Abstract

We introduce Phantom Twist, a type of single-propeller UAV designed to achieve low visibility through high-speed spinning and the exploitation of motion blur. We develop a two-stage automated design pipeline that optimizes the placement of functional components including batteries, control PCB, motor-propeller assembly, and counterweights. The pipeline minimizes visibility as measured by a human-aligned perceptual metric (LPIPS) while strictly satisfying inertial and aerodynamic constraints required for stable flight. We validate this approach through fabrication and flight testing of multiple prototypes. These tests confirm that our pipeline produces stable, controllable designs and that the optimized UAV exhibits significantly reduced visual perceptibility compared to conventional quadcopters.

SpatialFly: Implicit 3D Prior-Guided Visual Reparameterization for Continuous UAV Vision-and-Language Navigation

UAVs play an important role in applications such as autonomous exploration, disaster response, and infrastructure inspection. However, UAV VLN in complex 3D environments remains challenging. A key difficulty is the structural representation mismatch between 2D visual perception and the 3D trajectory decision space, which limits spatial reasoning. To this end, we propose SpatialFly, a geometry-guided spatial representation framework for UAV VLN. Operating on RGB observations without explicit 3D reconstruction, SpatialFly introduces a geometry-guided 2D adaptive representation mechanism. Specifically, the geometric prior injection module injects global structural cues into 2D semantic tokens to provide scene-level geometric guidance. The geometry-aware reparameterization module then uses geometry-conditioned cross-modal attention and gated residual fusion to adaptively reparameterize the visual tokens. Experimental results show that SpatialFly consistently outperforms state-of-the-art UAV VLN baselines across both seen and unseen environments, reducing NE by 4.03m and improving SR by 1.27% over the strongest baseline on the unseen Full split. Additional trajectory-level analysis shows that SpatialFly produces trajectories with better path alignment and smoother, more stable motion.

Deliberate Before You Fly: Vision-Guided Spatial Deliberation for UAV See-and-Reach Navigation

UAV see-and-reach navigation requires an aerial agent to approach a language-specified target visible in its initial view and stop reliably near it. Existing methods typically map vision-language representations directly to action outputs without explicitly modeling intermediate fine-grained spatial decisions. This direct mapping causes semantic-control misalignment, leading to inconsistent maneuvers and unreliable termination. To address this issue, we propose DBFly, a vision-language waypoint prediction framework that introduces explicit vision-guided spatial deliberation before waypoint generation. Specifically, DBFly introduces a spatial maneuver decision chain that progressively performs target-direction anchoring, spatial diagnosis, and maneuver decision, enabling high-level maneuver intent to explicitly guide continuous waypoint generation. DBFly further constructs an implicit flight corridor by transforming the initial target-direction prior into a persistent geometric reference and deriving an online corridor state from the UAV's current position, thereby providing soft geometric guidance for spatial diagnosis and maneuver correction. In addition, DBFly develops a terminal-convergence-aware stopping strategy that characterizes terminal states through both target proximity and short-horizon motion convergence, enabling more reliable stopping near the target. Extensive experiments across seen, unseen-object, and unseen-scene test sets demonstrate that DBFly improves the success rate over the SOTA baseline by an average of 25.07 percentage points. ActiveFly-Bench: Aligning Embodied Question Answering with Vision-Language-Action for Aerial Embodied Perception

We introduce ActiveFly-Bench, the first benchmark to bridge cyberspace reasoning and physical-world interaction for UAV embodied perception. The benchmark decomposes active perception into three hierarchical tasks: Aerial Embodied Question Answering (Air-EQA), Observation Behavior Planning (OBP), and Fine-grained Language-guided UAV Control (FLUC), explicitly connecting high-level task understanding, behavior planning, and low-level control. The datasets are collected from both real-world and simulated outdoor environments for training and evaluation. We further develop ActiveFly, a closed-loop UAV agent that integrates visual-language reasoning with fine-grained control, and deploy it on a physical UAV platform. Experiments with representative VLMs and VLA models show that current UAV agents still struggle with behavior planning, viewpoint adjustment, and robust task completion in active perception. These results establish ActiveFly-Bench as a new testbed for embodied aerial intelligence.
