Abstract

This paper presents EBuddy, a voice-guided workflow orchestrator for natural human-machine collaboration in industrial environments. EBuddy targets a recurrent bottleneck in tool-intensive workflows: expert know-how is effective but difficult to scale, and execution quality degrades when procedures are reconstructed ad hoc across operators and sessions. EBuddy operationalizes expert practice as a finite state machine (FSM) driven application that provides an interpretable decision frame at runtime (current state and admissible actions), so that spoken requests are interpreted within state-grounded constraints, while the system executes and monitors the corresponding tool interactions. Through modular workflow artifacts, EBuddy coordinates heterogeneous resources, including GUI-driven software and a collaborative robot, leveraging fully voice-based interaction through automatic speech recognition and intent understanding. An industrial pilot on impeller blade inspection and repair preparation for directed energy deposition (DED), realized by human-robot collaboration, shows substantial reductions in end-to-end process duration across onboarding, 3D scanning and processing, and repair program generation, while preserving repeatability and low operator burden.

FactoryBench: Evaluating Industrial Machine Understanding

We introduce FactoryBench, a benchmark for evaluating time-series models and LLMs on machine understanding over industrial robotic telemetry. Q&A pairs are organized along four causal levels (state, intervention, counterfactual, decision) instantiating Pearl's ladder of causation, and span five answer formats: four structured formats are scored deterministically and free-form answers are scored by an LLM-as-judge voting protocol. We propose a scalable Q&A generation framework built around structured question templates, present FactoryWave (a dense, multitask, multivariate sensor dataset collected from a UR3 cobot and a KUKA KR10 industrial arm), and construct FactoryBench as a large-scale benchmark of over 70k Q&A items grounded in roughly 15k normalized episodes from FactoryWave, AURSAD, and voraus-AD. Zero-shot evaluation of six frontier LLMs shows that no model exceeds 50% on structured levels or 18% on decision-making, revealing a wide gap between current models and operational machine understanding.

Chat2Workflow: A Benchmark for Generating Executable Visual Workflows with Natural Language

At present, executable visual workflows have emerged as a mainstream paradigm in real-world industrial deployments, offering strong reliability and controllability. However, in current practice, such workflows are almost entirely constructed through manual engineering: developers must carefully design workflows, write prompts for each step, and repeatedly revise the logic as requirements evolve -- making development costly, time-consuming, and error-prone. To study whether large language models can automate this multi-round interaction process, we introduce Chat2Workflow, a benchmark for generating executable visual workflows directly from natural language, and propose a robust agentic baseline to improve performance. The benchmark is built from a large collection of real-world business workflows, with each instance designed so that the generated workflow can be transformed and directly deployed to practical workflow platforms such as Dify and Coze. Experimental results show that while state-of-the-art language models can often capture high-level intent, they struggle to generate correct, stable, and executable workflows, especially given complex and evolving requirements. Although our agentic baseline yields up to 6.05% resolve rate gains, the remaining real-world gap positions Chat2Workflow as a foundation for advancing industrial-grade automation. APEX-Voice: Can Voice Agents Complete Professional Workflows Through Full-Duplex Interaction

Full-duplex voice agents can now listen, speak, use tools, and act during spoken interactions, but fluent dialogue does not guarantee correct completion of delegated professional workflows. We introduce APEX-Voice, a benchmark of 120 interactive professional workflows spanning ten work archetypes such as form completion, corporate negotiation, coordination, consulting, and interviewing. Each workflow executes in a stateful Voice Workbench environment with task-specific knowledge, typed tools, gold-annotated final work artifact, authorization constraints, and a user simulation policy backed by validated, pre-compiled speech realizations. We evaluate both artifact field accuracy and end-to-end workflow success, which requires the correct terminal state, valid process, completed actions, and a valid final artifact. Across five frontier real-time voice agents-GPT-Live-1, Gemini-3.8-Live, Grok-Voice-Think-2.0, Step-Audio3, and GPT-realtime-2.1, none exceeds 25% Pass@1, and the best Reliable@3 is only 10.8%. Moreover, stateful coordination is the dominant failure point across systems, while success decreases further on workflows requiring greater knowledge retrieval and mid-speech corrections. Overall, APEX-Voice is the first benchmark for evaluating whether voice agents can translate conversational competence into dependable professional work.
