Lang3DSeg: Annotation-Free Open-Vocabulary 3D Segmentation with Point Transformers

Accurate 3D semantic perception is critical for safe autonomous navigation. However, supervised LiDAR segmentation remains tied to closed taxonomies and to the cost of point-wise manual annotation. Open-vocabulary methods avoid that cost by projecting the output of 2D vision-language models onto LiDAR and distilling it into a 3D network. These methods rely almost exclusively on voxel-based sparse convolutions, and point transformers have so far been limited to indoor environments, where 3D data is dense and bounded. We present Lang3DSeg, which establishes a point transformer as the backbone for annotation-free open-vocabulary segmentation of outdoor 3D LiDAR, and is trained from scratch without geometric pre-training. This training paradigm necessitates addressing the inherent noise in 2D-to-3D label projections; specifically, naive projection often suffers from depth ambiguity, where points behind an object are erroneously assigned its semantic label. We therefore composite masks using an explicit class-priority rule and truncate each projected instance at the first gap in its depth distribution, correcting the projection error directly rather than averaging it over registered sequences. Lang3DSeg achieves 52.8% mIoU on nuScenes validation and 41.4% on SemanticKITTI, the highest among published annotation-free methods on both benchmarks. Every 3D semantic segmentation is on a single LiDAR sweep, and inference operates in real-time without running vision-language models.

EviSplat: Preserving Multi-View Evidence in 3D Gaussian Splatting for Open-Vocabulary Segmentation

Open-vocabulary 3D scene understanding enables object localization and segmentation from free-form text queries without a fixed category vocabulary. Many recent methods build on 3D Gaussian Splatting and consolidate multi-view observations, such as masked crops from individual views, into language features or compact object descriptors before the query is known. However, observations of the same object vary across viewpoints and are not equally informative: some reveal cues relevant to a particular query, whereas others provide incomplete or misleading evidence. Pre-query consolidation can therefore suppress cues on which a later query depends. We introduce EviSplat, which preserves individual observation features as evidence for later text queries. EviSplat retains individual observation features within class-agnostic 3D instances that represent objects, object parts, or background regions. It also learns, for each Gaussian, a distribution describing which visual appearances its observations support. Given a text query, EviSplat scores each instance using its most relevant observations. It then computes a score for each Gaussian by combining instance-level relevance with locally supported evidence, weighted by how often and how unambiguously that Gaussian was observed. Different queries can thus draw on different visual cues from the same preserved evidence. Experiments across diverse datasets and evaluation protocols demonstrate state-of-the-art performance, supporting the benefit of preserving multi-view evidence until query time and aggregating it according to the query.

SplatLabel: Pseudo-Labelling through 4D Gaussian Splatting

While 2D Vision Foundation Models offer a pathway to automate 3D semantic pseudo-labelling, translating these priors into robust 3D representations typically requires complex heuristics or multi-model ensembles. We introduce SplatLabel, an automated pipeline that leverages a 4D Gaussian representation to extract LiDAR segmentation with predictive confidence, as well as semantic occupancy grids at arbitrary voxel resolutions. At its core, SplatLabel handles dynamic environments through an explicit temporal manifold that models the trajectories and lifespans of individual 3D primitives. This allows the system to accurately track moving actors and strictly define when objects appear and disappear, completely eliminating the need for pre-annotated 3D bounding boxes. To robustly support this dynamic tracking, the representation is grounded by structural and semantic priors: we guide scene geometry in unobserved regions by integrating 360-degree LiDAR via virtual depth maps, and rather than relying on domain-specific prompt engineering, we directly distill continuous soft probabilities from 2D models to inherently resolve semantic ambiguities over time and space. Finally, to accurately reflect the real-world trade-off between precision and recall, we reframe pseudo-label evaluation as a selective classification task using a generalized risk-recall metric. Experiments on SemanticKITTI demonstrate that SplatLabel consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines across multiple recall levels, establishing a highly robust framework for both 3D LiDAR segmentation and occupancy prediction.

