Oscillatory Neural Networks
Overview
Oscillatory neural networks use rhythmic activity, phase relationships, and synchronization to represent and process information. Common approaches build on Kuramoto or Winfree oscillator dynamics, integrate oscillations into spiking and recurrent models, or use phase-based learning rules and predictive learning. Applications include sequence and text processing, graph learning, associative memory, constrained problems such as Sudoku, and neuromorphic or soft-robot control. Results span theory, simulations, hardware prototypes, and standard benchmarks, but it remains unclear how reliably these methods scale to deep systems and varied tasks, and when their added dynamics outperform simpler models.
