Cardiac MRI
MRI: Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Overview
Cardiac MRI research develops methods to acquire and analyze images of the heart, including cine scans of its motion, late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) scans of tissue and scar, and 4D flow measurements of blood. Common approaches include physics-informed and unrolled networks for accelerated reconstruction, U-Nets and transformers for segmentation, and registration or mesh models for tracking motion and recovering 3D anatomy from sparse scans. Self-supervised foundation models and generative methods are increasingly used to make better use of unlabeled or limited data, with evaluation on benchmarks such as ACDC and M&Ms as well as multi-center clinical cohorts. A central challenge is ensuring that image quality, measurements, and disease predictions remain reliable across scanners, hospitals, and patient groups; scar segmentation and clinical validation remain particularly difficult.
