing methods have advanced this task by lifting language-aligned 2D features into 3D, yet they often rely on context-independent semantic representations, leaving object relationships underexplored for contextual refinement. We propose RelGraphOV, a relationship-aware framework that uses 3D scene graphs to enhance open-vocabulary 3D understanding. Our method constructs relational scene graphs from multi-view observations by leveraging vision-language reasoning to infer object relationships and prune geometrically implausible connections, without manual relationship annotations. To aggregate relational context while avoiding feature interference, we introduce an Adaptive Gated Dual-Stream Contextual GAT that separates dense geometric features and semantic CLIP embeddings, performs edge-guided message passing, and adaptively fuses complementary semantics. A hierarchical contrastive objective further promotes instance-level consistency and category-level discrimination. Experiments on ScanNetV2, ScanNet200, ScanNet++++, and Replica demonstrate strong performance and generalization ability. Project Page: https://cxavireh.github.io/relgraphov-projectpage

VLRC: Vision-Language Reprojection Consistency as a scalable signal for better feed-forward 3D pretraining

Feed-forward 3D models are commonly trained using either expensive geometric supervision or self-supervised photometric objectives, both of which provide incomplete learning signals. We introduce Vision-Language Reprojection Consistency (VLRC), a scalable auxiliary objective that exploits frozen vision-language representations as semantic multi-view supervision. Given a predicted 3D reconstruction, VLRC reprojects dense vision-language features across views and enforces feature consistency between corresponding image locations, requiring no additional 3D annotations. The objective integrates seamlessly with both self-supervised monocular reconstruction and supervised-pretrained feed-forward 3D models during unlabeled adaptation. By aligning geometry with language-grounded features, VLRC not only improves depth and camera estimation but also enables more coherent multi-view semantic fusion for open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding. Experiments on indoor and outdoor benchmarks demonstrate consistent gains in 3D reconstruction accuracy and zero-shot open-vocabulary 3D semantic segmentation.

Bridging 3D Gaussians and Semantic Occupancy for Comprehensive Open-Vocabulary Scene Understanding from Unposed Images

Comprehensive 3D scene understanding from sparse, unposed images requires a model to recover renderable geometry, open-vocabulary semantics, and free/occupied 3D space without relying on external camera calibration. Recent feed-forward Gaussian methods improve pose-free reconstruction and semantic rendering, but their Gaussian primitives are mainly optimized through image-space objectives and remain weakly constrained in unobserved regions. We propose COVScene, a pose-free semantic Gaussian framework that couples renderable Gaussian primitives with a dense semantic occupancy field through differentiable volumetric lifting. Instead of converting Gaussians to voxels only at evaluation time, COVScene lifts the predicted semantic Gaussians inside the training computation graph, so volumetric regularization provides gradients to Gaussian opacity, geometry, and semantic features. The framework combines a semantic-aware Geometry Transformer, multi-task Gaussian decoding, geometric foundation distillation, and occupancy entropy regularization to support novel view synthesis, open-vocabulary semantic querying, and semantic occupancy prediction within a single representation. Experiments on ScanNet and ScanNet++ show that COVScene maintains competitive rendering quality, improves open-vocabulary segmentation, and achieves stronger semantic occupancy prediction than the self-supervised baseline without direct voxel-level supervision.

Relation-Centric Open-Vocabulary 3D Gaussian Segmentation

Open-vocabulary 3D Gaussian segmentation is challenging because it requires language understanding for diverse queries and accurate separation of Gaussians along object boundaries. Prior approaches either embed language knowledge into individual Gaussians to improve query responsiveness or optimize per-Gaussian instance features to encode object identity. However, these strategies may produce noisy Gaussian segmentations or rely on cost-inefficient per-scene optimization. We propose PairGS, a framework that reframes Gaussian segmentation as modeling pairwise relations between Gaussians. 3D Gaussian representations provide rich signals for relation estimation, such as view contribution weights and multi-view mask evidence. By leveraging these cues, PairGS explicitly constructs a relation graph for segmentation without a heavy optimization process. PairGS first proposes sparse edge candidates using low-dimensional descriptors, computes precise pairwise affinities only on those candidates, and builds a hierarchical cluster tree for multi-granular querying. It achieves state-of-the-art results on open-vocabulary 3D Gaussian segmentation benchmarks, while the fast variant is 50x faster than optimization-based instance-feature approaches.