Hybrid Gaussians for Robust Open-Vocabulary 3D Segmentation with Multi-View Object Association and Boundary Refinement

Open-vocabulary 3D segmentation localizes objects from free-form text queries, but remains challenging in real image sequences: incomplete or noisy 2D supervision destabilizes multi-view identity assignment, while full-scene semantic learning weakens object-level discriminability. We introduce Hybrid Gaussians, a unified 3D representation jointly modeling object association and language-aligned semantics. Its Multi-View Object Association mechanism combines Observation Fusion and Semantic Contrastive Learning to improve identity consistency and semantic discrimination. Boundary Reconstruction Optimization further refines local boundary structure to improve contour quality. Experiments on LERF and 3D-OVS demonstrate strong quantitative and qualitative performance. Our method achieves 59.1% mIoU on LERF, yielding a 13.4% relative gain over the baseline. Project page: https://nora202.github.io/hybridgaussians.

SenseFuse: Label-Free Fusion of Image and Shape Encoders for Open-Vocabulary 3D Instance Segmentation

Open-vocabulary scene understanding is fundamental for robotics, laying the groundwork for spatial reasoning and object manipulation. While closed-vocabulary 3D instance segmentation heavily leverages 3D shape information, state-of-the-art open-vocabulary methods remain predominantly restricted to 2D image features or image-distilled representations during mask labeling. In this paper, we propose SenseFuse, a label-free fusion method that balances 2D image and 3D shape encoders for robust open-vocabulary 3D instance segmentation, refining only the mask-labeling stage of existing pipelines. We reveal that 2D image and 3D shape encoders exhibit largely disjoint failure patterns and rarely share identical wrong labels, whereas two 2D image encoders frequently repeat the same errors. This distinct behavior makes the 2D and 3D pair inherently complementary. We introduce an adaptive mechanism that selects a scene-level fusion weight to maximize a label-free sensitivity measure, estimated directly from a single scene's unlabeled proposals in milliseconds. SenseFuse improves labeling accuracy in every evaluated setting across ScanNet200, Replica, and ScanNet++, recovering 67-100% (median 93%) of the gain achievable with an oracle weight, and it raises instance AP in 21 of 22 reported settings. Code is available at https://github.com/hanes1207/SenseFuse.

UniPart: Towards Zero-shot Language-Grounded 3D Part Segmentation for Embodied Interaction

Fine-grained robotic manipulation depends on understanding parts, not only whole objects. Existing 3D foundation models tend to be either generalized but object-aware, or part-aware but limited to closed-set taxonomies, which weakens zero-shot transfer. We study text-conditioned 3D part segmentation, where a free-form phrase selects a functional part on point cloud. We introduce UniPart, a feed-forward cross-modal 3D Transformer that conditions CLIP text embedding. To scale supervision, we build LangPart-1M with 160K+ Objaverse assets and 8M text to part pairs using multi-view consistent part generation. We further manually label a high-quality subset, LangPart-4K, for fine-tuning and evaluation. UniPart achieves strong zero-shot results on open-vocabulary part benchmarks and transfers to language-conditioned part grasping in real world.

VOIM: Training-Free Open-Vocabulary 3D Instance Mapping for RGB-D and Monocular SLAM

We present Voxel-Grounded Online Instance Manager (VOIM), a training-free voxel-grounded instance manager that builds open-vocabulary 3D instance maps from RGB-D or from monocular RGB alone, a regime no prior training-free system addresses. Online systems typically segment object instances and label them at first detection, committing when evidence is weakest. VOIM instead defers label and instance decisions until soft evidence from unmodified, off-the-shelf perception has accumulated per voxel across views. We show that the mapping stage, rather than the particular perception models, carries the result: across four perception configurations on ScanNet++, varying the region descriptor, the detector label prior and the mask source, the map exceeds the strongest online RGB-D system, OVO-SLAM, by between 4.8 and 11.7 mIoU. Perception is not neutral, and substituting that baseline's own descriptor family costs 4.1 of the margin, yet the baseline carries the marginally better 2D descriptor (33.7 vs. 31.5 mIoU over three scenes) and still realizes the weaker map. Under a like-for-like protocol VOIM reaches 44.07 mIoU on ScanNet++ against 32.37, winning all ten scenes and both aggregations (pooled 33.31 vs. 25.97), and the same system runs unchanged to fully monocular RGB, matching that baseline pooled on Replica (27.80 vs. 27.50). The advantage is regime-specific: under Replica's all-classes scoring, matched inputs give a split result, 28.60 vs. 27.50 pooled against 24.59 vs. 30.11 on the per-scene mean. Room scale is label-limited and building scale drift-limited. Labeling does not run in real time, dominated by per-class detection over the full vocabulary. The maps export occupancy grids and resolve free-form queries to object instances.

