Persona Consistency
Overview
Persona consistency concerns whether an AI agent’s stated identity, traits, and behavior remain coherent across tasks, interlocutors, and long-running conversations. Researchers use persona profiles and memory systems, and train agents with supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, or self-distillation to support consistent role-playing and personalized dialogue. Evaluations include multi-turn contradiction probes, character-dialogue benchmarks, and longitudinal tests of memory, drift, and behavior under changing context. A central challenge is balancing stable identity with appropriate adaptation and evolution: consistency scores alone do not establish accurate human simulation, sound judgments, or reliable long-term continuity.