Depth-Only Open-Vocabulary 3D Semantic Segmentation For Privacy-Preserving Robotic Applications

Privacy-preserving perception is increasingly important for robotic systems operating in real-world indoor environments, yet it remains underexplored in open-vocabulary 3D semantic segmentation. We study this problem under an RGB-prohibited deployment setting motivated by scene-specific visual information disclosure, where real RGB observations are unavailable during scene acquisition and fusion. To reflect this deployment constraint on existing 3D datasets, we adopt a stricter depth-only evaluation protocol that re-runs scene fusion without RGB and exposes only the resulting depth-derived geometry to the segmentation pipeline. This constraint removes appearance cues that are often critical for open-vocabulary recognition, making depth-only predictions more uncertain and less reliable. To address this challenge, we propose UTTO, a model-agnostic uncertainty-guided test-time optimization framework that uses structured predictive uncertainty as a reliability signal to refine predictions from frozen open-vocabulary 3D backbones. Experiments across ScanNet and Matterport3D demonstrate consistent improvements over multiple depth-only backbones. Privacy recoverability analyses and a real-robot semantic goal grounding case study further support the proposed privacy-constrained setting and applicability.

MV-GEL: Language-Driven Multi-View Geometric Entity Localization on Meshes

Identifying and grounding precise geometric entities, such as edges, planar regions, and curved surfaces within 3D objects, is foundational to computer-aided design (CAD), robotic manipulation, and scientific simulation. Although modern Vision Language Models (VLMs) have advanced referring segmentation (RIS) in the image domain, extending such language-driven localization to structured 3D geometry is substantially harder. The 3D object appearance is highly sensitive to viewpoints; a single perspective may render a target entity clearly observable, while another may suffer from severe occlusion or foreshortening. In this work, we attempt to solve these challenges with MV-GEL (Multi-View Geometric Entity Localization), a framework for localizing fine-grained geometric entities on polygon meshes from natural language queries. Our key insight is that reliable CAD entity (i.e., faces, edges or solids) localization depends on selecting views that make the queried entity maximally interpretable. We introduce GELviews, a prompt-conditioned ranking module that prioritizes viewpoints based on language prompted observability of geometric CAD entities. Selected views are processed by a VLM-based reasoning segmentation backbone, and predicted masks are lifted to the corresponding meshes via geometry-aware ray casting. Our framework is completely CAD agnostic and relies only on 3D meshes. Experiments show up to a 1.7X improvement in face-level IoU and over 4.5X gains in edge-level F1 compared to vanilla baselines, substantially outperforming CLIP-based and random view sampling, particularly for thin and view-sensitive structures. The dataset, code and trained checkpoints are available at https://github.com/kbali1297/MV-GEL.

Think While You Map: Asynchronous Vision-Language Agents for Incremental 3D Scene Graphs

Open-vocabulary 3D scene graph methods typically operate in two stages: first reconstruct, then enrich with vision-language models, leaving the graph unqueryable during exploration. We argue that this sequential coupling is unnecessary and propose an asynchronous architecture in which lightweight online mapping runs concurrently with heavyweight semantic refinement. A probabilistic voxel-based backbone maintains stable object identities incrementally, while background VLM agents progressively enrich the graph. This framework resolves duplicate object tracks through semantic loop closure, attaches fine-grained visual attributes and derives spatial relations between objects. A multi-target frame scheduler amortizes VLM cost by selecting a small set of informative frames that jointly cover multiple targets. The resulting scene graph is queryable during exploration and grows in semantic richness over time. Our method matches or outperforms existing open-vocabulary 3D scene graph methods on semantic segmentation (ScanNet, Replica) and surpasses the prior state-of-the-art across three visual grounding benchmarks (Sr3D+, Nr3D, ScanRefer) by 15.3 to 18.8 [email protected]. Open-Vocabulary and Referring Segmentation for 3D Gaussians Using 2D Detectors