LEGO: Leveled Language Gaussian Splatting

We introduce LEGO for advanced open-vocabulary scene understanding. Beyond basic concept recognition, its core innovation lies in capturing the intrinsic semantic hierarchies within the scene, such as the "flowerpot -> bouquet -> bud -> petal" lineage. While foundation models like SAM can identify multi-granular structures in 2D, their partitions are strictly perspective-bound and lack cross-view consensus. LEGO self-adaptively re-grades volatile multi-view SAM granularities into a unified, 3D-consistent hierarchy. This provides precise supervision for the structurally coherent, multi-level segmentation of 3D scenes. By grounding these segments with CLIP embeddings, LEGO recovers open-vocabulary semantic logic across hierarchical levels. Furthermore, by incorporating spatial relationships, we elevate these segments into level-wise language scene graphs, effectively empowering Large Language Models to perform complex, context-aware spatial reasoning and precise visual grounding. Experimental results demonstrate that LEGO establishes new state-of-the-art performance across both promptable and open-vocabulary 3D segmentation benchmarks, exhibiting advanced hierarchical scene decomposition and context-aware spatial reasoning.

Prior-SG: Task and Prior Driven Region Segmentation for Scene Graphs in Arbitrarily-Structured Environments

Hierarchical 3D scene graphs are a promising representation for high-level spatial reasoning in autonomous mobile platforms. However, existing extraction frameworks typically rely on purely local visual clustering or strict geometric heuristics, such as wall-separated rooms, which fail in open-plan or arbitrarily-structured environments. We propose Prior-SG, a task- and prior-driven framework that casts scene graph generation fundamentally as a probabilistic alignment problem. As the robot explores, it continuously aggregates an incoming RGB-D sensor stream into a physically grounded Instance Graph utilizing a multi-scale, open-vocabulary feature fusion strategy. The system then infers the high-level functional semantics of this map through a Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) estimate, guided by a Prior Graph-a logical expectation of the environment's structure and task-relevant vocabulary synthesized dynamically by a Large Language Model. By optimizing a Markov Random Field that fuses heterogeneous experts (visual, geometric, and discrete objects) with these topological priors, the system resolves local perceptual ambiguities. We validate this approach across diverse simulated residential datasets and large, open-plan real-world environments. Prior-SG achieves state-of-the-art semantic region segmentation accuracy compared to recent baselines, robustly delineates distant functional boundaries in the absence of physical walls, and uniquely provides zero-shot ontological flexibility, enabling the robot to entirely restructure its spatial partitioning based on a given high-level task.

Group-wise Supervision with Focal-Dice Loss for Long-Tailed Indoor Semantic Occupancy Prediction

Recently, 3D semantic occupancy prediction has garnered increasing attention for understanding the indoor scene. However, unlike structured outdoor environments, indoor scenes feature a high diversity of object categories that exhibit a severe long-tailed distribution, which has become a core bottleneck limiting the performance of existing models. To tackle this challenge, we propose a novel method, Group-UFD Occ, based on hierarchical semantic supervision and synergistic loss optimization. At the architectural level, we introduce a fine-grained semantic grouping strategy and design multi-scale, parallel ``main-expert'' prediction heads to guide the model in efficiently learning tail-class features through deep regularization. At the optimization level, we introduce the Unified Focal-Dice (UFD) loss. This synergistic loss function dynamically focuses on hard samples at the per-voxel level. Meanwhile, it simultaneously optimizes the geometric integrity of predicted objects from a region-based perspective. We conducted experiments on the large-scale EmbodiedScan dataset. The results demonstrate that our method yields a relative improvement of 11.38% over the baseline, with substantial accuracy gains in several critical long-tailed categories.

CDIS: Cross-Dimensional Class-Agnostic 3D Instance Segmentation via 2D Mask Tracking and 3D-2D Projection Merging

Class-agnostic 3D instance segmentation is critical for robotic systems operating in unknown environments, enabling perception of previously unseen objects for reliable manipulation and navigation. Existing approaches typically project per-frame 2D instance masks into 3D and merge them, which often breaks object identities across time and yields fragmented 3D instances. We introduce Cross-Dimensional Class-Agnostic 3D Instance Segmentation (CDIS), a zero-shot framework that explicitly tracks 2D instance masks across frames and associates them with 3D superpoints, creating a feedback loop between 2D and 3D. This cross-dimensional reasoning links temporally stable 2D tracks with spatially coherent 3D regions, producing globally consistent 3D instance labels without any 3D-specific training. Experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that CDIS achieves higher accuracy and consistency than state-of-the-art zero-shot methods, while remaining efficient and scalable to diverse real-world environments.

