Quantum Convolutional Neural Networks
Also known as QCNN
Overview
Quantum convolutional neural networks adapt the local filters and pooling of classical CNNs to quantum circuits, encoding data into qubits and learning with parameterized quantum gates. Common approaches include hybrid quantum-classical models, circuit-based convolution and pooling, and symmetry-aware layers; they are studied for image and time-series classification as well as scientific modeling. Current comparisons show that QCNNs can match classical models with fewer parameters in some settings, but classical models often achieve higher accuracy or run faster. Trainability, noise, hardware scale, and fair resource-matched benchmarks remain central challenges.