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged at the forefront of 3D scene reconstruction. Extending 3DGS with language-driven, open-vocabulary understanding has gained significant attention for real-world applications such as embodied AI. Recent methods achieve this by learning an instance feature attribute and assigning semantics by distilling high-dimensional Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP) features directly into the scene representation. However, the instance grouping mechanisms of these methods either require a predefined number of instances or suffer from noise in their bottom-up grouping strategies. Furthermore, the reliance on CLIP restricts semantic understanding to simple noun phrases, preventing complex spatial reasoning and referential expression grounding. We present GaussDet, a method that circumvents the need for dense CLIP features by leveraging discrete, open-vocabulary 2D object detectors with referring expression capabilities. We learn instance features for individual Gaussians to decompose the scene into 3D instance groups. By rendering these groups and aggregating semantic votes from multi-view 2D detections, we generate a robust View-Aggregated Semantic Label Distribution (VASD) for each 3D instance. This view-aggregation strategy acts as a strong regularizer, attenuating spurious labels caused by low-quality instance grouping. Our approach enables a straightforward, zero-shot extension from simple language queries to complex referential grounding. Extensive evaluations across two key tasks -- open-vocabulary segmentation (LeRF-OVS, ScanNet) and referring expression grounding (Ref-LeRF) -- demonstrate that GaussDet achieves consistent improvements over existing methods. Most notably, we achieve a substantial 16.7% mIoU improvement in referential grounding within a strict zero-shot setting.

SAD-GS: Learning Reliable 3D Semantic Gaussian Fields via Dynamic Geo-Semantic Anchoring

Open-vocabulary 3D semantic Gaussian field learning relies on multi-view 2D supervision, whose semantic targets and spatial assignments are often unreliable. Across varying viewpoints, view-dependent features cause semantic identity drift, while propagated tracker masks introduce boundary leakage and identity switches. Directly optimizing against these unreliable 2D targets forces the 3D representation to absorb multi-view contradictions, leading to severe error accumulation. To resolve this limitation, we propose SAD-GS, a framework for learning reliable 3D semantic Gaussian fields via dynamic geo-semantic anchoring. Specifically, Semantic Anchor Distillation (SAD) distills per-view visual embeddings into consensus text anchors to establish a viewpoint-invariant semantic identity. Concurrently, the Geo-Semantic Feedback Loop (GSFL) leverages the evolving 3D field to actively filter tracker anomalies and refine spatial mask assignments via a conservative three-gate update rule. Extensive evaluations on LERF-OVS, 3D-OVS, and Mip-NeRF360 show that SAD-GS consistently achieves the best overall performance in both open-vocabulary localization and semantic segmentation. These comprehensive improvements validate the effectiveness and robustness of dynamic geo-semantic anchoring for reliable 3D semantic Gaussian field learning.

EPS3D: End-to-End Feed-Forward 3D Panoptic Segmentation

This paper introduces EPS3D, a new end-to-end feed-forward framework for open-vocabulary 3D panoptic segmentation. Unlike existing methods relying on additional preprocessing, we design an end-to-end architecture, with a distillation-based training strategy on diverse 3D scenes to predict 3D-aware semantic and instance features from multi-view images, improving 3D consistency and avoiding error accumulation. We further propose a mutual enhancement module to enforce inherent semantic-instance consistency. By aligning semantics within instances (Ins2Sem) and refining instance features with semantic guidance (Sem2Ins), we achieve more coherent 3D scene understanding. Ultimately, EPS3D outperforms SOTA baselines on two benchmarks (e.g., +13% mIoU for semantics on Replica) with high efficiency (e.g., 1s per scene), supporting tasks like robotic manipulation and 3D scene editing.

GVC-Seg: Training-Free 3D Instance Segmentation via Geometric Visual Correspondence

Accurate 3D instance segmentation in point cloud data is critical for machine vision applications. Recent advancements leverage multiple pre-trained foundation models to generate 3D proposals, followed by the application of proposal aggregation methods, which significantly enhance performance. However, they often produce sub-optimal results due to inherent variations in confidence levels across different segmentation models, resulting in a bias toward the model with higher confidence. This bias is inherently model-dependent and is influenced by factors such as data preprocessing techniques and training strategies. To address this bias, we propose a novel, training-free 3D instance segmentation approach via Geometric Visual Correspondence (GVC-Seg), which exploits the correspondence between 3D geometric cues and 2D visual cues to mitigate the confidence bias. Additionally, a 3D proposal generation module and a mask-aware CLIP feature extraction module are introduced during the instance mask generation and instance semantic reasoning, respectively. In this way, GVC-Seg enhances proposal quality assessment, ensuring unbiased ensemble learning across different models. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on several challenging benchmarks, while also exhibiting strong potential in open-vocabulary semantic segmentation settings.

