Abstract

While foundation models have significantly advanced human recognition across diverse modalities, they predominantly rely on static, geometric feature extraction. This approach fundamentally diverges from human perception. Consequently, current models often suffer from "semantic blindness," overfitting to transient noise while failing to leverage invariant soft biometrics, and struggle to capture temporal motion signatures. To bridge this gap, we propose SapiensID 2.0, a human recognition framework enriched with both semantic and temporal awareness. To overcome the lack of soft-biometric annotations, we transfer zero-shot semantic knowledge from Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) into a discriminative embedding space. We resolve the dimensional mismatch between these spaces using Invariant Trait Alignment (ITA) to distill core persistent traits, and Transient Noise Disentanglement (TND) to decouple artifacts like clothing. Furthermore, we design a Kinematic Semantic Attention Head (K-SAH) that extends spatial attention across temporal windows. By tracking semantic patches over time, K-SAH captures rich kinematic signatures without requiring large-scale video datasets. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SapiensID 2.0 achieves state-of-the-art performance across image- and video-based person re-identification and gait recognition, while maintaining robust face recognition capabilities.

MHRGait: Gait Recognition from Momentum Human Rig Pose

Gait recognition is shaped by its input representation. Silhouettes encode projected body shape, skeletons encode sparse joint coordinates, and 3D meshes encode dense surface geometry. In each case, identity-bearing articulation is observed through geometric carriers that also vary with clothing, skeletal scale, or body shape. We investigate whether gait can instead be recognized from compact articulated controls. We introduce Momentum Human Rig (MHR) pose as a gait representation, describing each frame using 184 semantically organized body and hand parameters estimated from monocular video. MHRGait groups these heterogeneous controls by anatomy, models their intra-frame coordination and temporal evolution, and produces compact body and hand descriptors. We further introduce MHRGait++, which combines MHR pose with silhouettes through modality-balanced distance fusion, preventing descriptor count from determining modality importance. Experiments on four benchmarks show that MHRGait attains the best overall performance among compared model-based methods on CCPG and SUSTech1K and transfers effectively across datasets, while its recognition network requires only 2.76M parameters and 0.69 GFLOPs for a 30-frame input. MHRGait++ consistently improves silhouette recognizers with a favorable accuracy-efficiency trade-off. These results establish rig-space articulation as an effective standalone gait representation and a complementary cue to projected body shape. Beyond Visual Cues: Semantic-Driven Token Filtering and Expert Routing for Anytime Person ReID

Any-Time Person Re-identification (AT-ReID) necessitates the robust retrieval of target individuals under arbitrary conditions, encompassing both modality shifts (daytime and nighttime) and extensive clothing-change scenarios, ranging from short-term to long-term intervals. However, existing methods are highly relying on pure visual features, which are prone to change due to environmental and time factors, resulting in significantly performance deterioration under scenarios involving illumination caused modality shifts or cloth-change. In this paper, we propose Semantic-driven Token Filtering and Expert Routing (STFER), a novel framework that leverages the ability of Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) to generate identity consistency text, which provides identity-discriminative features that are robust to both clothing variations and cross-modality shifts between RGB and IR. Specifically, we employ instructions to guide the LVLM in generating identity-intrinsic semantic text that captures biometric constants for the semantic model driven. The text token is further used for Semantic-driven Visual Token Filtering (SVTF), which enhances informative visual regions and suppresses redundant background noise. Meanwhile, the text token is also used for Semantic-driven Expert Routing (SER), which integrates the semantic text into expert routing, resulting in more robust multi-scenario gating. Extensive experiments on the Any-Time ReID dataset (AT-USTC) demonstrate that our model achieves state-of-the-art results. Moreover, the model trained on AT-USTC was evaluated across 5 widely-used ReID benchmarks demonstrating superior generalization capabilities with highly competitive results. Our code will be available soon.

Paths: Prompt-aware Spatio-temporal Transformer with Hierarchical Multi-modal Fusion for RGB-Event Video Person Re-Identification

RGB-Event Video Person Re-Identification (RE-VReID) aims to retrieve specific person across non-overlapping cameras with complementary RGB videos and event streams. However, existing methods often decouple spatial and temporal modeling, which limits their interaction. In addition, global-level RGB-Event fusion fails to fully exploit fine-grained discriminative cues. To address these issues, we propose Paths, a unified framework with spatio-temporal modeling and hierarchical multi-modal fusion for RE-VReID. Specifically, we first design a Memory-Augmented Backbone (MAB) to maintain modality-specific identity prototypes for stable intra-modal representation learning. Then, we propose a Prompt-aware Spatio-temporal Transformer (PST) to jointly model spatial and temporal cues within a unified Transformer. Finally, we introduce a Hierarchical Multi-modal Fusion (HMF) to integrate RGB and event features at global and local levels. With these modules, our framework can learn robust and discriminative representations for RE-VReID. Extensive experiments on three public RE-VReID benchmarks including EvReID, MARS and iLIDS-VID, demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.
