Room Acoustics
Overview
Room acoustics examines how a space changes sound, supporting applications such as speech enhancement, source localization, room design, and immersive audio. Researchers model these effects with image-source and wave-based simulations, estimate room impulse responses from recordings, and use signal processing and machine learning to predict acoustic properties or generate responses. Current work combines physical constraints with neural methods to improve realism, handle sparse measurements, and reduce simulation cost. A central challenge is balancing computational efficiency with accurate results that generalize from simulations and controlled benchmarks to real rooms and deployment conditions.