T-FunS3D: Task-Driven Hierarchical Open-Vocabulary 3D Functionality Segmentation

Open-vocabulary 3D functionality segmentation enables robots to localize functional object components in 3D scenes. It is a challenging task that requires spatial understanding and task interpretation. Current open-vocabulary 3D segmentation methods primarily focus on object-level recognition, while scene-wide part segmentation methods attempt to segment the entire scene exhaustively, making them highly resource-intensive and time consuming. Balancing segmentation performance in terms of granularity, accuracy, and speed remains a challenge. As one step towards alleviating this, we introduce T-FunS3D, a task-driven hierarchical open-vocabulary 3D functionality segmentation method that provides actionable perception for robotic applications. Our method takes as input the 3D point cloud and posed RGB-D images of an indoor scene. We construct an open-vocabulary scene graph by extracting instances and their visual embeddings in the environment. Given a task description, T-FunS3D identifies the most relevant instances in the scene graph and locates their functional components leveraging a vision-language model. Experiments on the SceneFun3D dataset demonstrate that T-FunS3D is comparable to state-of-the-art in open-vocabulary 3D functionality segmentation, while achieving faster runtime and reduced memory usage.

MLP Splatting: Object-Centric Neural Fields

3D representations are fundamental for scene rendering, understanding, and interaction. Approaches like Neural Radiation Fields and 3D Gaussian Splatting achieve impressive photorealistic novel-view synthesis, but lack the ability to easily decompose scene elements into object level, requiring additional segmentation or grouping. We present MLP-Splatting, a method that enables scene decomposition via a few expressive light-field primitives while providing photorealistic novel-view synthesis. MLP-Splatting models each primitive as an independent compact MLP with localized spatial support that predicts radiance and opacity. In contrast to low-level Gaussian primitives or a single global radiance field, our neural primitives provide greater expressive capacity while remaining spatially localized. Rendering is performed through efficient sparse volumetric compositing over ray-primitive interactions. Our primitives are supervised using RGB supervision alone, which yields primitives that represent local scene regions often corresponding to objects or object parts, enabling interactive object-level editing without segmentation masks by selecting a handful of primitives. Our method, augmented with optional semantic feature distillation, enables open-vocabulary scene interaction and open-set instant segmentation. Compared to state-of-the-art semantic 3DGS methods, we achieve substantially lower memory usage (1/7×\times) and faster rendering (5×\times). Project Page: https://shinjeongkim.com/mlp-splatting

GeoSAM-3D: Geodesic Prompt Propagation for Open-Vocabulary 3D Scene Segmentation from Monocular Video

Open-vocabulary 3D scene segmentation usually assumes RGB-D video, calibrated multi-view imagery, or a reconstructed mesh. GeoSAM-3D studies a lighter setting: a user uploads a short monocular video, clicks or names an object in one frame, and receives a propagated 3D mask over a Gaussian scene. The implementation combines frozen image and video foundation models with a monocular 3D Gaussian Splatting reconstruction and a differentiable graph-geodesic propagation kernel over Gaussian centroids. The central design choice is to propagate prompts by heat-kernel distance on the reconstructed scene graph, rather than by Euclidean nearest neighbors in 3D. This preserves continuity around curved surfaces and reduces leakage across nearby but disconnected objects. This paper describes the repository state, the mathematical kernel implemented in geosam3d.propagate, the feature head trained from Segment Anything masks, and the validation already present in the codebase. The evaluation protocol separates implementation validation, graph propagation quality, leakage control, and interactive latency.

DGSG-Mind: Dynamic 3D Gaussian Scene Graphs for Long-Term Scene Understanding and Grounding

