From Where to How: Continuous 4D Interaction Forecasting from Egocentric Video

Abstract

Egocentric 4D interaction forecasting aims to anticipate both where future interactions will occur in 3D and how the human body will move to realize them, providing an important capability for assistive robotics and human-computer interaction. Existing methods struggle to translate semantic understanding into precise continuous 3D localization and to balance motion diversity with structural consistency in pose forecasting. More fundamentally, these tasks are often modeled separately, leaving the continuous geometric and temporal correspondence between interaction locations and body motion insufficiently captured. To address these challenges, we introduce Coherent4D, a large-scale egocentric dataset for continuous 4D interaction forecasting, comprising approximately 233K samples across three domains. Each sample pairs a sequence of future 3D interaction locations with corresponding full-body poses, aligned in time and expressed in a shared coordinate system. We also provide evaluation metrics in continuous space. Building on this formulation, we propose HIGFlow, a Hand Interaction Guided Residual Flow framework that models forecasting as a cascaded where-to-how process. HIGFlow first forecasts continuous future interaction locations by combining semantic grounding with short-horizon visual dynamics, and then uses the predicted location sequence to condition a deterministic motion anchor and residual Flow Matching for diverse yet structurally consistent full-body motion forecasting. Extensive experiments across all three domains demonstrate consistent improvements over representative baselines on both location and pose forecasting, while ablations validate the contributions of the proposed components. MotionForesight: Re-purposing Video Models for Future 3D Scene-Flow Prediction

Humans can infer how objects are likely to move from passive observation: a cup may be lifted, a drawer may slide, and a lid may rotate shut. Such predictions expose the physical consequences of interaction needed to act in the real world. We study how to learn this anticipation from ordinary monocular videos of human-object interaction. Given a short observed video context, MotionForesight predicts future 3D trajectories for points on the manipulated object. This casts interaction prediction as object-centered 3D motion forecasting without any assumptions on the object properties. Our key insight is that video prediction models already encode rich priors about how objects move during human interactions. We redirect these priors from pixel prediction toward future 3D scene flow. We start from a dense 3D tracker built on a pretrained video model, generate pseudo-ground-truth tracks from complete clips, and train the forecaster using only the observed frames. We replace future RGB and geometry with learned mask latents and train a lightweight adapter to turn the retrospective tracking representation into a forward predictor, while freezing the large video and tracking components. Using just 40k human videos and no auxiliary inputs such as language, MotionForesight generalizes across diverse out-of-distribution objects, environments, viewpoints, and interactions. It also outperforms substantially larger models that use over a million training videos. These results show that we can efficiently re-purpose video priors into explicit geometric forecasts for embodied intelligence. https://motionforesight.github.io/

Ego-Human Motion Prediction with 3D-Aware LLM

Anticipating human motion from an egocentric perspective is fundamental for proactive assistance in AR/VR, human-robot collaboration, and embodied AI. While recent works incorporate language as a semantic prior to reduce the ill-posed nature of egocentric forecasting, they largely neglect the 3D spatial and semantic context that governs how motion unfolds, and treat pose and language prediction as separate inference streams. We introduce Ego3DLM, built on two core principles: accurate motion forecasting requires explicit spatial and semantic understanding of the 3D environment, and pose and language must be predicted holistically in a single pass, since motion is inherently tied to the semantic interpretation of actions being performed. Given three-point tracking, 3D scene features, and egocentric video, Ego3DLM simultaneously decodes past pose, future pose, past narration, and future narration in a single autoregressive pass, grounding predicted poses and descriptions in one another to enforce cross-modal and temporal consistency. We adopt a three-stage training scheme: (1) spatial-semantic scene awareness pretraining; (2) holistic instruction tuning over all four outputs in a single pass; and (3) GRPO-based reinforcement finetuning with intra- and inter-modal rewards that directly optimize pose-language fidelity. Experiments on the Nymeria benchmark demonstrate that Ego3DLM achieves state-of-the-art performance across future motion prediction, past motion tracking, and motion description, showing that 3D scene grounding and holistic cross-modal prediction yield physically plausible and semantically coherent motion forecasts. EggHand: A Multimodal Foundation Model for Egocentric Hand Pose Forecasting

Forecasting future 3D hand pose sequences from egocentric video is essential for understanding human intention and enabling embodied applications such as AR/VR assistance and human-robot interaction. However, this task remains a highly challenging problem because egocentric hand motion is driven by complex human intent, exhibits highly dexterous articulations, and is observed under drastic viewpoint shifts induced by ego-motion. In this work, we introduce EggHand, a foundation-model-based framework for egocentric hand pose forecasting that unifies multimodal semantic reasoning with dynamic motion modeling. Our approach couples an action decoder from a Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model, which captures the structured temporal dynamics of hand motion, with an egocentric video-text encoder that provides viewpoint-aware contextual information learned from large-scale first-person video. Together, these components overcome the brittleness of generic visual encoders under ego-motion and enable joint reasoning over motion, context, and high-level intent-without relying on body pose or external tracking. Experiments on the EgoExo4D dataset show that EggHand sets a new state of the art in forecasting accuracy, remains robust under severe ego-motion, and further enables controllable prediction via language-based task prompts.