Relation-Centric Open-Vocabulary 3D Gaussian Segmentation

Open-vocabulary 3D Gaussian segmentation is challenging because it requires language understanding for diverse queries and accurate separation of Gaussians along object boundaries. Prior approaches either embed language knowledge into individual Gaussians to improve query responsiveness or optimize per-Gaussian instance features to encode object identity. However, these strategies may produce noisy Gaussian segmentations or rely on cost-inefficient per-scene optimization. We propose PairGS, a framework that reframes Gaussian segmentation as modeling pairwise relations between Gaussians. 3D Gaussian representations provide rich signals for relation estimation, such as view contribution weights and multi-view mask evidence. By leveraging these cues, PairGS explicitly constructs a relation graph for segmentation without a heavy optimization process. PairGS first proposes sparse edge candidates using low-dimensional descriptors, computes precise pairwise affinities only on those candidates, and builds a hierarchical cluster tree for multi-granular querying. It achieves state-of-the-art results on open-vocabulary 3D Gaussian segmentation benchmarks, while the fast variant is 50x faster than optimization-based instance-feature approaches.

Depth-Only Open-Vocabulary 3D Semantic Segmentation For Privacy-Preserving Robotic Applications

Privacy-preserving perception is increasingly important for robotic systems operating in real-world indoor environments, yet it remains underexplored in open-vocabulary 3D semantic segmentation. We study this problem under an RGB-prohibited deployment setting motivated by scene-specific visual information disclosure, where real RGB observations are unavailable during scene acquisition and fusion. To reflect this deployment constraint on existing 3D datasets, we adopt a stricter depth-only evaluation protocol that re-runs scene fusion without RGB and exposes only the resulting depth-derived geometry to the segmentation pipeline. This constraint removes appearance cues that are often critical for open-vocabulary recognition, making depth-only predictions more uncertain and less reliable. To address this challenge, we propose UTTO, a model-agnostic uncertainty-guided test-time optimization framework that uses structured predictive uncertainty as a reliability signal to refine predictions from frozen open-vocabulary 3D backbones. Experiments across ScanNet and Matterport3D demonstrate consistent improvements over multiple depth-only backbones. Privacy recoverability analyses and a real-robot semantic goal grounding case study further support the proposed privacy-constrained setting and applicability.

Open-Vocabulary and Referring Segmentation for 3D Gaussians Using 2D Detectors

3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has emerged at the forefront of 3D scene reconstruction. Extending 3DGS with language-driven, open-vocabulary understanding has gained significant attention for real-world applications such as embodied AI. Recent methods achieve this by learning an instance feature attribute and assigning semantics by distilling high-dimensional Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining (CLIP) features directly into the scene representation. However, the instance grouping mechanisms of these methods either require a predefined number of instances or suffer from noise in their bottom-up grouping strategies. Furthermore, the reliance on CLIP restricts semantic understanding to simple noun phrases, preventing complex spatial reasoning and referential expression grounding. We present GaussDet, a method that circumvents the need for dense CLIP features by leveraging discrete, open-vocabulary 2D object detectors with referring expression capabilities. We learn instance features for individual Gaussians to decompose the scene into 3D instance groups. By rendering these groups and aggregating semantic votes from multi-view 2D detections, we generate a robust View-Aggregated Semantic Label Distribution (VASD) for each 3D instance. This view-aggregation strategy acts as a strong regularizer, attenuating spurious labels caused by low-quality instance grouping. Our approach enables a straightforward, zero-shot extension from simple language queries to complex referential grounding. Extensive evaluations across two key tasks -- open-vocabulary segmentation (LeRF-OVS, ScanNet) and referring expression grounding (Ref-LeRF) -- demonstrate that GaussDet achieves consistent improvements over existing methods. Most notably, we achieve a substantial 16.7% mIoU improvement in referential grounding within a strict zero-shot setting.