Integrating open-vocabulary semantic information into dynamic 3D scene representations is essential for long-term embodied scene understanding. However, existing methods often suffer from fragile instance association due to incomplete cross-view cues, while their limited ability to handle object-level topological changes restricts long-term robotic task execution. Moreover, current 3D scene understanding methods either rely on simple feature matching without explicit spatial reasoning or assume offline ground-truth 3D geometry. To address these challenges, we present DGSG-Mind, a hybrid instance-aware 3D Gaussian dynamic scene graph system with an embodied reasoning agent. Our system couples a probabilistic voxel grid with explicit 3D Gaussians to enable robust cross-modal instance fusion and incremental semantic mapping. It handles dynamic changes through Gaussian-based visual relocalization and localized masked refinement guided by geometric-semantic consistency. Built on the instance Gaussian map, DGSG-Mind further constructs a hierarchical scene graph and develops the 3D Gaussian Mind, which integrates structural relations, spatial-semantic information, and visually annotated RoI Gaussian renderings for multimodal reasoning. Extensive experiments show that DGSG-Mind achieves the best zero-shot 3DVG performance among methods operating on self-reconstructed maps, while also delivering strong performance in 3D open-vocabulary semantic segmentation and scene reconstruction. We further deploy DGSG-Mind on real-world robots to demonstrate its target-oriented reasoning and dynamic update capabilities. TrackRef3D: Multi-View Consistent Track-then-Label for Open-World Referring Segmentation in 3D Gaussian Splatting

Referring 3D Gaussian Splatting (R3DGS), which utilizes natural language for 3D object segmentation, has emerged as a crucial capability for embodied AI. However, existing methods typically rely on expensive per-scene manual annotation and per-view pseudo mask generation, which suffer from multi-view inconsistency and poor generalization to varying query specificities. To address this, we present TrackRef3D, a fully automatic pipeline that achieves open-world referring segmentation in 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) without manual annotation by introducing a multi-view consistent track-then-label paradigm that fundamentally decouples object discovery from semantic grounding. Specifically, we propose a Trajectory-Aware Semantic Consensus Module (TSCM) which aggregates cross-view predictions via synonymous clustering and trajectory-aware voting to establish a canonical semantic identity, thereby ensuring multi-view consistency. Furthermore, we employ a visibility-aware description generation strategy to mitigate ambiguity and propose a Hybrid Training Strategy (HTS) that jointly optimizes coarse category semantics and fine-grained referential cues to ensure robustness under varying query specificities using a multi-positive contrastive objective. Extensive experiments on benchmarks demonstrate that TrackRef3D achieves state-of-the-art performance.

OP2GS: Object-Aware 3D Gaussian Splatting with Dual-Opacity Primitives

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) provides an explicit and efficient scene representation, but its primitives lack inherent object-level identity, hindering downstream tasks such as open-vocabulary scene understanding. Existing methods typically address this by either distilling high-dimensional feature embeddings into Gaussians or by lifting 2D mask labels into 3D via heuristic refinement. However, feature-based approaches incur heavy storage and decoding overhead, while lifting-based pipelines remain vulnerable to label contamination: Gaussians necessary for appearance reconstruction often receive incorrect object labels during 2D-to-3D projection. We propose OP2GS, an object-aware Gaussian representation that augments each primitive with an explicit instance identity and a dedicated instance opacity σ∗σ^{*} for object-mask rendering. The original opacity σσ remains responsible for visual reconstruction, while σ∗σ^{*} models whether a Gaussian should contribute to a particular object mask. This dual-opacity formulation decouples visual existence from instance occupancy: mislabeled Gaussians can remain available for image rendering while becoming transparent in the object-mask branch. To learn this representation, we introduce a random object loss that optimizes the 1D instance occupancy field using the standard transmittance-based visibility of 3DGS. Semantic descriptors are then attached at the object level through multi-view aggregation, eliminating per-Gaussian feature storage. Compared with feature-training approaches, OP2GS achieves competitive open-vocabulary performance while significantly reducing computational overhead. Compared with training-free pipelines, it leverages physically consistent occupancy learning to resolve visibility ambiguities.

OpenGaFF: Open-Vocabulary Gaussian Feature Field with Codebook Attention

Understanding open-vocabulary 3D scenes with Gaussian-based representations remains challenging due to fragmented and spatially inconsistent semantic predictions across multi-view observations. In this paper, we present OpenGaFF, a novel framework for open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding built upon 3D Gaussian Splatting. At the core of our method is a Gaussian Feature Field that models semantics as a continuous function of Gaussian geometry and appearance. By explicitly conditioning semantic predictions on geometric structure, this formulation strengthens the coupling between geometry and semantics, leading to improved spatial coherence across similar structures in 3D space. To further enforce object-level semantic consistency, we introduce a structured codebook that serves as a set of shared semantic primitives. Furthermore, a codebook-guided attention mechanism is proposed to retrieve language features via similarity matching between query embeddings and learned codebook entries, enabling robust open-vocabulary reasoning while reducing intra-object feature variance. Extensive experiments on standard 2D and 3D open-vocabulary benchmarks demonstrate that our method consistently outperforms prior approaches, achieving improved segmentation quality, stronger 3D semantic consistency and a semantically interpretable codebook that provides insight into the learned representation.

