BRDF Model
A bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) model mathematically describes how light interacts with a surface, crucial for realistic rendering in computer graphics and remote sensing. Current research focuses on improving BRDF estimation and application through neural networks, often incorporating techniques like neural radiance fields and point-based rendering for efficiency and accuracy, as well as integrating polarization cues for enhanced material characterization. These advancements are impacting diverse fields, enabling more accurate 3D scene reconstruction, improved remote sensing data analysis (e.g., for Earth observation), and more realistic virtual and augmented reality experiences.