SAD-GS: Learning Reliable 3D Semantic Gaussian Fields via Dynamic Geo-Semantic Anchoring

Open-vocabulary 3D semantic Gaussian field learning relies on multi-view 2D supervision, whose semantic targets and spatial assignments are often unreliable. Across varying viewpoints, view-dependent features cause semantic identity drift, while propagated tracker masks introduce boundary leakage and identity switches. Directly optimizing against these unreliable 2D targets forces the 3D representation to absorb multi-view contradictions, leading to severe error accumulation. To resolve this limitation, we propose SAD-GS, a framework for learning reliable 3D semantic Gaussian fields via dynamic geo-semantic anchoring. Specifically, Semantic Anchor Distillation (SAD) distills per-view visual embeddings into consensus text anchors to establish a viewpoint-invariant semantic identity. Concurrently, the Geo-Semantic Feedback Loop (GSFL) leverages the evolving 3D field to actively filter tracker anomalies and refine spatial mask assignments via a conservative three-gate update rule. Extensive evaluations on LERF-OVS, 3D-OVS, and Mip-NeRF360 show that SAD-GS consistently achieves the best overall performance in both open-vocabulary localization and semantic segmentation. These comprehensive improvements validate the effectiveness and robustness of dynamic geo-semantic anchoring for reliable 3D semantic Gaussian field learning.

Open-Vocabulary BEV Segmentation with 3D-Aware Geometric Constraints

Bird's-eye view (BEV) perception fuses multi-camera images into a unified top-down representation for autonomous driving. Despite recent progress, state-of-the-art methods remain confined to closed-set scenarios, making them vulnerable to unpredictable real-world environments. In this work, we introduce open-vocabulary BEV segmentation (OVBS), which leverages vision-language models (VLMs) to recognize categories beyond the training set while maintaining precise BEV perception and real-time efficiency. A key challenge in OVBS lies in the 3D geometric inconsistency inherent in the ill-posed lifting of 2D VLM semantics into BEV. To address this, we propose OVBEVSeg, a geometry-aware OVBS framework that enhances efficient Gaussian splatting (GS)-based unprojection by leveraging robust 3D geometric constraints across three progressive stages: (1) 2D-to-BEV pseudo-labeling via reliable 3D projection for OV generalization; (2) joint 2D-BEV per-scene optimization with BEV structural constraints for 3D geometric consistency; and (3) 3D geometric distillation for online efficiency. On the nuScenes dataset, OVBEVSeg achieves state-of-the-art performance, outperforming closed-set methods by 15.3 mIoU on unseen categories. Remarkably, even with no novel-class ground-truth labels, it remains competitive with self- and semi-supervised baselines trained with up to 40% of ground-truth annotations. Furthermore, it achieves 2.5x faster inference with only 0.22x the memory consumption of projection-based methods. Project page: https://hchoi256.github.io/projects/ovbevseg/.

EPS3D: End-to-End Feed-Forward 3D Panoptic Segmentation

This paper introduces EPS3D, a new end-to-end feed-forward framework for open-vocabulary 3D panoptic segmentation. Unlike existing methods relying on additional preprocessing, we design an end-to-end architecture, with a distillation-based training strategy on diverse 3D scenes to predict 3D-aware semantic and instance features from multi-view images, improving 3D consistency and avoiding error accumulation. We further propose a mutual enhancement module to enforce inherent semantic-instance consistency. By aligning semantics within instances (Ins2Sem) and refining instance features with semantic guidance (Sem2Ins), we achieve more coherent 3D scene understanding. Ultimately, EPS3D outperforms SOTA baselines on two benchmarks (e.g., +13% mIoU for semantics on Replica) with high efficiency (e.g., 1s per scene), supporting tasks like robotic manipulation and 3D scene editing.

GVC-Seg: Training-Free 3D Instance Segmentation via Geometric Visual Correspondence

Accurate 3D instance segmentation in point cloud data is critical for machine vision applications. Recent advancements leverage multiple pre-trained foundation models to generate 3D proposals, followed by the application of proposal aggregation methods, which significantly enhance performance. However, they often produce sub-optimal results due to inherent variations in confidence levels across different segmentation models, resulting in a bias toward the model with higher confidence. This bias is inherently model-dependent and is influenced by factors such as data preprocessing techniques and training strategies. To address this bias, we propose a novel, training-free 3D instance segmentation approach via Geometric Visual Correspondence (GVC-Seg), which exploits the correspondence between 3D geometric cues and 2D visual cues to mitigate the confidence bias. Additionally, a 3D proposal generation module and a mask-aware CLIP feature extraction module are introduced during the instance mask generation and instance semantic reasoning, respectively. In this way, GVC-Seg enhances proposal quality assessment, ensuring unbiased ensemble learning across different models. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on several challenging benchmarks, while also exhibiting strong potential in open-vocabulary semantic segmentation settings.