Ilov3Splat: Instance-Level Open-Vocabulary 3D Scene Understanding in Gaussian Splatting

We introduce Ilov3Splat, a novel framework for instance-level open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding built on 3D Gaussian Splatting (3D-GS). Most prior work depends on 2D rendering-based matching or point-level semantic association, which undermines cross-view consistency, lacks coherent instance-level reasoning, and limits precision in downstream 3D tasks. To address these limitations, our method jointly optimizes scene geometry and semantic representations by augmenting Gaussian splats with view-consistent feature fields. Specifically, we leverage multi-resolution hash embedding to efficiently encode language-aligned CLIP features, enabling dense and coherent language grounding in 3D space. We further train an instance feature field using contrastive loss over SAM masks, supporting fine-grained object distinction across views. At inference time, CLIP-encoded queries are matched against the learned features, followed by two-stage 3D clustering to retrieve relevant Gaussian groups. This enables our framework to identify arbitrary objects in 3D scenes based on natural language descriptions, without requiring category supervision or manual annotations. Experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate that Ilov3Splat outperforms prior open-vocabulary 3D-GS methods in both object selection and instance segmentation, offering a flexible and accurate solution for language-driven 3D scene understanding. FUS3DMaps: Scalable and Accurate Open-Vocabulary Semantic Mapping by 3D Fusion of Voxel- and Instance-Level Layers

Open-vocabulary semantic mapping enables robots to spatially ground previously unseen concepts without requiring predefined class sets. Current training-free methods commonly rely on multi-view fusion of semantic embeddings into a 3D map, either at the instance-level via segmenting views and encoding image crops of segments, or by projecting image patch embeddings directly into a dense semantic map. The latter approach sidesteps segmentation and 2D-to-3D instance association by operating on full uncropped image frames, but existing methods remain limited in scalability. We present FUS3DMaps, an online dual-layer semantic mapping method that jointly maintains both dense and instance-level open-vocabulary layers within a shared voxel map. This design enables further voxel-level semantic fusion of the layer embeddings, combining the complementary strengths of both semantic mapping approaches. We find that our proposed semantic cross-layer fusion approach improves the quality of both the instance-level and dense layers, while also enabling a scalable and highly accurate instance-level map where the dense layer and cross-layer fusion are restricted to a spatial sliding window. Experiments on established 3D semantic segmentation benchmarks as well as a selection of large-scale scenes show that FUS3DMaps achieves accurate open-vocabulary semantic mapping at multi-story building scales. Cross-Attentive Multiview Fusion of Vision-Language Embeddings

Vision-language models have been key to the development of open-vocabulary 2D semantic segmentation. Lifting these models from 2D images to 3D scenes, however, remains a challenging problem. Existing approaches typically back-project and average 2D descriptors across views, or heuristically select a single representative one, often resulting in suboptimal 3D representations. In this work, we introduce a novel multiview transformer architecture that cross-attends across vision-language descriptors from multiple viewpoints and fuses them into a unified per-3D-instance embedding. As a second contribution, we leverage multiview consistency as a self-supervision signal for this fusion, which significantly improves performance when added to a standard supervised target-class loss. Our Cross-Attentive Multiview Fusion, which we denote with its acronym CAMFusion, not only consistently outperforms naive averaging or single-view descriptor selection, but also achieves state-of-the-art results on 3D semantic and instance classification benchmarks, including zero-shot evaluations on out-of-domain datasets.

