Abstract

Three-dimensional medical image data and computer-aided decision making, particularly using deep learning, are becoming increasingly important in the medical field. To aid in these developments we introduce PR3DICTR: Platform for Research in 3D Image Classification and sTandardised tRaining. Built using community-standard distributions (PyTorch and MONAI), PR3DICTR provides an open-access, flexible and convenient framework for prediction model development, with an explicit focus on classification using three-dimensional medical image data. By combining modular design principles and standardization, it aims to alleviate developmental burden whilst retaining adjustability. It provides users with a wealth of pre-established functionality, for instance in model architecture design options, hyper-parameter solutions and training methodologies, but still gives users the opportunity and freedom to ``plug in'' their own solutions or modules. PR3DICTR can be applied to any binary or event-based three-dimensional classification task and can work with as little as two lines of code.

MIP Candy: A Modular PyTorch Framework for Medical Image Processing

Medical image processing demands specialized software that handles high-dimensional volumetric data, heterogeneous file formats, and domain-specific training procedures. Existing frameworks either provide low-level components that require substantial integration effort or impose rigid, monolithic pipelines that resist modification. We present MIP Candy (MIPCandy), a freely available, PyTorch-based framework designed specifically for medical image processing. MIPCandy provides a complete, modular pipeline spanning data loading, training, inference, and evaluation, allowing researchers to obtain a fully functional process workflow by implementing a single method, \texttt{build_network}, while retaining fine-grained control over every component. Central to the design is LayerT\texttt{LayerT}, a deferred configuration mechanism that enables runtime substitution of convolution, normalization, and activation modules without subclassing. The framework further offers built-in kk-fold cross-validation, dataset inspection with automatic region-of-interest detection, deep supervision, exponential moving average, multi-frontend experiment tracking (Weights & Biases, Notion, MLflow), training state recovery, and validation score prediction via quotient regression. An extensible bundle ecosystem provides pre-built model implementations that follow a consistent trainer--predictor pattern and integrate with the core framework without modification. MIPCandy is open-source under the Apache-2.0 license and requires Python~3.12 or later. Source code and documentation are available at https://github.com/ProjectNeura/MIPCandy.

MultiMedVision: Multi-Modal Medical Vision Framework

Multi-modal medical imaging enables comprehensive diagnostics, yet current foundation models process 2D (e.g. X-ray) and 3D (e.g. CT) data with separate, dimensionality-specific architectures. We present MultiMedVision, a unified framework for joint 2D/3D representation learning built on a Sparse Vision Transformer. Our model uses 3D Rotary Positional Embeddings and variable-length sequence packing to process mixed-modality batches natively within a shared latent space, without modality-specific adapters or treating 3D volumes as 2D slice sequences. Trained with a self-supervised objective on chest X-rays (MIMIC-CXR) and CT scans (CT-RATE), and using a single shared encoder with 5x less data, MultiMedVision achieves competitive performance on both 2D benchmarks (Macro AUROC 0.82 on MIMIC, 0.84 on CheXpert) and 3D tasks (0.85 on CT-RATE). Analysis of the learned representations reveals coexisting modality-specific and shared feature subspaces, demonstrating that unified cross-dimensional representation learning is feasible without sacrificing modality-specific performance.

LightMedSeg: Lightweight 3D Medical Image Segmentation with Learned Spatial Anchors

Accurate and efficient 3D medical image segmentation is essential for clinical AI, where models must remain reliable under stringent memory, latency, and data availability constraints. Transformer-based methods achieve strong accuracy but suffer from excessive parameters, high FLOPs, and limited generalization. We propose LightMedSeg, a modular UNet-style segmentation architecture that integrates anatomical priors with adaptive context modeling. Anchor-conditioned FiLM modulation enables anatomy-aware feature calibration, while a local structural prior module and texture-aware routing dynamically allocate representational capacity to boundary-rich regions. Computational redundancy is minimized through ghost and depthwise convolutions, and multi-scale features are adaptively fused via a learned skip router with anchor-relative spatial position bias. Despite requiring only 0.48M parameters and 14.64~GFLOPs, LightMedSeg achieves segmentation accuracy within a few Dice points of heavy transformer baselines. Therefore, LightMedSeg is a deployable and data-efficient solution for 3D medical image segmentation. Code will be released publicly upon acceptance.
