DSA: Evidence-Aware LLM-Agent Orchestration for Multi-Market Stock Research

Authors: Linsen Zhu, Yi Shi

Abstract

Large language models can summarize financial information, but an operational stock-research system must first assemble heterogeneous evidence, expose unavailable data and model capabilities, and control how generated opinions affect a final report. We present DSA, an evidence-aware orchestration framework for multi-market stock research with large language model (LLM) agents. DSA organizes the workflow into evidence acquisition, structured context construction, model-routed analysis, optional role and Strategy Skill reasoning, and report generation with selected context and diagnostics. A default report profile and an optional agentic profile share evidence and model-routing services but use profile-specific output validation and risk safeguards. In the agentic profile, core role outputs are processed by role-specific parsers, whereas Strategy Skill opinions undergo an additional signal-eligibility partition before synthesis; disagreement is supplied explicitly to the decision agent, followed by a conservative risk override. The reference implementation includes six regional market paths, fifteen bundled Strategy Skills, hosted and local model routes, and multiple execution and delivery surfaces. At a frozen software snapshot, a selected manifest of 1,457 portable offline backend contract tests passed; 596 cases were retrospectively mapped to six contract families central to the reported LLM-agent architecture. This evidence establishes implementation conformance for the tested software contracts, not superior report quality, forecasting accuracy, or investment returns.

Signal or Noise in Multi-Agent LLM-based Stock Recommendations?

We present the first portfolio-level validation of MarketSenseAI, a deployed multi-agent LLM equity system. All signals are generated live at each observation date, eliminating look-ahead bias. The system routes four specialist agents (News, Fundamentals, Dynamics, and Macro) through a synthesis agent that issues a monthly equity thesis and recommendation for each stock in its coverage universe, and we ask two questions: do its buy recommendations add value over both passive benchmarks and random selection, and what does the internal agent structure reveal about the source of the edge? On the S&P 500 cohort (19 months) the strong-buy equal-weight portfolio earns +2.18%/month against a passive equal-weight benchmark of +1.15% (approximating RSP), a +25.2% compound excess, and ranks at the 99.7th percentile of 10,000 Monte Carlo portfolios (p=0.003). The S&P 100 cohort (35 months) delivers a +30.5% compound excess over EQWL with consistent direction but formal significance not reached, limited by the small average selection of ~10 stocks per month. Non-negative least-squares projection of thesis embeddings onto agent embeddings reveals an adaptive-integration mechanism. Agent contributions rotate with market regime (Fundamentals leads on S&P 500, Macro on S&P 100, Dynamics acts as an episodic momentum signal) and this agent rotation moves in lockstep with both the sector composition of strong-buy selections and identifiable macro-calendar events, three independent views of the same underlying adaptation. The recommendation's cross-sectional Information Coefficient is statistically significant on S&P 500 (ICIR=+0.489, p=0.024). These results suggest that multi-agent LLM equity systems can identify sources of alpha beyond what classical factor models capture, and that the buy signal functions as an effective universe-filter that can sit upstream of any portfolio-construction process.

DOVA: Deliberation-First Multi-Agent Orchestration for Autonomous Research Automation

Large language model (LLM) agents have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in tool use, reasoning, and code generation, yet single-agent systems exhibit fundamental limitations when confronted with complex research tasks demanding multi-source synthesis, adversarial verification, and personalized delivery. We present DOVA (Deep Orchestrated Versatile Agent), a multi-agent platform introducing three key innovations: (1) deliberation-first orchestration, where explicit meta-reasoning precedes tool invocation, informed by a persistent user model and entity-aware conversation context; (2) hybrid collaborative reasoning, a composable three-phase pipeline unifying ensemble diversity, blackboard transparency, and iterative refinement; and (3) adaptive multi-tiered thinking, a six-level token-budget allocation scheme that reduces inference cost by 40-60% on simple tasks while preserving deep reasoning capacity. We formalize the core algorithms, present an architectural ablation study across seven system configurations, and analyze the contribution of each component to answer confidence, source coverage, and token efficiency.

Quant-Arena: Benchmarking LLM Agents for Quantitative Trading Research

Quantitative research is an iterative loop: a researcher proposes a market hypothesis, implements it as an executable signal, tests it on historical data, and decides what to keep. Existing benchmarks score formulas, code, or individual trading decisions, leaving open whether large language models (LLMs) can complete this loop and produce strategies that work beyond the research period. We introduce Quant-Arena, a benchmark and public leaderboard for end-to-end quantitative research on real A-share market data. A model constructs features and stock-scoring code, receives feedback only on 2022--2023, and freezes one strategy for assessment on the sealed year 2024. A cash-account evaluator applies trading constraints and costs, including market impact estimated from a simulated order book. Scores are dominated by realized excess return and complemented by signal quality and the diversity of features used by the strategy. We evaluate nine frontier models, among which GPT-6 Astra scores highest; yet no model beats the equal-weight market in 2024. Quant-Arena is open to submissions from any model or agent harness.
