Endangered language research focuses on preserving and revitalizing languages facing extinction through technological and linguistic approaches. Current efforts leverage artificial intelligence, particularly large language models (LLMs), to create resources like machine translation tools, spell-checkers, and lexical databases, often adapting existing models with smaller datasets specific to endangered languages. This work emphasizes ethical considerations, community engagement, and the crucial role of linguistic expertise in developing culturally sensitive and practically useful technologies for language preservation and revitalization.
