MAVP: Map-Aware Visuomotor Policies for Mobile Manipulation

Authors: Jinhe TangRuixiao DaiWeiming Zhi

Abstract

Successful mobile manipulation requires coordinated base and arm motion while maintaining accurate spatial positioning. However, demonstration-trained policies can struggle to realise the intended base motion reliably, leading to spatial misalignment and subsequent manipulation failures. We present MAVP (Map-Aware Visuomotor Policies), a framework that improves execution reliability by predicting explicit base-pose targets and tracking them using localisation feedback. MAVP reconstructs a static map from teleoperated demonstrations and expresses demonstrated base trajectories in a shared map frame, providing consistent spatial supervision across demonstrations. At execution time, the policy receives RGB observations, joint states, and the robot's current map-frame base pose, and jointly predicts target base poses, arm actions, and gripper actions. A low-level controller tracks the predicted base targets using feedforward motion and pose error feedback, enabling correction of execution deviations. We additionally use pose-noise augmentation during training to improve robustness to errors in the policy's pose input. Across six real-world manipulation tasks and three policy families, MAVP achieves higher task success rates than unanchored velocity control in all tasks. DreamTrajectory: Trajectory-Guided Action Generation with World Model Alignment for Mobile Manipulation

Mobile manipulation requires a robot to coordinate base and arm motion under continuously changing viewpoints and contact conditions, within an action space far larger than that of fixed-base manipulation. Existing Vision-Language-Action (VLA) policies are limited in two respects. (i)They map observations directly to whole-body action chunks, searching this large action space without an explicit task-space motion plan, which makes coordinated base--arm prediction imprecise. (ii)They execute the predicted chunk open-loop, without checking whether the actions can realize the motion the policy intended, so control errors and unmodeled contacts accumulate into a gap between planned and realized motion. We present DreamTrajectory, a trajectory-guided framework for language-conditioned mobile manipulation that introduces one component for each limitation. Addressing(i), DreamTrajectory jointly predicts an intention-level end-effector trajectory and a whole-body action chunk in a single action expert, so that the trajectory explicitly guides base--arm action generation instead of remaining implicit. Addressing(ii), a lightweight trajectory world model predicts the trajectory that a candidate action chunk would induce, and a test-time search--predict--score procedure selects the candidate best aligned with the planned trajectory. On MS-HAB, trajectory guidance raises average success from 32.3% to 47.5% and test-time refinement further to 54.8%, with the largest gains on contact-rich articulated-object tasks. On three real-world mobile manipulation tasks, the corresponding average success rates are 63.3%, 81.7%, and 90.0%.

MoPA: Coordinated Mobile Manipulation via Subsystem-Specific Perception Alignment

Mobile manipulation requires perceptual evidence at different spatial scales for base motion and arm control, while the two action modalities remain kinematically coupled. Existing policies often employ specialized action generation for different subsystems but condition heterogeneous action branches on a shared perceptual representation, leaving subsystem-specific perception-action correspondence implicit. We present MoPA, a framework that aligns perceptual conditioning with mobility and manipulation while preserving coordination at the action level. Dual Perceptual Streams employ two mutually masked query banks to extract separate perceptual representations from a shared vision-language context. Perception2Action Adaptation jointly updates each query bank and its corresponding action stream at every layer of a structured Mixture-of-Transformers decoder, while enabling information exchange between the two action streams. Coupled conditional flow matching learns a joint vector field for coordinated generation of both action chunks. On the ManiSkill-HAB benchmark, MoPA achieves state-of-the-art performance across all three task suites. Across four real-world tasks, MoPA achieves a mean full-task success rate of 76.3%, outperforming the best baseline by 12.5 percentage points. Ablation studies and further analyses validate the effectiveness of the proposed design. Website is available at: https://mopa-policy.github.io/.

DockAnywhere: Data-Efficient Visuomotor Policy Learning for Mobile Manipulation via Novel Demonstration Generation

Mobile manipulation is a fundamental capability that enables robots to interact in expansive environments such as homes and factories. Most existing approaches follow a two-stage paradigm, where the robot first navigates to a docking point and then performs fixed-base manipulation using powerful visuomotor policies. However, real-world mobile manipulation often suffers from the view generalization problem due to shifts of docking points. To address this issue, we propose a novel low-cost demonstration generation framework named DockAnywhere, which improves viewpoint generalization under docking variability by lifting a single demonstration to diverse feasible docking configurations. Specifically, DockAnywhere lifts a trajectory to any feasible docking points by decoupling docking-dependent base motions from contact-rich manipulation skills that remain invariant across viewpoints. Feasible docking proposals are sampled under feasibility constraints, and corresponding trajectories are generated via structure-preserving augmentation. Visual observations are synthesized in 3D space by representing the robot and objects as point clouds and applying point-level spatial editing to ensure the consistency of observation and action across viewpoints. Extensive experiments on ManiSkill and real-world platforms demonstrate that DockAnywhere substantially improves policy success rates and easily generalizes to novel viewpoints from unseen docking points during training, significantly enhancing the generalization capability of mobile manipulation policy in real-world deployment.