T-FunS3D: Task-Driven Hierarchical Open-Vocabulary 3D Functionality Segmentation

Open-vocabulary 3D functionality segmentation enables robots to localize functional object components in 3D scenes. It is a challenging task that requires spatial understanding and task interpretation. Current open-vocabulary 3D segmentation methods primarily focus on object-level recognition, while scene-wide part segmentation methods attempt to segment the entire scene exhaustively, making them highly resource-intensive and time consuming. Balancing segmentation performance in terms of granularity, accuracy, and speed remains a challenge. As one step towards alleviating this, we introduce T-FunS3D, a task-driven hierarchical open-vocabulary 3D functionality segmentation method that provides actionable perception for robotic applications. Our method takes as input the 3D point cloud and posed RGB-D images of an indoor scene. We construct an open-vocabulary scene graph by extracting instances and their visual embeddings in the environment. Given a task description, T-FunS3D identifies the most relevant instances in the scene graph and locates their functional components leveraging a vision-language model. Experiments on the SceneFun3D dataset demonstrate that T-FunS3D is comparable to state-of-the-art in open-vocabulary 3D functionality segmentation, while achieving faster runtime and reduced memory usage.

GeoSAM-3D: Geodesic Prompt Propagation for Open-Vocabulary 3D Scene Segmentation from Monocular Video

Open-vocabulary 3D scene segmentation usually assumes RGB-D video, calibrated multi-view imagery, or a reconstructed mesh. GeoSAM-3D studies a lighter setting: a user uploads a short monocular video, clicks or names an object in one frame, and receives a propagated 3D mask over a Gaussian scene. The implementation combines frozen image and video foundation models with a monocular 3D Gaussian Splatting reconstruction and a differentiable graph-geodesic propagation kernel over Gaussian centroids. The central design choice is to propagate prompts by heat-kernel distance on the reconstructed scene graph, rather than by Euclidean nearest neighbors in 3D. This preserves continuity around curved surfaces and reduces leakage across nearby but disconnected objects. This paper describes the repository state, the mathematical kernel implemented in geosam3d.propagate, the feature head trained from Segment Anything masks, and the validation already present in the codebase. The evaluation protocol separates implementation validation, graph propagation quality, leakage control, and interactive latency.

GIBLy: Improving 3D Semantic Segmentation through an Architecture-Agnostic Lightweight Geometric Inductive Bias Layer

In 3D scene understanding, deep learning models rely on large models and extensive training to capture basic geometric structures that are present in the 3D data. However, existing methods lack explicit mechanisms to incorporate geometric information, such as learnable primitive shapes, often necessitating large models and more training data which in turn increases cost and can limit generalization. We introduce GIBLy, a lightweight geometric inductive bias layer that integrates learnable geometric priors into 3D segmentation pipelines. GIBLy enhances existing architectures -- whether MLP-based, convolution-based, or transformer-based -- by providing features aligned with simple geometric shapes (and thus human-interpretable) that improve segmentation performance with minimal computational overhead. We validate our approach across multiple 3D semantic segmentation benchmarks, demonstrating consistent performance gains, including up to +11.5% mIoU on TS40K with PTV3, while adding only 58K extra parameters. Our results highlight the benefit of explicitly encoding geometric structure to support accurate and efficient 3D scene understanding, with a lightweight add-on layer

FUS3DMaps: Scalable and Accurate Open-Vocabulary Semantic Mapping by 3D Fusion of Voxel- and Instance-Level Layers

Open-vocabulary semantic mapping enables robots to spatially ground previously unseen concepts without requiring predefined class sets. Current training-free methods commonly rely on multi-view fusion of semantic embeddings into a 3D map, either at the instance-level via segmenting views and encoding image crops of segments, or by projecting image patch embeddings directly into a dense semantic map. The latter approach sidesteps segmentation and 2D-to-3D instance association by operating on full uncropped image frames, but existing methods remain limited in scalability. We present FUS3DMaps, an online dual-layer semantic mapping method that jointly maintains both dense and instance-level open-vocabulary layers within a shared voxel map. This design enables further voxel-level semantic fusion of the layer embeddings, combining the complementary strengths of both semantic mapping approaches. We find that our proposed semantic cross-layer fusion approach improves the quality of both the instance-level and dense layers, while also enabling a scalable and highly accurate instance-level map where the dense layer and cross-layer fusion are restricted to a spatial sliding window. Experiments on established 3D semantic segmentation benchmarks as well as a selection of large-scale scenes show that FUS3DMaps achieves accurate open-vocabulary semantic mapping at multi-story building scales. SpaCeFormer: Fast Proposal-Free Open-Vocabulary 3D Instance Segmentation

