Abstract

Spatial audio is central to immersive 360∘^\circ media, yet existing audio-visual spatialization renders the scene as a whole, leaving no control over an individual source. We introduce Audio-Visual Query-conditioned Target Sound Spatialization (AV-QTSS): given a monaural multi-source mixture, a 360∘^\circ video and a class query from the 13-class DCASE sound-event ontology, it generates the first-order Ambisonics (FOA) signal of the queried source alone. The omnidirectional mixture contains no explicit spatial cues, so direction has to be inferred from the video, where several objects may sound at once. We propose a query-conditioned dense binding localizer that predicts a spherical probability map over the whole scene, coupled to the renderer so both are optimized jointly. Experiments with one to four concurrent sources show improved localization and spatial accuracy relative to established methods and ablated variants, and the localizer transfers to real 360∘^\circ recordings after adaptation.

Spatio-Temporal Audio Language Modeling for Dynamic Sound Sources

Sound events have semantic identities, locations, and trajectories, yet existing audio-language models typically encode clips as global event content. Conversely, sound event localization models track source directions over time but offer limited semantic coverage for language reasoning. To bridge this gap, we introduce ST-AudioQA, a spatio-temporal audio QA dataset and benchmark built from first-order ambisonic (FOA) renderings of static and moving sound sources. Each scene provides source identity, activity, direction, distance, and motion metadata, enabling dense trajectory supervision and QA about what is sounding, where it is, how it moves, and how sources relate. We further introduce ST-Audio Encoder, which jointly learns event semantics and time-resolved source trajectories, and ST-AudioLM, which exposes these audio tokens to an LLM for spatio-temporal audio QA. Experiments show that this representation improves the balance between semantic preservation and localization and yields stronger reasoning than static spatial and localization-oriented baselines. Beyond the controlled benchmark, ST-AudioLM shows zero-shot transfer to real recordings, with further gains after light adaptation. Project page: https://st-audiolm.github.io/.

DynFOA: Generating First-Order Ambisonics with Conditional Diffusion for Dynamic and Acoustically Complex 360-Degree Videos

Spatial audio is crucial for immersive 360-degree video experiences, yet most 360-degree videos lack it due to the difficulty of capturing spatial audio during recording. Automatically generating spatial audio such as first-order ambisonics (FOA) from video therefore remains an important but challenging problem. In complex scenes, sound perception depends not only on sound source locations but also on scene geometry, materials, and dynamic interactions with the environment. However, existing approaches only rely on visual cues and fail to model dynamic sources and acoustic effects such as occlusion, reflections, and reverberation. To address these challenges, we propose DynFOA, a generative framework that synthesizes FOA from 360-degree videos by integrating dynamic scene reconstruction with conditional diffusion modeling. DynFOA analyzes the input video to detect and localize dynamic sound sources, estimate depth and semantics, and reconstruct scene geometry and materials using 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS). The reconstructed scene representation provides physically grounded features that capture acoustic interactions between sources, environment, and listener viewpoint. Conditioned on these features, a diffusion model generates spatial audio consistent with the scene dynamics and acoustic context. We introduce M2G-360, a dataset of 600 real-world clips divided into MoveSources, Multi-Source, and Geometry subsets for evaluating robustness under diverse conditions. Experiments show that DynFOA consistently outperforms existing methods in spatial accuracy, acoustic fidelity, distribution matching, and perceived immersive experience.

SonicWorld: Source-Centric Latent Dynamics for Spatial Audio Reasoning

Dynamic spatial audio reasoning requires a model to associate changing acoustic observations with the correct source and recover its spatial state at a queried time or interval, a challenge intensified by overlapping speech and source motion. To study this problem, we introduce Sonic-Bench, comprising 2.8K first-order Ambisonics clips and 28.8K target-specific question-answer pairs across 480 simulated indoor scenes. The benchmark covers localization, distance estimation, and motion reasoning in single- and dual-source settings. We further propose SonicWorld, which integrates physical, learned acoustic, and semantic features into persistent source states through learned transitions and recurrent updates, and projects them into an Omni LLM for spatial reasoning. Compared with Spatial-Omni on the Sonic-Bench test split, SonicWorld improves direction accuracy from 31.98% to 34.69% and reduces azimuth error from 57.22° to 48.01°. In zero-shot transfer to Spatial LibriSpeech, SonicWorld retains strong localization performance, achieving 73.98% direction accuracy and 19.29° azimuth error, compared with 27.14% and 70.74° for Spatial-Omni.
