Lexical Resource
Lexical resources, encompassing dictionaries, thesauri, and other structured representations of word meaning, are crucial for natural language processing (NLP). Current research focuses on improving the creation and utilization of these resources, particularly for low-resource languages, by developing unsupervised methods like word sense induction and leveraging multilingual language models. This involves addressing challenges such as disambiguating word senses (including proper nouns), modeling complex semantic relationships (like metaphor and antonymy), and enriching resources with typological information to capture linguistic diversity. Improved lexical resources directly enhance the performance of various NLP tasks and broaden the scope of computational linguistics research across diverse languages.