Open-vocabulary 3D instance segmentation is a core capability for robotics and AR/VR, but prior methods trade one bottleneck for another: multi-stage 2D+3D pipelines aggregate foundation-model outputs at hundreds of seconds per scene, while pseudo-labeled end-to-end approaches rely on fragmented masks and external region proposals. We present SpaCeFormer, a proposal-free space-curve transformer that runs in 0.12--0.30 seconds per scene across standard benchmarks, 2--3 orders of magnitude faster than multi-stage 2D+3D pipelines. We pair it with SpaCeFormer-3M, the largest open-vocabulary 3D instance segmentation dataset (3.0M multi-view-consistent captions over 604K instances from 7.4K scenes) built through multi-view mask clustering and multi-view VLM captioning; it reaches 21×\times higher mask recall than prior single-view pipelines (54.3% vs 2.5% at IoU>>0.5). SpaCeFormer combines spatial window attention with Morton-curve serialization for spatially coherent features, and uses a RoPE-enhanced decoder to predict instance masks directly from learned queries without external proposals. On ScanNet200 we achieve 11.1 zero-shot mAP, a 2.8×\times improvement over the prior best proposal-free method; on ScanNet++ and Replica, we reach 22.9 and 24.1 mAP, surpassing all prior methods including those using multi-view 2D inputs.

JOPP-3D: Joint Open Vocabulary Semantic Segmentation on Point Clouds and Panoramas

Semantic segmentation across visual modalities such as 3D point clouds and panoramic images remains a challenging task, primarily due to the scarcity of annotated data and the limited adaptability of fixed-label models. In this paper, we present JOPP-3D, an open-vocabulary segmentation framework that jointly leverages panoramic and point cloud data to enable language-driven scene understanding. We convert RGB-D panoramic images into their corresponding wide field-of-view tangential perspectives and 3D point clouds, then use these modalities to extract and align foundational vision-language features. This allows natural language querying to generate semantic masks on both input modalities. Experimental evaluation on the Stanford-2D-3D-s and ToF-360 datasets demonstrates the capability of JOPP-3D to produce coherent and semantically meaningful segmentations across panoramic and 3D domains. Our proposed method achieves a significant improvement compared to the SOTA in open and closed vocabulary 2D and 3D semantic segmentation.

Ov3R: Open-Vocabulary Semantic 3D Reconstruction from RGB Videos

We present Ov3R, a novel framework for open-vocabulary semantic 3D reconstruction from RGB video streams, designed to advance Spatial AI. The system features two key components: CLIP3R, a CLIP-informed 3D reconstruction module that predicts dense point maps from overlapping clips while embedding object-level semantics; and 2D-3D OVS, a 2D-3D open-vocabulary semantic module that lifts 2D features into 3D by learning fused descriptors integrating spatial, geometric, and semantic cues. Unlike prior methods, Ov3R incorporates CLIP semantics directly into the reconstruction process, enabling globally consistent geometry and fine-grained semantic alignment. Our framework achieves state-of-the-art performance in both dense 3D reconstruction and open-vocabulary 3D segmentation, marking a step forward toward real-time, semantics-aware Spatial AI.

OV-MAP: Open-Vocabulary Zero-Shot 3D Instance Segmentation Map for Robots

We introduce OV-MAP, a novel approach to open-world 3D mapping for mobile robots by integrating open-features into 3D maps to enhance object recognition capabilities. A significant challenge arises when overlapping features from adjacent voxels reduce instance-level precision, as features spill over voxel boundaries, blending neighboring regions together. Our method overcomes this by employing a class-agnostic segmentation model to project 2D masks into 3D space, combined with a supplemented depth image created by merging raw and synthetic depth from point clouds. This approach, along with a 3D mask voting mechanism, enables accurate zero-shot 3D instance segmentation without relying on 3D supervised segmentation models. We assess the effectiveness of our method through comprehensive experiments on public datasets such as ScanNet200 and Replica, demonstrating superior zero-shot performance, robustness, and adaptability across diverse environments. Additionally, we conducted real-world experiments to demonstrate our method's adaptability and robustness when applied to diverse real-world environments.