Fast-SegSim: Real-Time Open-Vocabulary Segmentation for Robotics in Simulation

Open-vocabulary panoptic reconstruction is crucial for advanced robotics and simulation. However, existing 3D reconstruction methods, such as NeRF or Gaussian Splatting variants, often struggle to achieve the real-time inference frequency required by robotic control loops. Existing methods incur prohibitive latency when processing the high-dimensional features required for robust open-vocabulary segmentation. We propose Fast-SegSim, a novel, simple, and end-to-end framework built upon 2D Gaussian Splatting, designed to realize real-time, high-fidelity, and 3D-consistent open-vocabulary segmentation reconstruction. Our core contribution is a highly optimized rendering pipeline that specifically addresses the computational bottleneck of high-channel segmentation feature accumulation. We introduce two key optimizations: Precise Tile Intersection to reduce rasterization redundancy, and a novel Top-K Hard Selection strategy. This strategy leverages the geometric sparsity inherent in the 2D Gaussian representation to greatly simplify feature accumulation and alleviate bandwidth limitations, achieving render rates exceeding 40 FPS. Fast-SegSim provides critical value in robotic applications: it serves both as a high-frequency sensor input for simulation platforms like Gazebo, and its 3D-consistent outputs provide essential multi-view 'ground truth' labels for fine-tuning downstream perception tasks. We demonstrate this utility by using the generated labels to fine-tune the perception module in object goal navigation, successfully doubling the navigation success rate. Our superior rendering speed and practical utility underscore Fast-SegSim's potential to bridge the sim-to-real gap.

FF3R: Feedforward Feature 3D Reconstruction from Unconstrained views

Recent advances in vision foundation models have revolutionized geometry reconstruction and semantic understanding. Yet, most of the existing approaches treat these capabilities in isolation, leading to redundant pipelines and compounded errors. This paper introduces FF3R, a fully annotation-free feed-forward framework that unifies geometric and semantic reasoning from unconstrained multi-view image sequences. Unlike previous methods, FF3R does not require camera poses, depth maps, or semantic labels, relying solely on rendering supervision for RGB and feature maps, establishing a scalable paradigm for unified 3D reasoning. In addition, we address two critical challenges in feedforward feature reconstruction pipelines, namely global semantic inconsistency and local structural inconsistency, through two key innovations: (i) a Token-wise Fusion Module that enriches geometry tokens with semantic context via cross-attention, and (ii) a Semantic-Geometry Mutual Boosting mechanism combining geometry-guided feature warping for global consistency with semantic-aware voxelization for local coherence. Extensive experiments on ScanNet and DL3DV-10K demonstrate FF3R's superior performance in novel-view synthesis, open-vocabulary semantic segmentation, and depth estimation, with strong generalization to in-the-wild scenarios, paving the way for embodied intelligence systems that demand both spatial and semantic understanding.

Director: Instance-aware Gaussian Splatting for Dynamic Scene Modeling and Understanding

Volumetric video seeks to model dynamic scenes as temporally coherent 4D representations. While recent Gaussian-based approaches achieve impressive rendering fidelity, they primarily emphasize appearance but are largely agnostic to instance-level structure, limiting stable tracking and semantic reasoning in highly dynamic scenarios. In this paper, we present Director, a unified spatio-temporal Gaussian representation that jointly models human performance, high-fidelity rendering, and instance-level semantics. Our key insight is that embedding instance-consistent semantics naturally complements 4D modeling, enabling more accurate scene decomposition while supporting robust dynamic scene understanding. To this end, we leverage temporally aligned instance masks and sentence embeddings derived from Multimodal Large Language Models to supervise the learnable semantic features of each Gaussian via two MLP decoders, enabling language-aligned 4D representations and enforcing identity consistency over time. To enhance temporal stability, we bridge 2D optical flow with 4D Gaussians and finetune their motions, yielding reliable initialization and reducing drift. For the training, we further introduce a geometry-aware SDF constraints, along with regularization terms that enforces surface continuity, enhancing temporal coherence in dynamic foreground modeling. Experiments demonstrate that Director achieves temporally coherent 4D reconstructions while simultaneously enabling instance segmentation and open-vocabulary querying.

IGLOSS: Image Generation for Lidar Open-vocabulary Semantic Segmentation

This paper presents a new method for the zero-shot open-vocabulary semantic segmentation (OVSS) of 3D automotive lidar data. To circumvent the recognized image-text modality gap that is intrinsic to approaches based on Vision Language Models (VLMs) such as CLIP, our method relies instead on image generation from text, to create prototype images. Given a 3D network distilled from a 2D Vision Foundation Model (VFM), we then label a point cloud by matching 3D point features with 2D image features of these prototypes. Our method is state-of-the-art for OVSS on nuScenes and SemanticKITTI. Code, pre-trained models and generated images are available at https://github.com/valeoai/IGLOSS.
